Chapter 351 Laila Falls From the Sky
Third–person POV:
Outside the door, Holt was fighting five wolves single–handedly–three Alphas and two Betas.

On top of that, he had to keep one eye on Victoria, who could do nothing but scream, and it didn’t take long before he started taking hits.
Luckily, by that point, the Beta he had called through the mind link had finally arrived and took some of the pressure off him.
But their attackers were simply too strong, and the Beta was wounded not long after.
The heavy door behind him stayed shut tight. Maris showed no sign of coming out.
A few of the men in black noticed movement inside the room. Three of them circled around to the window, swung their wolf–shifted arms to smash through the ironwood frame, and vaulted inside.
Maris had been tracking every sound around her, the door latch gripped tight in her hand. The instant she heard someone crash through the window, she yanked the door open and bolted outside.
The wolf, which had been locked in combat with Holt, saw her run for it. It kicked Holt aside, leapt into the air, and aimed its claws straight at Maris’s face.
Maris threw an arm up to block and managed to slip away by the skin of her teeth.
Right after, another attacker came at her from behind. Maris twisted to the side, the tip of the claws grazing her ribs as she got clear.
Holt watched the whole thing unfold, more than a little surprised.
Maris’s luck was absurd–she had dodged every single strike.
But a few minutes more of watching, and he realized it wasn’t just luck.
Her combat skill had taken a massive leap forward since the last time he had seen her fight. Her footwork, her instincts, her timing on every block–none of it looked anything like an ordinary Beta’s.
While he was still trying to process what he was seeing, Maris shouted, “Holt, help me!”
After a brief hesitation, Holt charged in anyway. Maris was the saintess of Stillmoon Sanctum after all, and she couldn’t be allowed to die.
For some reason, the moment those wolves laid eyes on Maris, they turned absolutely rabid, throwing themselves at her with no regard for their own lives.
Holt fought back as best he could, but he was driven back step by step, blood spraying from his wounds. Maris, on

the other hand, was holding up just fine. She had taken hits too, but clearly far fewer than he had.
In the middle of the fight, Holt shot her a glance and froze for a moment. She was only a Beta, so how was she taking less damage than he was?
That single second of distraction was all it took for him to forget to block.
One of the masked attackers spotted the opening, darted past him, and lashed his razor–sharp claws straight at Maris’s heart.
Without a moment’s thought, Maris grabbed Holt and yanked him in front of her as a human shield.
“No-!”
Victoria, huddled in the corner, let out a scream that sounded like her chest was being torn open.
“Maris, you—!” Holt could never have dreamed she would do this to him. He had jumped into this fight to save her.

Now, wounded as he was, both of his arms locked in Maris’s iron grip, he didn’t even have a chance to swing a claw in his own defense.
All he could do was watch helplessly as the claws of three masked attackers came stabbing at his chest all at once. The razor edges sliced through the air, carrying the icy bite of death.
It was as if every drop of blood in the room had frozen solid. No one had any time to save him.

Victoria slammed her eyes shut, unable to bring herself to watch her mate die a brutal death under those assassins‘ claws.
At the very last second, there was a sharp whistle through the air, and a stone came flying out of nowhere, striking the assassin’s arm with pinpoint accuracy and knocking the claws off course.
A heartbeat later, a figure dropped down from the air. Her toes touched the ground, and the very moment she steadied her stance, her arms had already shifted into wolf form, ten claws gleaming with a cold light in the moonlight. Without so much as a pause, a flash of silver tore through the night–her claws swept out in a wide arc and drove the three masked figures back.
Before anyone could even make out who she was, she was already locked in combat with them.
Every move she made was fast, brutal, and dead–on, clean and efficient with not a wasted motion. Every swipe of her claws cut through the air with a sharp, ripping sound. Every dodge was timed to the split second, slipping past their attacks at exactly the right angle.
The wolves were driven steadily back under her assault. Just moments ago, they had been throwing vicious, blistering claw attacks–but now, in front of her, those attacks looked as though something were pressing down on them with crushing force.
It was the absolute dominance of a top–tier Alpha. It was a difference in rank, plain and simple.
