Chapter 232 It’s Worth It
Laila’s POV:
:
“Ms. Conlay just… didn’t want any trouble right before the mating ceremony…
“But Ms. Conlay, I’m not afraid of trouble.
“If someone bullies you, I’ll fight back for you. It’s just that this time… I lost…”

She weakly squeezed my hand in return. “If… if the worst happens, Ms. Conlay, don’t be sad. Pearl will stay by your side forever… even if it’s as a ghost…”
“… Don’t say that again. I won’t allow you to. Dr. Sagewood will heal you. She will!”
I was crying as I spoke, but Pearl had already closed her eyes again and slipped back into unconsciousness. Her face looked even paler than before.
I hurried off to find Rowan.
She told me, “This poison is extremely rare. We already went to question Freya, but she insists she’s never seen Pearl. And I can’t identify what kind of poison this is.”
“What am I supposed to do…” I was almost crying again.
“There is one risky option,” Rowan said slowly. “Have you ever heard of Moongleam Lake in Bloodmoon Pack? A special kind of silver–scale fish lives in those waters. They feed on toxins. It’s said that when an injured werewolf ingests poison by mistake, they jump into the pool and let those little fish peck at the wound until the poison is cleaned out.”
Moongleam Lake. I knew that place. It was close to Moonlit Valley. If I left now, I could get there within three days.
I barely hesitated. “I’ll take Pearl there right away.”
“But your mating ceremony is tomorrow, Laila.” Dr. Sagewood looked deeply worried. “Even His Majesty is paying attention to this ceremony. It won’t look good if you just leave.”
“That’s right, Ms. Conlay. We can take Pearl there for you. You can stay and go through with the mating ceremony.”
“No. I have to take Pearl there myself. Otherwise I won’t be able to rest easily.”
It wasn’t that I didn’t trust them to care for Pearl. I just couldn’t lose her too. I was afraid that if

I didn’t go, this would be the last time I ever saw her.
Without giving them another chance to stop me, I immediately started preparing to leave. As for Prince Vance, I’d originally planned to ask Martha and Irene to explain it to him for me. but Rowan said, “I think you should go tell Prince Vance yourself. He may even go with you.”
“But I want to leave right now. I…”
“Laila, even if you’re taking Pearl away, you still have to wait for me to prepare a potion for her. She has to take it first. Otherwise she won’t survive the journey there,” Dr. Sagewood cut in. “So while I’m making it, you go find Samuel.”
When she saw me hesitate, Rowan added, “Tomorrow is your mating ceremony, and Samuel personally chose someone to select an auspicious date for it. If you want to postpone it, I think you should tell him yourself.”
Samuel’s POV:
Cold mist filled the basement. An ice crystal coffin stood silently in the center, its lid frosted over with delicate crystalline patterns.
“Ms. Livingston, do I really have to lie in there?” I couldn’t help complaining. “It’s freezing.”
“Yes. If you want to complete the mating ceremony with Laila, then get inside,” Greer replied coldly.
“Will it really work?”
“Maybe.” Greer gave a cold laugh. “If you don’t believe me, then forget it.”
“No, Ms. Livingston. Of course I believe you,” I answered quickly.
Greer gave another quiet snort, then pulled a crystal vial from inside her cloak. The liquid inside gave off a strange silver glow, as if moonlight itself had been trapped in the bottle.
“Drink this before you get in. On my trip to the Far Northern Ice Fields, I didn’t find Frostmoon Moss, but I did find this in an ancient frozen werewolf tomb. Moonshade Tear.”
“Moonshade Tear?”
“Legend says it was the last tear the first werewolf shed before dying beneath the moon.” Greer handed me the vial. “It can temporarily freeze the curse inside your body. But the price is that your body will feel as though it’s being burned alive for an entire day. That’s why you have to lie inside the ice coffin.
