After temporarily calming Victor down, Finneas returned to Blake and quietly apologized. “Marshal, please don’t be angry. I know we already decided to end negotiations, but we still need to drag this out longer. Otherwise, if word gets out that we abandoned our own men so quickly and didn’t care whether they lived or died, our reputation will take a serious hit.”

Blake stared at him, increasingly convinced Finneas was hiding something.

He pulled Finneas aside and lowered his voice. “Tell me the truth. Where exactly is Prince Vance?”

Finneas didn’t dare answer directly. Samuel had only informed him about the rescue mission, not Blake. If Blake learned the truth, he would absolutely hold a grudge over being excluded. So Finneas answered vaguely, “I’m not sure either. But I’ve followed His Highness for three years, so I understand his temperament somewhat. He… may have gone to Ovila to rescue Cottontail. He probably didn’t tell us because he was worried about leaks.”

Blake’s face turned dark with anger. “If you suspected that, why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

Finneas thought bitterly that because every thought Blake had was written across his face. If Blake had known, Victor would’ve seen through it instantly.

But he could only say, “It was just a guess. How could I casually report speculation like that to you?”

Blake glared at him fiercely for a long moment. At the same time, his mind spun rapidly. That probably wasn’t speculation at all. Samuel had certainly gone to rescue the prisoner.

And if the rescue succeeded, they wouldn’t have to exchange anything with Ovila anymore.

Not even a single gold coin.

Samuel’s prestige within the army would rise even higher.

Blake quickly calculated the situation in his head. He couldn’t oppose Samuel openly. Samuel would naturally claim the lion’s share of the credit, but Blake still needed to grab at least a few scraps for himself.

His expression eased slightly. “Whether your guess is right or not, we can’t take risks. Stall them as long as possible. Come on. We’re going back out to keep Victor occupied.”

Finneas finally relaxed and followed him out.

Victor was far too suspicious. The moment Blake mentioned Samuel’s name earlier, he already felt something was off. He forced himself to sit through more negotiations, but the longer he watched Blake, the more it became obvious that Blake didn’t actually care much about the hostage. If anything, he looked like he was deliberately buying time.

Victor abruptly stood up. “Negotiations are over. We’re returning to the city.”

The tiny schemes written all over Blake’s face finally made Victor unable to sit still any longer.

If Samuel really had infiltrated the city to rescue the prisoner, then he would definitely make his move during the 8:00 p.m. shift change tonight. If they hurried back now, there might still be time.

Victor strode out rapidly. The elite fighters behind him immediately followed, while the large group of soldiers transformed into wolves and sprinted off.

Blake looked at Finneas and said flatly, “We did everything we could. The rest depends on Samuel himself. If he rescues them successfully, he’ll earn a great achievement. If he fails, that’s not on us.”

Finneas was furious inside.

With Blake negotiating so halfheartedly, how could they possibly keep Victor occupied?

Now, all he could do was pray. He prayed that Samuel could get everyone out before Victor returned. Otherwise, the consequences would be unimaginable.

Meanwhile, Samuel had already pulled the prisoner out of the dungeon. The moment he rushed outside, he found the entire area engulfed in chaos.

Several people on Terrence’s side were already wounded.

Luckily, Greer was holding the line, so they hadn’t suffered major losses yet. But enemy reinforcements were increasing rapidly. They had to retreat immediately.

Samuel carried Willy on his back and burst out of the fighting. His figure flashed like lightning across the night sky. Within moments, he reached the extraction point.

He shoved the man into Woodrow’s arms and barked in a low voice, “Go!”

Without wasting a second, Woodrow vanished into the darkness with the prisoner.

If they rescued one person only to lose several others in return, then this entire operation would be a complete failure.

He rushed to Luke’s side and slashed sideways with one claw. The strike carried the overwhelming force of thunder, blasting the soldiers surrounding Luke backward several

steps.

Greer was fighting the experts Victor had left behind. Although Victor had taken most of the elite troops with him, he had still stationed over a dozen skilled fighters here to guard the prison.

But now that Samuel had joined the battle, they were nearly unstoppable in fighting together.

The problem was that there were simply too many enemies. The two of them could escape easily on their own, but the others couldn’t.

So, they had no choice but to rescue people one at a time, freeing someone and sending them

before returning for the next.
