Cassia, on the other hand, had let him hug her. She didn’t push in away, didn’t fight, didn’t resist or pull back But she didn’t hug him back either. Still, her wolf stirred, feeling safe, sothed, and inexplicably calm in his arms. Her eyes fluttered shut as she melted against him, the rigid wall she had built around her heart cracking under the weight of his embrace

It felt like her body had been aching for this, for the Alpha’s arm without even realizing it. A hug that could silence the torment raging inside her chest. His scent filled her lungs, groundling her, sweet yet fierce, wrapping around her soul like a balm. With each second, it was as if the sorrow and pain she carried for so long were being drained away, piece by piece. into him.

“I’m sorry, Amelia…” he whispered hoarsely, his voice breaking against her ear.

“I’m sorry I failed you. I’m sorry I failed Eva. I’m sorry… for everything.” His words trembled as his hand drifted down the length of her hair, slow and tender, his thumb grazing her scalp with reverence.

Cassia squeezed her eyes tighter, unable to stop the tears slipping free.

“I promise… now that they’ve been caught, I will make sure justice is served. For our daughter.” His vow broke something inside her.

Her eyes snapped open. Abruptly, she tore herself from his arms Her chest rose and fell heavily as she wiped her tears with trembling hands before turning away without a word.

She walked upstairs to the guest room, her steps sharp, controlled. She gathered her few belongings and Arthur’s, shoving them into a small box, her jaw clenched tight the entire time. When she came back down, Aiden was still standing there. unmoving, waiting.

Her cold glare met his.

“You’re leaving?” he asked, stepping forward, his body blocking her path.

“I never lived here,” she replied flatly. “This isn’t my home.”

“But this is your home, Amelia. It has always been, and it will always be.” His voice cracked, and tears glazed his eyes.

Cassia shook her head bitterly.

“It will never be. Aiden, you seem to forget. you left me. You rejected me. You looked me in the eye and told me you didn’t want me anymore because your first love had returned. Don’t think that just because Sofia is locked away now, and you’ve discovered she’s Eva’s killer, that you can so easily turn back to me. I am not here to be her replacement.”

“Amelia…” His voice wavered as he took another step closer. “You’re wrong. I’m not trying to replace anyone. No one has ever replaced you. You have always been here, in my heart. Always.”

He reached for her hand and brought it to his chest, pressing he palm over the steady thrum of his heartbeat.

“My heart has only ever beaten for you. It never belonged to anyone else. It never will.” His grip tightened around her hand. as though anchoring her there.

Her throat bobbed. She swallowed hard, lips pressed together, while deep inside she felt her wolf stirring more violently than ever. His heartbeat thundered beneath her palm, and her chest betrayed her, racing uncontrollably in response. But she forced herself to remain composed.

“Just leave me alone,” she whispered, wrenching her hand away and clutching her box like a shield.

She tried to move past him, but Aiden caught her wrist and gently pulled her back, this time straight into his chest. Their bodies collided, the heat of his touch igniting a spark that racedown her spine. Their eyes locked. For a moment, the world seemed to still.

“I want you, Amelia.” His words were low, raw, and trembling with restrained passion. “I know I can’t undo what I did. I know nothing can ever erase the mistakes. But I need you to know… I love you. I’ve always loved you. I never stopped loving you.”

His hand slid into her hair, his fingers trembling as though he feared she would vanish if he let go.

Cassia froze, caught in the storm of his gaze. His eyes, once cold and unforgiving, now burned with desperation, longing. regret. The scent of him flooded her senses, dragging her back to the days when everything between them was pure, untouched by betrayal. For a fleeting heartbeat, she almost let herself remember that kind of love again.

Aiden’s gaze roamed her face, tracing every detail with reverence. Her emerald eyes, the slope of her nose, the lips that parted slightly as though inviting him closer. His chest heaved, restraint unraveling.

“Aiden…” she whispered shakily, trying to anchor herself, trying to resist the dangerous warmth seeping into her veins. But her wolf howled, pressing against the edges of her control, urging her to surrender.

“You don’t know what you do to me, Amelia,” he rasped, cupping her cheek with trembling fingers. “You’re driving me insane. You always have.”

She closed her eyes, her body betraying her, leaning into his touch even as her mind screamed against it.

“Fuck…” Aiden cursed under his breath, his self-control fraying. Her scent was maddening, intoxicating. His wolf surged to the surface, clawing to take over. He’d starved for her touch for so long, yearned for her presence, her warmth, her soul. And now she was here…so close he could feel her breath mingling with his.

He tilted his head, his lips ghosting toward hers, fire and lightning crackling in the space between them.

But then Cassia’s eyes flew open. Fury blazed in her emerald irises as she wrenched herself back with a force that cut him deeper than any blade.

“Stay away from me, Aiden.” Her voice was sharp, final, her glare deadly. She gripped her box tighter and stormed past him. She spotted James standing by the door, watching, and cast him scalding glare as she left.

Aiden turned sharply. His face darkened. “How long have you been standing there?”

James shrugged. “I don’t know. Two minutes? Three? Maybe five

Aiden dragged a hand down his face, exhaling sharply.

“Where is she going to stay now? It’s still dangerous for her to be alone. Dante is still out there. What if he finds her?”

“I’ve already made arrangements,” James said firmly. “She has the safest apartment…just a few meters from the pack house. It’s heavily guarded.”

Aiden blinked, disbelief flashing across his face. “Wait! What?! You got her an apartment?”

James nodded.

The next second, Aiden’s fist connected with his nose. Blood sputed instantly.

James stumbled back, clutching his face. “What the hell was that for?”

Aiden’s chest rose and fell violently, his eyes burning with a mixture of tage, jealousy, and fear.
