“Don’t even think about trying to win me over,” Morgana said, eyeing Laila warily. “I’m not going to say anything nice about you in front of Samuel.”

Laila didn’t bother wasting words, so she went straight to the point.

“I heard you were involved in an investment project led by Estelle?”

Morgana frowned. “Why are you asking about that?”

Laila leaned in slightly and lowered her voice. “You lost everything? Not even a single cent back?”

Morgana frowned.

Her silence said it all.

Laita raised a brow and clicked her tongue.

Morgana’s face flushed again. “What do you mean by that? When I invested, Estelle promised me it would definitely make money this time! And she said I’d get dividends from Cloria’s by Christmas this year!”

Laila paused. “Cloria’s? You and Estelle opened Cloria’s together?”

“Of course. It’s been running for years. We didn’t earn a single cent, and I even have to keep putting money in to cover losses…” Morgana cut herself off, realizing how foolish that sounded.

She huffed and corrected herself, “But that’s how business works. Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win. And for a high–end jewelry store like that, you have to invest heavily upfront.”

Laila smiled. Her teeth nearly ground together, but her tone remained gentle. “You’re right. Business always has its ups and downs. Oh, by the way, what’s your share in Cloria? Fifty–fifty with Estelle? Did you sign a partnership agreement? Have you ever checked the books?”

Morgana lifted her chin like a proud peacock. “Of course, we signed an agreement. Do you think I’m stupid? It’s not fifty–fifty. I hold seventy percent. And yes, I’ve seen the books. Every three months, Estelle sends someone to deliver them. I’ve checked. The losses are real.”

“Oh? You hold the majority?” Laila tilted her head. “If there are losses, wouldn’t that mean you’re the one paying more to cover them? How much have you put in over the years? Are you keeping track?”

“Of course, I am,” Morgana said defensively. “I record every amount I’ve given.”

Laila thought to herself, Good. Not completely hopeless.

She continued, “Do you remember the total?”

Morgana frowned. “Who keeps that in their head? I’d have to check the records. But it’s definitely in the hundreds of thousands.”
