Chapter 119
Cassia slid into the driver’s seat, fastening her belt. Arthur was already in the back, strapped in with his seat belt, his small hands clutching his backpack. She gave him a reassuring smile through the rearview mirror before starting the engine.
First stop: his school. After dropping him off with a kiss on the forehead and a reminder to behave, she sat alone in the car for a moment, exhaling deeply.
Her hand slipped into her handbag, pulling out a small folded piece of paper which had the address Sofia had given her. She unfolded it, staring at the inked scrawl. A sigh escaped her lips.
“Let’s see if you were telling the truth for once, Sofia…” she muttered.
Igniting the engine again, Cassia drove off. Minutes later, she parked in front of a small, quiet apartment. The place looked too still, too untouched like no one had truly lived there.
She stepped out, her heels clicking against the ground as she approached the door. Knocking once. Silence. She knocked again. Nothing. She was about to leave when the door creaked open, revealing an older woman, somewhere in her fifties, her face stern and questioning.
Cassia raised her brows. Is this even the right place?
“Hello, ma’am. Sorry to disturb you. I’m looking for Dante Colby
The woman frowned as though she had never heard the name.
“I don’t know any Dante Colby. My husband and I just moved in last week.”
“Oh…” Cassia murmured, forcing a smile. “I see. My apologies.”
Turning swiftly, she walked back to her car. Sliding inside, she tossed the piece of paper onto the passenger seat with a scoff.
“She gave me the wrong address. Of course she did. Why did I een trust her?” she muttered, her grip tightening on the wheel.
Frustration flared, but she drew in a breath, steadying herself, then started the car and headed back toward the hospital.
When she pulled into the hospital’s parking garage, Cassia grabbed her bag and got out. She had just reached to lock the door when a sound behind her froze her blood. Footsteps. Heavy Deliberate.
She turned slightly, catching a reflection in her dark window gla…someone was standing behind her. A man. And the cold steel of a gun was now pressing against her forehead.
Her chest tightened.
“I heard you were looking for me,” the man said, his voice a deep cold rasp
Cassia’s stomach dropped. The voice was unmistakable. She turned slowly, her eyes locking on his face.
“Dante Colby,” she breathed.
And just like that, there was no doubt. Ethan’s eyes. Ethan’s features. The resemblance was uncanny, undeniable. Her lips pressed into a hard line as hatred flooded her. Memories hit hetke a kuite, his attack, his gun pressed to her stomach, the command to make her “last wish.”
She despised him.
“You planning to kill me now?” she asked, her tone cold, controlled.
What kind of woman are you? he thought, dazed.
Cassia’s voice sharpened, filled with venom. “As much as I want you dead, Dante, I have plans for you. Killing you now would mean Ethan dies.”
His eyes narrowed. “What does Ethan have to do with me? He’s Aiden’s son. He can rot for all I care.”
Cassia’s gaze hardened. “No. He’s your son. And he’s dying. Sofia poisoned him. Without a blood transfusion, he has less than twenty hours left to live”
The gun lowered slightly as shock registered on his face. He frog, staring at her as if the ground had fallen from beneath him
Cassia’s words were sharp, a promise carved in steel. “When Eth recovers, when he’s safe, I will hunt you down myself. And I’ll make you pay for everything”
She turned on her heel and walked toward the hospital doors, leaving him frozen in disbelief.
Inside, her composure cracked. She pressed her hand against he chest, sucking in a shaky breath Her legs trembled family For a second, she had thought he would kill her
“Where did I even get the courage.” she whispered to herself, shaking her head
Pushing forward, she walked down the hallway toward her officer steps faltered when she spotted someone storming toward her
Fury radiated from him like fire. His eyes blazed, his aura cracking with rage. She had never seen hirm this furious before.
“We need to talk, Amelia,” he said, his voice low and dangerous.
