Laila’s voice came out hard as stone. “First, when Shawn was mistreating Lillian over that Omega, you knew about it, and all you did was tell her to put up with it. Second, the first time Shawn beat her, you and Mr. Whitmore knew, and not one of you said a word to him. You still told her to hold on and wait for him to come around. Third, Lillian’s difficult labor happened because Shawn shoved her down those steps. She was one foot in the grave, and when she was fighting for her life, she called my name, not yours
She paused, her gaze cutting like a blade.
“And there’s more. She wanted to end the mate bond, and you refused. Mr. Whitmore even tried to speak for Shawn, wanted her to stay and keep living with him. What, are you disappointed she didn’t die this time? Did you want him to keep hurting her until she ended up like Alpha Damian’s former Luna, Ms. Harmon, abused to death and left to die alone somewhere? Would that finally make you happy?”
Ruby’s face went white. She stared at Laila, stunned, like she hadn’t expected her to say something like that in front of so many people.
That last line was deliberate.
No one knew the truth about Elyse.
Damian had buried it completely. He claimed she left Bloodmoon Pack of her own free will and told the outside world she’d gone away to recover her health. He wrapped everything in polite lies, polished his image clean. There were rumors, of course, but even Elyse’s own daughters defended him.
When even her daughters said that much, who would question it? Rumors blurred together until no one could tell truth from fiction.
But one thing everyone could see was that not long after Elyse/died, Damian married Sophie. That alone was enough to spark talk.
Laila bringing it up now was meant to plant doubt.
Damian wanted to walk away spotless, dignified, untouched by gossip?
Not happening.
If he had the nerve to show up and stay near the Royal Court, then he was asking for trouble. She wasn’t about to make things easy for him.
Laila went on, “And I’m not stopping you from seeing your daughter. If you come as her mother to visit her, I’m sure Lillian be glad to see you.”
Then she shut the door.
Ruby was left standing outside, the eyes of passersby lingering on her as they whispered
Her whole body weat rigid with anger. She clenched her jaw and turned away
The news reached Samuel soon after.
He shot up from his chair in an instant

Laila must be in a bad mood right now,” he said, already heading for the door. “I’m going to check on her.”
Luke rolled his eyes from the side.

Normally, Prince Vance is calm, decisive on the battlefield, and flawless in council. But the moment it has anything to do with Laila, he turns into a different person. He’s impulsive and acts right away, with no hesitation at all.
Hopeless.
But Luke didn’t stop him.
He knew how long Samuel had loved Laila. He’d loved her for a very, very long time. And now that he’d finally won her over and she was his fiancée, sticking close to her was only natural.
Samuel arrived at Silvermoon Pack not long after.
He went with Laila to see Lillian first.
Lillian was still recovering. Her face was pale, but her spirits seemed steady enough.
Samuel explained what had been done with Shawn. He explained the sentence, where he’d be held, and how things would proceed. Every detail was laid out clearly.
Laila listened and nodded.
After leaving Lillian’s room, the two of them went to the study.
The door closed. Samuel sat down as if it were nothing and asked, “By the way, the house to your left. Have you seen the owner
yet?”
“To the left?” Laila thought for a moment. “I haven’t paid attention. Why?”
“Nothing.” Samuel lifted his cup and took a sip, expression neutral.
The tips of his ears were just a little red.
Laila didn’t notice. She was looking down at the documents on the desk, her brows slightly drawn, clearly Lillian. Samuel didn’t rush her. He just sat there, watching her quietly.
He liked watching her work. She moved with quiet focus, everything precise, a steady light in her eyes.
After a while, Laila finally looked up. “Do you need something else?”
“No.” Samuel said, “Where are you going?”
