Cassia moved to the window and peeked through the curtain. Her stomach dropped, it was truly Aiden’s car.

Her brows knitted. What is he doing here? That man had nearly died only hours ago. If they hadn’t gotten him into the theatre room in time to remove the silver bullet before it melted into his bloodstream, he would have been gone.

She hurried to the door, pulled it open, and stepped outside.

Aiden climbed out of the car, his face etched with strain. He let out a low groan as he shut the door, his hand pressing hard against his stomach. His body stiffened as pain seared through him, but when his gaze lifted and locked onto hers, he forced himself upright, dropping his hand as if nothing was wrong.

Cassia froze where she stood, speechless. Her wolf stirred inside her, excitement sparking like wildfire at the sight of him. She swallowed hard, pushing the feeling down, forcing herself to breathe.

“Aiden…” Her voice was softer than she wanted it to be.

seyes softened instantly. “Amelia.”

He took a step toward her, though every movement sent pain burning through his body. It felt like fire tearing through his veins, but still he straightened, forcing himself to look strong before her.

“What are you doing here, Aiden?” Cassia demanded, her voice steady even though her chest was tight. “You’re supposed to be in the hospital.”

He blinked, sighing heavily. “You didn’t return with James. I was worried. I came to protect you. Dante is still out there with Sofia, and they might come after you and Arthur.”

Her lips parted, but no words came. Their eyes locked, and the silence between them throbbed with something she couldn’t

name.

“You’re injured,” she finally managed. “You were barely alive hours ago. And even if Sofia and Dante were to come, how do you intend to fight them like this?”

“I swear I’m okay, Amelia. Look…I’m fully healed. I don’t feel any pain.”

She scoffed, crossing her arms. He was lying, pretending, just like always. If she hadn’t seen him wince and groan moments ago, she might have believed him.

“Really? No pain?” she asked, raising a brow.

He nodded firmly.

Cassia stepped closer, sudden mischief flickering in her eyes. Without warning, she jabbed her fist lightly against his chest.

He groaned instantly, stumbling back, doubling over for a moment.

“Okay, maybe… maybe I still feel it a little,” he muttered, trying to straighten.

Cassia sighed. “You need to go back to the hospital. I can take care of myself and Arthur. I have my wolf back now…I can protect us.” Her voice wavered at the end, her heartbeat racing, er wolf spinning with excitement she didn’t want to acknowledge.

“I know,” Aiden said softly. “But let me protect you anyway. Pleas

Something in his tone cracked through her defenses. She should have snapped, should have told him to leave. But instead, her chest softened, warmth spreading through her despite hersel

“But you need rest,” she whispered. “The poison from the silver Bullet and wolfsbane, it’s still in your system.”

He stepped closer. Her pupils dilated, her pulse thundered.

“Being near you is already making me heal,” he murmured.

Her lips parted. The heat between them sparked alive, electric, dangerous. His scent wrapped around her, pulling her in. For one terrifying second, she thought she might let him kiss her again.

But then, she blinked hard, forcing herself back to reality. She stepped away, breaking the tension.

“You can come inside,” she muttered, turning and walking off, leaving him standing there.

Inside, Cassia pressed a hand to her chest, drawing in shaky breaths. You hate him. He rejected you. The kiss meant nothing.

“Are you okay?” Aiden’s voice came from behind as he entered, closing the door.

“Yeah.” Her reply was short, her gaze avoiding his.

“I’ll get you a duvet and a pillow so you can sleep on the couch,” she added, her tone clipped, edged with anger.

Aiden frowned. He could hear it, the sharpness in her voice. Something had shifted. She had been warm outside, and now she was ice. He wondered what he had done wrong this time.

“Amelia,” he called, stopping her as she tried to walk away.

She froze. Slowly, she turned back. Her eyes no longer soft, they were cold, brimming with fury.

“Thank you,” he said quietly. “For saving my life.”

Her lips curled into a mocking smile. “I was only doing my job as a doctor.”

Aiden offered a small, pained smile. “Did I do something wrong

The calmness in his voice only fueled her anger. That softness, i chipped at her walls, and she hated it.

“What do you mean?” she asked, voice sharp.

“I mean…. earlier, you weren’t mad. Now you are. Maybe I said something wrong. Maybe I did something. Whatever it is… you can tell me.”

Cassia let out a harsh laugh. “You’re right. I am mad. Mad that you’re here. What do you really want, Aiden? You can’t just show up, acting protective, acting like you care.” Her fists clenched at her sides, her chest heaving.

“Amelia, I want you,” he said, his voice breaking. “I know you’re angry. I’m sorry for everything. But I want to fix it. You heard Sofia’s confession, I never slept with her. She lied. She made me believe you were the villain.”

Cassia laughed bitterly. “Fix things? You don’t expect me to just forgive you because Sofia finally confessed. The fact that you believed her in the first place, that you rejected me… that’s something I’ll never forgive.”

“Amelia, I-”

“I already told you. There’s nothing between us. I’ve moved on you should too.” Her voice trembled, but her glare was sharp.

Pain flickered in his eyes, but he refused to let go.

“But… we kissed in your office. You kissed me back.”

His voice grew desperate. “What about the kiss in the theatre? When you thought I was dying. Don’t deny it. I felt it, Amelia. You felt it too. After that, something happened…you know it did

Cassia’s jaw clenched. He was right. But she would never admit

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Aiden. I feel nothing for you. Nothing!”

With that, she spun on her heels and stormed off, leaving him repted, broken.

He almost went after her, but then….pain ripped through his stomach. He doubled over, lifting his shirt to reveal the wound reopening, blood seeping fresh and dark.
