Terrence stood there, watching Blake walk farther and farther away. rlis eyes stayed fixed on that retreating figure for a long time.
That was Victoria’s older brother. He should have recognized him.
When Blake saw him, his gaze had passed over Terrence like he was nothing more than a stranger on the street.
Terrence had no idea whether Blake failed to recognize him or he did but chose to pretend otherwise,
Forget it. There’s no point thinking about it anymore.
Luke was right.
Victona had another mate by her side. She had formed a new bond. He needed to let go.
That would be best for everyone. Right now, William mattered more than anything else.
The medic’s expression darkened after checking William’s condition.
He asked Samuel for the medicine William had been taking these past few days. After opening it, he carefully inspected it, brought it to his nose to smell it, then rubbed a little between his fingertips.
“This medicine kept him alive,” the medic said quietly. “Without it, he never would’ve survived this long.”
The army had excellent medicine for injuries, and the medic used it immediately. But after treating William’s wounds, he still shook his head and asked Samuel to step outside.
“Your Highness,” he said in a lowered voice, clearly worried the others inside might overhear, “I’ll do everything I can, but at best, I can only keep him stable for another week or so. And I know this sounds harsh, but I have to tell the truth. There’s barely a patch of healthy skin left on his body. He’s swollen everywhere. The wounds are infected everywhere, too. If you hadn’t been giving him that medicine this whole time, he would’ve died already.”
Samuel’s face tightened. “I still have some left,” he said quickly. “If we keep giving it to him during the trip, can we buy-another month?”
The combat medic shook his head immediately, without even hesitating.
୮
“No. That medicine protects his heart and keeps his body from collapsing. The fact that he’s lasted this long is already a miracle. But another month? That’s impossible.”
Samuel frowned deeply.
“Then stay with him the whole way,” he said. “I’ll talk to Blake.”
The medic’s eyes turned red too. He wiped his face and nodded. “Alright. Honestly, I really admire him. That man’s willpower is terrifying. He must still be holding on because he’s worried about his family. He refuses to let go. Most people…” He sighed heavily. “Most people wouldn’t have lasted this long.”
Those words stabbed straight into Samuel’s chest.

He thought back to his years on the battlefields of Vagen, especially that brutal first year. Back then, he nearly died. But there had
always been a fire burning inside him. His work was unfinished. Diana had promised him a chance. Once the curse was broken, he could finally propose to baila. No matter what, he had to survive and return to the woman he had loved for years.
That single thought had carried him through one life-and-death moment after another.
He understood exactly what William was holding onto.
Samuel asked the combat medic to do everything possible to stabilize William’s condition. Then he went to find Tyler and the others.
“Over the last few years,” Samuel said as he crouched down to meet the wounded men at eye level, “wife did William talk about the most? Who mattered to him most?”
Tyler thought for a moment, his eyes reddened.
