Chapter 118
Meanwhile, Aiden’s car screeched to a halt in front of the hospital. He shoved the door open and strode inside, his shoulders tense, his jaw locked. His steps carried him down the hallway until he reached Ethan’s ward.
James was already there, standing guard.
“Hey, man. Where have you been?” James asked, eyeing him.
“Amelia’s…”
James raised a brow. “Did you spend the night at her house?”
“Yeah…” Aiden muttered, his voice low, almost defensive.
James blinked in surprise, but before he could push further, Aiden cut in. “How’s Ethan?” He pushed the door open and stepped inside.
The sight before him made his chest clench. His little boy lay pale and fragile on the bed, machines surrounding him, keeping his breaths steady. Ethan looked drained, as if life itself was slipping from him. Aiden’s throat tightened as he pulled a chair closer and sat by his son’s side, his hand hovering, almost afraid to touch him.
James studied him quietly. He knew how deeply Aiden loved Ethan. Even though he’d never truly loved Sofia, Aiden had stayed for Ethan. To protect him, to give him a home. And now, the same child lay here because of Sofia’s betrayal. Poisoned by his own mother.
“No improvement yet,” James finally said, his voice heavy. “The doctors are still searching for a blood donor that matches his. He has less than twenty-four hours left.”
Aiden’s head shot up, confusion etching across his face. “What donor?”
“I mean… blood donor,” James replied carefully.
“I know what you mean,” Aiden snapped. “I’m asking why they’re still looking. I gave them my blood yesterday for the transfusion. Why haven’t they done it yet?”
James stiffened. “You did? I had no idea. Maybe we should speak with the doctor…”
Before Aiden could storm out, the door opened and Nurse Mira stepped inside.
“Perfect timing,” Aiden said sharply, rising to his full height. “I want to speak with the doctor about my son’s blood transfusion.”
“We’re still searching for a donor, Alpha,” Nurse Mira answered, her voice low. “Ethan has a rare blood type. Only a relative can match him.”
Aiden’s eyes narrowed. “I’m aware of that. That’s why I gave my blood yesterday.”
The nurse swallowed hard, her eyes flickering nervously.
“I think you should speak with Doctor Cassia instead…” she murmured.
Aiden studied her carefully. Something was off. He could read the tension in her body, the fear lacing her words. She was hiding something.
“What’s the problem, Nurse Mira?” James asked, suspicion in his one.
“I can’t… Doctor Cassia asked me not to say anything,” she whispered.
Aiden’s aura flared, his voice dropping to a dangerous growl. “In your Alpha. I order you to speak. Now”
Tears welled in his eyes, blurring Ethan’s fragile face. He clenched his fists so tightly the veins on his arms bulged, his forehead taut with rage, betrayal, and grief colliding all at once. He wanted to scream. To tear this whole hospital apart. But one look at Ethan’s still chest, at the frail rise and fall of his breathing, kept him rooted.
“Hey, man… it’s alright,” James said softly, placing a firm hand on his shoulder.
Aiden dragged a hand down his face, shaking, as the tears spilled despite his effort to hold them back.
Cassia. She had known. She had spent the night beside him, shang warmth, but never spoke. She had hidden it from him.
His thoughts spun darker…Sofia. His so-called wife and Luna. She had betrayed him for years, and he hadn’t seen it. Who was Ethan’s real father? Dante? The thought clawed at him, venous, but he pushed it away before it consumed him whole.
Seven years. Seven years of sacrifice and lies.
His chest heaved again as he whispered, broken, “I gave up everything for them”
James’s voice broke the silence. “What are you going to do now!
Aiden’s gaze remained fixed on Ethan. The boy he still couldn’t op loving, no matter the truth
“Call our contacts. See if anyone outside the pack can donate blood for him,” Aiden said at last, his voice steady but stripped of all warmth.
James blinked, surprised. He had expected fury, rejection, abandonment. Not this. Not Aiden still fighting to save Ethan.
“And… the real father?” James asked carefully.
Aiden didn’t answer. He only stared at Ethan for a long, silent moment, then turned and walked out of the ward, his steps heavy with unspoken rage.
