“Do you understand the rights I’m reading to you?” one of the Bloodwatch intoned coldly as iron cuffs snapped around Sofia’s wrists.

The sharp bite of metal against her skin sent her heart racing, pounding so hard it felt like it might burst through her chest. Her blood turned to ice, her body trembling though the room was cold enough already.

“What?” she stammered, her voice rising. “Luna Amelia? Are you crazy? I’m the Luna! How dare you arrest me?” Her eyes darted wildly, desperation dripping from every word. “I don’t know what lies that woman fed you, but you can’t do this. This is my husband’s pack!”

Her breath hitched as she turned toward Aiden, waiting, needing him to intervene. One word from him, one command, and the Bloodwatch would release her. She stared, pleading with her eyes.

“Aiden,” her voice cracked, “you can’t let this happen. You can’t let them take me! Amelia is framing me! She tried to kill my son! Our son!” Her scream echoed off the ward walls, raw and sharp, her gaze locked on Aiden like he was her lifeline.

But Aiden didn’t move. He didn’t say a word.

He stood still, silent as stone, eyes fixed on her, not with love, not even with anger, but with something far worse: belief.

Sweat rolled down Sofia’s temple despite the chill. His silence was damning. His eyes told her exactly what she feared….he believed the accusations.

“No… no, please…” Tears welled in her eyes, hot and desperate. She clung to the one weapon she knew he hated: her tears. “Please don’t tell me you believe her, Aiden,” she sobbed, her voice breaking into jagged pieces.

“Aiden! I’m your wife,” she cried out, her voice trembling with fury and despair. “I’m the mother of your son. I gave you an heir!”

Still, he said nothing.

The Bloodwatch took his silence as consent. They tightened their grip on her arms and began dragging her toward the door.

“Let me go!” she screamed, her voice shrill with terror as hot tears streaked her cheeks. She fought against their iron hold. her eyes flashing toward Amelia who stood in the doorway, James a steady shadow beside her.

Amelia’s expression was unreadable, but the slight curve of her lips betrayed her. A faint smirk.

Sofia’s fury ignited at the sight. “I said let me go! I am your Luna I order you to release me!” Her shrieks filled the hallway, but the Bloodwatch didn’t flinch. Her title meant nothing to them. Only the Alpha’s word mattered and he still hadn’t spoken.

They dragged her into the corridor, her heels scraping the polished floor.

Alpha Alaric stormed toward them, his thunderous roar halting everyone in their tracks. “What the hell is going on here?”

Sofia’s head snapped up, hope flooding her chest. She forced teas to streak faster down her cheeks as she rushed to speak.

“Oh, Father-in-law,” she gasped, voice trembling with false relict Thank the Moon Goddess you’re here. I’m being framed! Amelia accused me of murdering her daughter, Eva. She accused me of trying to kill her and her son when she’s the one who poisoned my Ethan!” Her sobs broke into pitiful gasps as sl buried her face in her shoulder, the image of a wronged

wife.

Alaric’s eyes cut past her, landing on Amelia with burning hatred His lip curled, disgust and rage pouring off him. But Amelia didn’t flinch. She met his glare head-on, her gaze cold, yielding

“Aiden!” Alaric barked, his voice shaking the corridor. “What is this nonsense? Why would you let them drag your wife away

Aiden stepped out of the ward, his face unreadable, his fists clenched at his sides. He said nothing, the silence stretching heavy between them.

Alaric’s rage boiled over. “So this is it? This is how you get rid of your wife so you can run into the arms of her? This thing?” His voice was thick with venom, his hand pointing toward Amelia as though her very presence was filth. He couldn’t even pronounce her name because it tasted like poison in his tongue.

“She’s not a thing, Father,” Aiden bit out, his tone low, and dangerous.

Alaric’s jaw tightened, fury trembling through his frame. “You defend that woman every chance you get, but you let the Bloodwatch drag your wife through the halls in chains? If you won’t act, then I will. I will not stand by while you destroy this pack and everything I built!”

He turned sharply to the Bloodwatch, his command cracking like a whip. “Let her go.”

The warriors exchanged quick, tense glances. Sofia’s lips stretched into a trembling smirk, her watery eyes glinting with triumph. She turned to Amelia, relishing the defeated flicker she saw in her eyes.

“Didn’t you hear the Alpha?” Sofia snapped, her voice suddenly Honeyed with arrogance. “Take these off me. They hurt.” She lifted her cuffed wrists with a pitiful whimper.

The Bloodwatch moved toward her, reaching for the keys.

“Don’t!”

The single word thundered through the hall. Every head whipped toward Aiden. His voice cracked with command, his eyes burning.

Sofia’s smirk froze, fading slowly. “What do you mean, don’t?”

“They came for you,” Aiden said, his voice hard as steel. “You’ll go with them. You’ll stand trial before the Council. If you’re not guilty, then you’ll walk free.”

Real tears spilled now, raw and unrestrained. “Aiden… no… I’m not guilty of anything,” she begged, her voice a strangled whisper.

“Then you shouldn’t fear the trial,” he said flatly. No emotion. No softness.

Alaric’s voice roared over hers. “Are you insane, Aiden? You’d hand her over to them? You know what they do! They’ll torture her until she confesses to crimes she never committed!” He dragged a furious hand through his hair, disbelief raging through his veins.

“I order you now… let her go! I am the Alpha. You obey my command, not my son’s!”

But Aiden’s voice split through his words like a blade. “I am the pha now, Father!” His roar shook the corridor, cold and absolute. “And they obey me…not you.”

Alaric’s chest heaved. Cold shivers rippled down his spine. The oodwatch lowered their heads in acknowledgment and tightened their hold on Sofia.

She broke into ragged sobs, thrashing desperately. “Aiden, please Please!” Her cries echoed as they dragged her down the hall, her voice growing weaker the farther they pulled her away.

Aiden didn’t move. Didn’t blink.

“I am so disappointed in you, Aiden,” Alaric spat, his voice trembling with fury and grief. He shook his head and followed the Bloodwatch down the hall, his presence looming like a stor

Aiden’s chest rose and fell once, twice. Slowly, he turned, his eye locking on Amelia. She stared back, her expression carved from ice. Neither spoke. Then, without a word, she spun on her feel and strode away.

“Are you okay?” James asked quietly, stepping forward.

“Okay?” Aiden’s laugh was bitter, broken. “I just watched my wife dragged away in chains, accused of murdering my daughter. I could not even save her. I’m far from okay, James.” His shoulders sagged as he re-entered the ward. James followed close behind.

“Then why didn’t you stop them?” James pressed, his voice low.

Aiden’s gaze shifted to Ethan, pale and motionless in the hospital bed. His hands trembled at his sides. “I don’t know. My wolf… he wouldn’t let me. It’s like… he wanted her taken away.” His voice was hoarse, empty.

Silence stretched until realization struck Aiden. His eyes snapped toward James, sharp and accusing.

“How did Amelia reach the Bloodwatch?” His voice was deadly quiet. “No one knows where they are. No one, except me and my father.” He paused, fury building in his chest. “You helped her.”

James’s jaw tensed. His silence was answer enough.

Finally, he said, steady and unflinching, “I did.”

Aiden’s fist flew before James could brace himself. The punch landed hard, cracking across his cheek. James staggered, blood spilling from his lip as he growled.

“What the hell was that for?” he barked, wiping his mouth.

Aiden didn’t answer. He turned and walked out of the ward without a backward glance.

James stood there, tasting blood, and sighing heavily as the weight of everything pressed down on him.
