“Yes,” she snapped, though her voice trembled. “Just come. Stop sking questions…unless you’d rather stay out here alone…”

Aiden gave a small nod and followed her. She pushed the front door open and stepped inside. He lingered a moment at the threshold, like a man weighing if he even deserved to cross, before finally entering.

Cassia shut the door, leaning against it for half a second to catch her breath. Both of them were soaked, rainwater dripping from their hair, their clothes clinging to their skin.

Her apartment was small…just two rooms. As much as she wanted him to dry off in Arthur’s room, she couldn’t risk disturbing her son. He had already had a stressful day. That left her with one choice she wasn’t ready to face: her own room. She wasn’t going to allow him in her room: Never!

She escaped upstairs quickly, changed into something dry, and grabbed a towel before returning. Aiden was still standing in the middle of the living room, water running down his body. He was starting to shiver, his lips almost blue.

“You should take those clothes off,” she said. “They’re making you cold.”

His eyes lifted to hers, sharp and unreadable, glistening with something she couldn’t name.

“Are you sure you want me to remove my clothes?” he asked, his one low, almost testing her.

Cassia frowned. “Aiden, do you prefer shivering yourself into pneumonia? Why do you keep asking me if I’m sure? Just take them off.” Her irritation barely hid her unease.

“I… I just don’t want to do anything that will make you angry,” he admitted, his voice stripped bare of pride.

The words made her pause. Guilt flickered through her chest. He wasn’t being stubborn; he was being careful, like a man afraid of breaking fragile glass.

Their eyes locked, and slowly, deliberately, he peeled his shirt off. His chest…hard, sculpted, and bronzed with strength. gleamed under the dim light. Cassia’s throat tightened, her eyes betraying her as they lingered longer than they should. She swallowed hard and tore her gaze away.

He moved on to his trousers, fingers unbuttoning them. Cassia’s eyes widened.

“What are you doing?” Her voice jumped, betraying her racing heartbeat.

He looked up, puzzled. “What?”

“Why are you removing your trousers?”

“They’re wet too,” he answered calmly, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. “I thought of removing them. If you want, I can keep them on.”

Of course he was right. They were soaked through. But her min had gone somewhere else entirely the moment she saw his hands at his waistband. She cursed herself silently.

“You can… take it off,” she muttered, turning her back quickly.

A smirk tugged at his lips as he watched her wet hair glisten und the light. He slid out of his trousers, water dripping to the

floor.

Aiden was standing bare before her, his powerful frame utterly hidden. His thick and almost hardened length, already stirring, hung free. The sight sent a cold shiver racing down her spine, heat crawling across her skin. She bit her lip without meaning to.

Their gazes collided….his, wide-eyed and strangely innocent; her, wild and conflicted. She spun around, pressing her palms to her eyes.

“What is wrong with you, Aiden?” she snapped, her voice breaking. Her pulse thundered in her ears.

“What?” he asked, genuine confusion etched in his tone.

“What do you think you’re doing? Trying to seduce me?”

“How? You told me to take them off.”

“I didn’t say go naked in front of me! Goddess!, don’t tell me you’ve been walking around all day without underwear with that thing dangling under your trousers?”

He blinked, startled, then quickly grabbed something from the pile of clothes. “What? No… I had underwear. I’ll put it on now.”

She groaned, exasperated, while he tugged them on.

“Here,” she said tightly, thrusting the towel at him. “Cover yourself.”

He wrapped it around his waist obediently, then said gently, “I’m done. You can open your eyes now.”

Cassia hesitated, then lowered her hands and finally turned. Relief washed over her at the sight of him covered, but the image of what she had seen lingered, seared into her mind.

“I’m sorry,” he murmured, his voice sincere.

She waved him off quickly, scooping up his wet clothes. “I’ll dry these.”

She carried his clothes upstairs to the laundry room. The moment she shut the door behind her, she slumped against it, pressing her trembling hand to her chest. Her heart raced, uneven and loud.

What is wrong with you, Cassia? she asked herself, biting her lips the scent of Aiden clung to her, wrapping around her senses. The intoxicating mix of rain, musk, and his wolf essencelled her nose, making her heartbeat thunder faster than normal. Heat shot through her body and, to her horror, she felter nipples harden beneath her gown.

I’m not even close to him…so why am I perceiving his scent this tensely? she thought, her eyes darting down. That was when she realized she was holding his clothes too close to herself almost clutching them like a lifeline.

She exhaled shakily, forcing herself to pull away. Quickly, she shoved the clothes into the machine, washed them, and set them to dry. When they were done, she hung them neatly on the hanger.

Her gaze lingered on the clothes longer than she wanted. Memories flooded in on how many times had she done this before in the past? How many mornings had she made sure his suit was pressed and perfect before he left for duty? How many times had she fussed over his collars, over his ties, like a true Laa? But still he left her.

Her throat tightened. She shook her head sharply, trying to push away the wave of emotions threatening to drown her.

Why am I even thinking of him? Why did I let him in? Why am helping him, washing and drying his clothes like before?
