But Victoria wrapped her arms around his arm. “Don’t rush. Let’s go again. I still want more…”

“This time… Can we leave the lights on? I want to see you.”

“Alright.”

Holt didn’t refuse. He reached over and turned on the light.

The moment the light came on, he saw Victoria’s flushed cheeks and her watery eyes.

She was actually really pretty.

But for some reason, his desire faded right away. He just moved a few times without much effort before finishing.

“Next time, let’s keep the lights off. This light is too bright for me.”

He made up an excuse and went straight to the bathroom before Victoria could say anything.

He didn’t turn on the hot water. Instead, he stood under the cold stream. But even the chill couldn’t put out the deep craving inside him.

Laila… Laila…

He repeated her name silently in his heart.

Meanwhile, Victoria lay in bed, listening to the sound of running water. Her thoughts drifted.

Back then, after they finished, Terrence would always hold her and take her to the bathroom together. Sometimes, one of their little Cottontails would hop in and watch them, playful and

curious.

The more she thought about it, the more she missed it. She turned over in bed, thinking maybe tomorrow she should just go buy a Cottontail to keep again.

Three days later, while staying at Silvermoon Pack, Laila heard that Samuel had been at Frostwind Pack these past few days handling business. He had taken leave and hadn’t gone to work at the Justice Department.

She guessed he was dealing with something important. Maybe it had to do with what happened at the party that night.

She didn’t send anyone to ask.

She trusted that Samuel would come to explain things to her sooner or later. If he hadn’t come yet, there must be a reason.

So, she didn’t dwell on it and went on with her days as usual.

Recently, she had been preparing small gifts for Lillian’s baby, along with things Lillian would need to recover after giving birth.

Shawn was completely unreliable. She heard that ever since Bex and Rockie went over, he hadn’t stepped into Lillian’s room even once.

“Ms. Conlay, Rockie is here.”

Pearl hurried in to report.

Laila froze for a second, then quickly got up and headed to the sitting room. Pearl and Martha followed right behind her.

Rockie and Bex had been coming by from time to time to give updates. They usually came during the day, not in the evening or at night.

But now it was already dark. Why would Rockie come so suddenly? Did something happen to Lillian?

As soon as Rockie saw Laila, she stood up and said, “Laila, I lost my temper and snapped that jerk’s arm.”

“What?! What happened?” Laila asked quickly.

Rockie looked serious. “I promised you before that I wouldn’t use force. But today, he went too far.

“Tiffany came over today and tried to pick a fight with Lillian. At first, Bex and I didn’t let her in. But she insisted on coming in, sat down, drank a glass of water, and then suddenly said her stomach hurt. She even told Shawn that Lillian poisoned her. But he actually believed such an obvious lie. He got angry and went to confront Lillian.

“Lillian didn’t say it out loud, but we all knew she had been hoping he would come see her. So when he went in, we didn’t stop him. We thought if there were issues, they should talk it out. At least that way, Lillian might feel a little better before the baby is born. She’s been crying alone at night.”

Laila’s expression turned tense. “Did he go in and yell at her?”

“If he only yelled, I wouldn’t have hit him,” Rockie said. “He pushed her. He shoved her so hard her belly hit the edge of the table. She was in so much pain she broke out in a cold sweat. That’s when I rushed in and hit him.”

“He pushed her?” Laila’s voice rose. “How is she now?”

“The wolf healer checked her. The baby is unstable, so she has to stay in bed for a month.” Rockie looked frustrated. “Lillian kept calling for her mom, so I went to her parents‘ place and asked them to come see her.”

Rockie paused for a while, making everyone anxious. Laila couldn’t help but ask, “Did they go?”
