Aiden moved toward the door, frustration burning in his chest. He needed answers. But when his eyes landed on the scene before him, the air left his lungs.
Cassia.
Damien.
Their lips pressed together.
Aiden froze, then rage exploded through him like wildfire. His fits clenched, jaw locking tight as his wolf snarled inside, the sound rumbling in his chest. Every instinct screamed at him to rip Damien apart, to tear out his throat for daring to touch what was his.
Amelia was his.
How dare Damien lay a hand on her? How dare he kiss her…right in front of him?
The guttural growl broke from his throat before he could stop it
Damien pulled away instantly, Cassia still caught between them, her chest rising and falling as if she couldn’t breathe. Damien’s head snapped up, and his gaze collided with the man he loathed most in the world.
Aiden stood there, wearing an apron, eyes burning with unrestrained fury.
“… Aiden.” Damien’s voice carried a dangerous edge, surprise tangled with hatred. Memories of their last brutal fight flashed in his mind, reigniting the rage he had carried for years. His own growl vibrated low in his chest.
“Damien Blackwood,” Aiden spat, his claws sliding out, sharp and ready.
Cassia turned quickly, panic flaring across her features as she saw them both….their wolves already threatening to tear free. She stepped between them, her hands raised, voice shaking.
“Stop! Both of you!”
Damien’s eyes narrowed, never leaving Aiden. “What the hell are you doing here?” His voice was sharp, accusing
Aiden let out a cold laugh, though his eyes remained hard. “That should be my question. What are you doing in my pack?”
Damien’s lips curled back into a snarl. “Amelia and Arthur are n family. I have every right to be here with them. You, on the other hand… why are you in this house?”
Before Aiden could answer, Cassia cut in quickly, desperation in her voice. “He came to help me with something. That’s all He was just about to leave.”
She turned her head slightly, eyes locking on Aiden, silently begging him to play along and leave.
Aiden’s chest heaved as anger battled heartbreak inside him. Bucher gaze pinned him down, leaving him no choice. He exhaled sharply, jaw still tight. “Yeah. She’s right. I was leaving.”
He tore off the apron and shoved it at Cassia, his eyes glistening with barely suppressed pain His gaze lingered on her for one last, shattering second, then flicked toward Damien, cold and final Without another word, he strode past them and walked out.
Outside, Aiden leaned against his car, gasping for air as though as lungs had forgotten how to function. His chest rose and fell in sharp, uneven bursts. His vision blurred as though he was about to go blind.

Seeing her…his Amelia…kiss Damien had been like a death blow is wolf howled inside, clawing at him, demanding he fight for her. His hands trembled as rage and despair churned together, threatening to rip him apart.
Last night had given him hope. The kiss they had shared had fel real, undeniable. For a moment, he believed they had found their way back to each other. And now this? His hope was nothing but ashes.
He closed his eyes, breathing hard, forcing himself to focus. But the pain wouldn’t ease. It wrapped around him like a chain. suffocating, and crushing.
Finally, with a raw curse, he slid into the car and slammed the door shut. The engine roared to life, and without a second glance at the house, he sped away.
Back inside, Damien turned on Cassia, fury sparking in his eyes.
“I didn’t buy that excuse. What the hell was Aiden Miller doing here? Did he spend the night?” His fists clenched at his sides. knuckles cracking.
Cassia’s throat tightened. She forced herself to meet his gaze. “Yes. He did.”
The words struck Damien like a slap. His nostrils flared. “And what then? Did you share a bed with him?” His voice was raw, steeped in jealousy, his wolf pressing against his skin.
Her eyes widened. “What? No! Of course not. Damien, listen…so much happened while you were gone. Aiden was just… there when I needed help.” She bit down on her lower lip, trying to steady the wild reaction of her body. His scent, the magnetic pull of the mate bond, threatened to unravel her completely.
Damien’s gaze sharpened. “Explain. What exactly do you mean by ‘a lot happened”?”
Before she could answer, small footsteps pattered across the floor.
“Uncle Damien!”
Arthur’s voice rang with pure joy as he bolted into the room, his little face lighting up. He leapt straight into Damien’s arms.
Damien’s rage softened instantly. He caught Arthur easily, laughing as he hugged him close. “My boy! I missed you so much. How have you been?”
“I missed you too, Uncle Damien!” Arthur beamed, hugging him tightly. “Mommy didn’t tell me you’d be back today.”
“That’s because I didn’t tell her either,” Damien said with a grin, shooting Cassia a look that made her stomach twist. “I wanted to surprise her.”
Arthur grinned wider, tugging Damien toward the dining table. Come eat with us! We were just having breakfast.”
Damien set him down on a chair, ruffling his hair affectionately. Alright then. I’ll join.”
He served himself quickly, taking a spoonful of soup. His brows fted. “Mmm. This is delicious. Cassia, did you make this?”
Arthur piped up before Cassia could speak. “Nope! Mommy did. Alpha Aiden did! He woke up early to help Mommy. cooked breakfast, and even cleaned the kitchen!”
The spoon froze halfway to Damien’s mouth. His jaw tightened his gaze slid toward Cassia. The smile he wore earlier was gone, replaced by an icy glare.
Arthur kept chattering, oblivious to the storm brewing. “He’s be really good to us since the fire. He even let us stay in his house for days. And… oh! The other night, when I had a nightmare, he and Mommy stayed beside me until I fell asleep. He didn’t even wear a shirt because the rain soaked it!”
Cassia’s stomach dropped, her hand curling into a fist under the able. “Arthur…” she warned softly.

But the boy didn’t notice. He paused only when he glanced around and realized Aiden wasn’t there.
“Wait….Mommy, where’s Alpha Aiden?”
“He left,” she said quickly, voice tight.
“Oh. He didn’t tell me goodbye. Will he come back?” Arthur asked innocently, his wide eyes shining with hope.
Cassia faltered, her lips parting but no answer coming. “I don’t know, Arthur.”
The tension in the air was suffocating.

With a sharp scrape of wood against the floor, Damien shoved back his chair and stood. His face was rigid, his eyes blazing with restrained fury.
Without a word, he turned and stalked toward the stairs.
Cassia closed her eyes briefly, dragging her hands through her hair. Her teeth sank into her bottom lip.
She had seen the look on his face. There would be no peace after this. War was coming.
