Laila ignored her and continued, “Maris, I never felt jealous of you. I simply looked down on you.”
As a werewolf, loyalty to one’s mate is an instinct carved into the bones. But what about you? You seduced a man who already had a mate and made him betray the oath he swore before the Moon Goddess. You disgust me.
Maris let out a cold snort. “Is that so? Then you were an Alpha wolf. If you disliked me that much, why did you not challenge me directly? I know the answer. You were afraid of hurting me and ruining your image in Holt’s eyes! Back then, you never wanted to dissolve the mate bond with him!”
“No, you are wrong.
“I didn’t go after you back then for one reason–because you weren’t worth it.”

Laila laughed. “Why would I feel hopeless because of a family like that? Being trapped there would have been the real despair.”
“Still pretending? Laila, you’re good at putting on a show.”
Maris suddenly let out a sharp scream and swept the vase off the small table beside her with one violent motion. “Search your conscience and ask yourself. Did you truly never hate me?”
The vase crashed onto the floor and shattered into pieces. The white roses that had been

arranged inside it spilled across the broken shards. Their petals soaked up the water and lay pale and wet against the floorboards.
Laila glanced down briefly and said coldly, “Pearl, ask Faulkner how much that vase cost. Have Maris repay it later.”
Pearl raised her voice immediately. “No need to ask. I remember it clearly! That vase is from Bellgari’s new release this year. There are only about a dozen of them in the entire Rydar Kingdom. It costs fifty thousand!”
