She merely blinked, repeating the same line again as if it were carved into her belief. “Betraying the Moon Goddess is a grave sin. Even if nothing happens at first, in time you understand. Everything must be paid for.”

Laila’s brows furrowed. “I don’t remember the Whitmore family ever suffering any major disaster. On what basis are you making that conclusion?”

Ruby averted her gaze. Her tone turned colder.

“Laila, I know you don’t believe me. That’s fine. I won’t force it on you.” Then she added, almost pleading, “But for Lillian’s sake… She has always respected and loved you. Don’t harm her. The two people you sent to the Thunder Pack… Take them back. Servants who dare strike their master are not good servants. The Thunder Pack doesn’t need them. And Lillian doesn’t either.”

“Impossible.” Laila walked to the door and gestured firmly. “They are there to protect Lillian. Until she gives birth, I will not recall them. Mrs. Whitmore, the Silvermoon Pack does not welcome you. Please leave.”

Ruby’s eyes widened. “Laila, you’re not even going to listen to me anymore? Lillian is my daughter. I will take care of her!”

Laila did not even look at her. “Pearl. See her out.”

With that, she turned and left.

News of Laila losing her temper because of Ruby soon reached Viola.

After asking Pearl about what had happened, she was so angry she bared her teeth. “Who wouldn’t be furious hearing something like that? If she weren’t Laila’s elder, she would’ve already been slapped out the door.”

She stood up decisively. “Laila must be upset. I’ll go buy something she likes to cheer her up.”

And with that, she rushed out. When she reached outside the den, she noticed the door of the house on the left was open.

She paused. Curiosity got the better of her, and she knocked. “Hello? Is anyone there?”

After waiting a moment without response, she should have left, but curiosity about who had bought the house stopped her.

Pearl had always said it belonged to Prince Vance. She wanted to confirm it herself.

So, Viola stepped inside.

Inside, she saw a tall, powerful male figure in the distance. Before she could make out his features, someone suddenly grabbed her from behind and flung her straight out.

The door slammed shut with a heavy bang.

“Private property. No trespassing.”

A cold, unfamiliar voice came from inside.

It had rained the night before. Viola landed in a muddy puddle, her clothes instantly soaked and stained.

Though furious, she knew she was at fault for trespassing. More importantly, she hadn’t even sensed the person approaching. Meaning whoever had thrown her out was far stronger than her.

And that man standing inside, seen only from behind, also felt unfathomably dangerous.

So, in the end, she swallowed her anger.

“Pah! It’s not like it’s some great place anyway. Even if you begged me, I wouldn’t come in!”

She cursed and turned back toward the den to change clothes.

Behind the closed door, the cold–faced man heard her words and could not help but curve his lips slightly.

But in the next second, his expression returned to its usual indifference as he walked inward. “Sorry. That was my mistake. I forgot to lock the door,” he said.

The man inside did not turn around. “Make sure there won’t be a next time.”
