Chapter 369 Because of Laila
Third–person POV:
When Holt received the letter, his fingers trembled as he drew it from the envelope.

His heart pounded wildly in his chest. There weren’t many words on the paper. No greeting. No pleasantries. Not even an extra sentence. Just one cold line, “Go see Dr. Sagewood
tomorrow.”
That was it.
But Holt stared at those words for a long time.
His thumb slowly brushed over the edge of the paper again and again, as if the faded ink still carried the warmth of Laila’s fingertips from when she wrote it.
As if she were still here.
In the end, he carefully folded the letter, making sure the corners lined up perfectly. Then he pressed it against his chest and tucked it inside his shirt, right against his skin, as close to his heart as he could get it.
That night, Holt didn’t return to the main bedroom. He slept in the study instead.
He had been doing that for days now, curling up alone on the narrow leather couch with an old blanket wrapped around him like an exiled drifter.
Victoria came by and knocked on the door.
Through the door, he told her he was busy, his tone as flat and dismissive as if he were turning away a random pack member.
She stood outside with her lips pressed into a thin line, anger burning quietly in her eyes.
Once again, Victoria spent the night waiting for him in vain.
She sat alone in the empty bedroom. The sheets were cold, and the other side of the bed was perfectly smooth–Holt hadn’t touched that side in a long time.
Ever since Laila saved him that day, Holt hadn’t stepped into Victoria’s room again.
It was as if his heart had been ripped out by the roots that day.
But why?

She was Holt’s Luna.
She was his rightful Luna, recognized by the Moon Goddess. That position was hers. He was hers. So how could an ex–wife just walk back in, do absolutely nothing, and take him away from her so easily?
Laila was doing this on purpose.
She had to be.
She came back just so Holt would see her again.
She wanted every Alpha revolving around her, feeding her endless vanity.
Victoria grabbed Cottontail as it jumped onto her lap.
Jealousy was like a wild beast out of control, slowly devouring her sanity and tearing at her heart.
Why?
Why was happiness always out of reach?
Terrence was dead. He died under Kain’s command in that damned war. She used to think he was her fated Alpha, but the Moon Goddess had ripped him away from her.
And now Holt’s heart had changed. Because of Laila. That woman didn’t even have to try. Just being alive, just appearing in front of Holt, was enough to take everything away from her.
And Laila…
Victoria’s nails nearly dug into Cottontail’s body.
Laila was Kain’s daughter.
Everything was because of Laila.
Holt arrived at Rowan’s clinic right on time, only to realize with disappointment that Laila wasn’t there.
After checking him over briefly, Rowan wasted no time kicking him out.
“Get out. I’ll let you know if I find anything.”
Laila was surprised when she heard that. “What kind of curse is this? You have no clue?”
