Third-person POV:

Samuel didn’t even blink.

Laila said nothing.

She turned and kept walking without another word.

But the corner of her lips lifted just a little.

After finishing up in the kitchen, Laila went to the stables to check on the horses. Samuel followed. She moved on to the training grounds to watch the new recruits. Samuel followed. She returned to the study to handle paperwork. Samuel still followed.

Like a shadow, he trailed her everywhere she went.

The people of Silvermoon Pack were stunned.

“That’s… Prince Vance?”

“Yeah.”

“The one they say kills without blinking and scares kids just by looking at them?”

“Yeah.”

“Why is he following Laila around like that?”

No one answered. They were all thinking the same thing.

He was smiling. Not openly, not boldly. Just a faint, quiet smile he couldn’t quite hide.

Laila finally stopped, turned, and folded her arms. “What exactly are you doing? Don’t you have work today?”

“I took the day off,” Samuel said.

She froze. “From whom?”

“Myself.”

Laila took a slow breath, her expression tangled. She wanted to snap at him, but the words wouldn’t come. She wanted to send him away, but knew he wouldn’t leave.

In the end, she just let out a soft nuff and turned to walk again.

This time, she didn’t step away when his shoulder brushed hers.

“Wow.”

“Yeah.”

By nightfall, Samuel was still planted in the study at Silvermoon Pack, not even pretending to leave.

Laila sat behind the desk, studying ancient script. She glanced up at him. “You’re not going back?”

“I had a little to drink. Can’t make the trip,” Samuel said, leaning back in his chair, his gaze resting lazily on her. “Frostwind Pack’s too far.”

Laila glanced at the three or four empty bottles in front of him.

He had been drinking. But for him, that was nothing.

She didn’t call him out.

“Then take a guest room,” she said, lowering her head and returning to her reading.

Samuel didn’t move.

After a while, he stood and walked over to her. Laila looked up, but before she could react, he’d already leaned down, one hand braced against the back of her chair, boxing her in between him and the desk.

“Samuel-”

“I’m a little drunk,” he said.

His voice was lower than usual, rougher, like it had slipped loose from somewhere deep in his throat.

Laila caught the scent of alcohol mixed with his natural scent, and her heart gave a small, unexpected jump.

“You’re not drunk,” she said.

“I am.”

His gaze dropped to her lips.

Her fingers curled slightly.

She didn’t push him away.

The distance between them closed, inch by inch. His breath brushed her face. Her lashes trembled, then slowly fell shut

Right then, a voice burst through his mind.

“Your Highness.”

It was Luke, calling through the mind link.

Samuel’s brows snapped together. He didn’t want to answer, but the connection kept preying insistently, pounding at my head.
