Greer accompanied them the entire way. Not merely to protect Samuel, but because she feared his curse might suddenly flare up again.

Although Luke knew Laila was not truly to blame, he still could not help complaining to Greer. “If Alpha hadn’t drunk that bottle of Moonshade Tear, his condition wouldn’t have changed like this.”

Greer, however, was far more open–minded about it. “That was his own choice. People always have to pay some kind of price for the things they truly want.

“And besides… sometimes change isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It could also be a turning point.”

Luke blinked in surprise. “Ms. Livingston… what do you mean by that?”

But Greer only shook her head and offered no further explanation.

Meanwhile, back at the Silvermoon Pack, Laila sat alone in the study, continuing her work deciphering the Ancient Friselian.

This was not something she could rush. She could only take it step by step.

Viola leaned in close, studying her face carefully. “Don’t tell me you’re thinking about Samuel. He probably hasn’t gone too far yet. If you chase after him now, you might still catch him.”

Laila’s face heated guiltily, though she immediately denied it. “I already told you. He’s not mine.”

Viola raised a brow but didn’t tease her further. Instead, her expression suddenly turned serious. “Laila, I’ve discovered something very serious.”

“What is it?” Laila immediately straightened as well, her expression becoming solemn.

Viola leaned even closer and lowered her voice dramatically. “Laila… I think you’ve fallen in love with Samuel.”

Laila didn’t even know how to respond to that.

She inhaled deeply before pushing Viola’s face away with one hand. “I won’t let myself fall in love with him.”

Viola looked baffled. “But why not? He’s handsome, ridiculously strong, a prince, filthy rich, and he treats you so well. Don’t tell me you’re still thinking about that bastard Holt…”

“I’m not.”

Laila denied it immediately. Then she sighed softly. “Samuel already has someone he likes.”

“What?!” Viola shot upright instantly. “Then why is he proposing to you? Isn’t that just being a scumbag?”

“It’s not like that.” Laila quickly shook her head. “There’s a reason behind the proposal… but I can’t tell you.”

“Oh?” Viola tilted her head. “So you two have secrets together now?”

“…You could say that.” Laila paused briefly before continuing. “I can only tell you that our marriage is based on mutual benefit.”

“Really?” Viola rested her chin in her hand, still looking unconvinced. “But I genuinely think he likes you. Every time he looks at you, his eyes practically glow. If he didn’t like you, he wouldn’t look at you like that.”
