“What’s this for?” James asked, wincing as he wiped the blood from his nose.

“For giving her a new apartment,” Aiden snapped, his voice low and dangerous. “It’s still dangerous for her to be out there while Dante is roaming free. You’re supposed to be my Beta, but lately, you seem more like her Beta than mine.”

“You sound just like your father,” James muttered, pulling out a Handkerchief and dabbing at his nose.

Aiden scoffed bitterly.

“You’ve punched me five times this week. I’ve lost count at this point.”

“You’re being an asshole, so…” Aiden muttered.

James rolled his eyes. “She trusted me, Aiden. That’s why she came here in the first place. She wanted to leave…i couldn’t force her to stay.”

“You should have come to me first,” Aiden growled. “I’m the Alpha. I make the decision about where she stays.”

“Amelia is not your puppet,” James shot back sharply. “You can’t control her life. Stop this madness already! You lost her, Aiden. Accept it. Move on.”

The words hit like claws, and Aiden’s fury flared. His fist shot out again, slamming into James’s face, sending him staggering.

“Punching me isn’t going to change the truth,” James groaned, clutching his jaw.

“You’re supposed to be my Beta and helping me,” Aiden snapped “Instead, you’re undermining me.”

“You think I haven’t sacrificed for you?” James’s voice cracked, raw emotion spilling out. “I lost her because of you! When she asked me to choose between you and her, I chose you. Don’t you dare question my loyalty!”

Aiden froze, confused. His glare softened with dawning realization. “You’re… talking about Tracy?”

James’s eyes darkened.

“I thought you cheated on her,” Aiden said, disbelief in his tone.

“Well, not everyone is like you, Aiden,” James shot back. “I don’t betray the women I love.”

Aiden swallowed hard, shame tightening his chest.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because you were already drowning in guilt. I didn’t want to add more to it,” James muttered, collapsing onto the couch. His hand pressed against his swollen nose, his eyes clouded with something deeper than pain.

Aiden stood rooted, guilt twisting through him. Slowly, he sat beside his Beta, studying the blood on his knuckles before glancing away.

“You should have told me.”

“And what difference would it have made?” James asked bitterly

Aiden sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I’m sorry you had to choose me over her. I know how much you loved Tracy. How badly you wanted her as your wife.”

James’s voice dropped to a whisper, heavy with loss. “I still lover. I always will. But I love you too, Aiden. You’re not just

Aiden’s throat tightened. He managed a small smile, patting James’s shoulder. Silence lingered between them, heavy but comforting in its own way. Finally, Aiden stood.

“Where are you going?” James asked warily.

“To Amelia’s. I have to protect her.”

“She needs space, Aiden. You should give her that.”

“Not while her life is still in danger,” Aiden said firmly, before storming out of the house.

James exhaled a long, tired sigh and slumped deeper into the couch. His thoughts drifted to Tracy…her smile, her laughter. the ache of her absence. He still searched for her every day, pulling every contact, every favor. He just prayed she was safe… and happy, wherever she might be.

Meanwhile, Cassia’s car pulled to a stop in front of the new apartment. She stared out at the building, her gaze sharp, calculating. The place was beautiful…safe, guarded but her chest till felt heavy.

“Mommy, this place looks beautiful!” Arthur chirped excitedly.

Cassia forced a small smile. “Yeah, it does.”

“But… I like Alpha Aiden’s house better,” Arthur added innocently

Cassia bit the inside of her cheek, her heart lurching as memories of earlier flashed in her mind, the way Aiden had held her. the way his touch had unraveled her defenses, the moment he almost kissed her. Worse still, how much she had wanted him

She pressed a trembling hand against her chest, inhaling deeply

“Mommy, are you okay?” Arthur asked, his small brows furrowed

“Yeah, I’m fine,” she said softly, summoning a smile before grabbing their luggage. Together, they walked into the apartment.

“Mommy, is Ethan going to be fine?” Arthur asked quietly as they climbed the stairs.

Cassia hummed, avoiding his eyes.

“You’re going to treat him, right?” he pressed.

Another hum. She forced her tone brighter. “Come on, let’s get your room and mine arranged. Then I’ll make dinner”

Arthur nodded eagerly, dropping the subject.

An hour later, the rooms were settled, and both had bathed. Arthur had gone first, left in his room with his toys, while Cassia dressed in a simple, elegant gown. When she emerged, she colleged him and took him downstairs.

Arthur sat on the kitchen counter, chattering as Cassia moved about preparing dinner. Soon, the aroma of food filled the air. and she carried dishes to the table.

Just as they were about to eat, the sound of a car engine purred utside.

Arthur’s eyes lit up instantly. “It’s Alpha Aiden!” he exclaimed.

Cassia stiffened. “Why do you think it’s him?”

“I memorized the sound of his car,” Arthur said proudly.

“I’ll check,” she said quickly, walking over. Her heart thudded in her chest as she opened the door, revealing Aiden. standing tall in a sleek black suit, his brown eyes locking onto hers with that familiar intensity.

“Amelia,” he murmured. “I’m sorry to come unannounced. I just. I wanted us to talk.”

Her throat tightened. She cast a quick glance back into the house.Arthur was watching, waiting. She turned back, her voice dropping to a whisper.

“There’s nothing for us to talk about, Aiden.”

“Please. You can’t stay here, it’s too dangerous for you and Arthu Dante is still out there-”

“I can take care of myself. And my son,” she cut in, her voice sharp, cold. “We’ll be fine without you. Just leave.”

And with that, she shut the door firmly in his face.

She turned, forcing her features into calmness as she faced Arthur.

“Was it Alpha Aiden?” he asked eagerly.

Cassia smiled faintly, shaking her head. “No. Just a neighbor. She wanted to welcome us, but I told her it was too late. She’ll come back tomorrow.”

Arthur’s shoulders slumped, disappointment heavy in his voice. Oh… I thought it was Alpha Aiden.”

Cassia swallowed hard, her heart aching at the sadness in his tone.
