Chapter 123
Meanwhile, Sofia sat alone in the cold interrogation room, her wrists bound tightly in heavy iron cuffs that clinked against the table every time she moved. The chains weighed down on her, biting into her skin, a constant reminder of her sins.
She had been dragged out of her cell once more and told that someone wanted to see her. And in her mind, there was only one person it could be. Amelia.
Maybe she had found Dante. Maybe the blood transfusion had been done. Maybe… maybe her son was safe.
Sofia’s breath hitched, and she closed her eyes, whispering a brief prayer for Ethan. Today was the day Aiden would pass judgment. And with everything she had done, every crime staining her hands….she knew the punishment was only one thing: death.
She wasn’t ready. Not yet. She wasn’t ready to leave the world, to leave her son. Tears burned in her eyes, spilling freely down her cheeks.
The door creaked open.
Her heart lurched, panic flooding her veins. Quickly, she lifted her hands to wipe her tears, forcing composure back into her trembling body. Pain shot through her wrists from the cuffs, but she forced herself to drop her hands, pretending strength she did not feel.
“Sofia…”
The sound of that voice froze her blood. For a moment, she thought she was hallucinating, her desperate mind conjuring the one man she longed for. But when she turned, her breath caught.
Dante stood in the doorway.
He held a wig in his hand….a disguise. He must have slipped into the red watch house as someone else, just to reach her.
“Dante…” she whispered, voice cracking. Tears gathered in her eyes again, but this time they were born of relief and terror all at once. She struggled to her feet, dragging herself painfully toward him.
But Dante raised a hand, stopping her in her tracks. His fist clenched at his side, his eyes burning with rage. Sofia’s heart dropped. She knew that look.
He’s spoken to Amelia. He knew. And he was furious.
“Is it true?” Dante’s voice shook, though his anger trembled beneath it.
“Dante…”
“Don’t you dare say my name!” he barked, and the venom in his one made her flinch. “Tell me the truth… Ethan. Is he my son?”
Her knees weakened under his fury. She wanted to lie, to deny it but her lips trembled and betrayed her
“Yes…” she choked out. “It’s true.”
Tears welled in Dante’s eyes, but he quickly wiped them away with the back of his hand, his jaw clenched so tightly a muscle jumped.
“How could you keep that from me?” His voice cracked with rag “Seven years, Softa! You kept my son away from me and handed him to another man! You stole time from me, memories and moments that should have been mine!”
“Dante, I’m sorry…” Her voice was hoarse, weak.
Her words broke into sobs, and Dante’s heart shattered. He rose, pulling her into his arms. His hands stroked her back, trying to soothe her trembling body.
“I don’t want to die, Dante,” she whispered into his chest, her voie so small, so broken, that something inside him split apart.
He tilted her chin up, his fingers tracing the bruises and cuts on her face. His thumb brushed over her torn lip, pressing lightly. She winced, and blood welled against his skin. Without hesitation, he brought it to his mouth, tasting her pain, her essence, like a vow. Sofia’s breath caught, her wide eyes locked on him.
Then he leaned down, pressing soft kisses across her tear-stained cheeks.
“I will not let them take you from me,” he murmured, voice hard with resolve.
Her eyes widened. “What… what do you mean?”
“I’ll break you out.”
Shock flashed across her face. “What? That’s impossible, Dantel his is Blood Watch. No one has ever escaped them. It’s the most guarded place in Red Moon Pack.”
A slow, dangerous smile curled his lips. “Who said anything abo escaping under Blood Watch’s nose? Just trust me, Sofia”
He kissed her lips, then her forehead with finality, scaling his promise.
“I have to take care of our son first. But I swear… I will come back for you”
