A smile flashed across Damien’s face. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer until their bodies brushed. His fingers brushed a strand of hair from her face, lingering on her cheek, his thumb stroking her skin with reverence. He leaned in to kiss her but then suddenly froze, her earlier words echoing in his mind like a thunderclap.
“You’ve gotten your wolf back?” he asked, needing to be sure he’d heard her right.
Cassia nodded, and for a heartbeat his world stilled. He wanted to ask how…wanted to demand every detail… but none of that mattered. All that mattered was she had her wolf back. She knew they were mates now, and nothing stood between them anymore.
A slow smile spread across his lips. “That’s a good thing. No…it’s the best thing. We should be celebrating…”
Cassia’s lips curved, her chest rising with a shaky breath.
“You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting for this day,” Damien continued, his voice thick with emotion. “For you to know we’re mates. I love you so much, Cassia. I knew it the very first day I laid eyes on you.”
Her throat tightened. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I didn’t want to rush you,” he admitted, brushing her cheek again. “You were pregnant then… I didn’t want to overwhelm you. I wanted to give you space and time to heal from your past
Her brows furrowed. “So you waited seven years for me to regain my wolf? Seven years is a long time, Damien. What if I never regained her?”
He held her gaze, steady and unwavering. “Then I would have waited still. Ten years. Twenty. A lifetime if I had to. You were worth every second.”
Her chest ached at the sincerity in his eyes. Tears blurred her vision. She didn’t deserve this man, not when lies weighed heavy on her heart. Guilt clawed at her, threatening to spill the truth she’d been holding back.
“Damien, there’s something else I haven’t told you….” Her voice trembled.
He shook his head gently, pressing a finger to her lips. “It doesn’t matter. None of it matters when I’m with you. You and Arthur…that’s all that matters. You’re my world.” His voice broke lightly before he gathered himself.
“Cassia,” he said, his throat working as he swallowed hard, “I’ve never felt this way about anyone. With you, I’m complete. I don’t want to rush you, but-” He paused, eyes searching hers, fear flickering behind his confidence. His fingers trembled slightly as if he was holding back the very thing his heart screamed to say.
“In as much as I want us to get married right this second, I want take this step the right way. I want us to grow even more. Cassia.” His voice dropped, raw and tender. “But… I want to marry you.”
Her breath hitched. Her heart thudded violently in her chest, he palms damp with sweat. Every nerve in her body went taut, realization slamming into her. He’s about to propose.
His lips pressed together as if steadying himself. Then, with deligerate slowness, he slid a hand into his pocket. A small velvet box appeared in his hand as he sank to one knee.
Cassia gasped, her hand flying to her mouth.
“You are the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with,” Danien said, voice trembling yet strong, every word carrying the weight of his devotion. He opened the box, revealing a silvering that glimmered under the soft light. “Will you marry me, Cassia Wrenmoor?”
She staggered a step back, her chest tightening. Her heart warre between yes and no, between fear and certainty. This was forever. This was everything. Could she take this step again without shattering?

But then her gaze fell on him…kneeling before her, eyes glistening with unshed tears, his fear barely concealed. He was terrified she would say no. This strong man, her mate, was vulnerable before her.
“Cassia, if you don’t want to… it’s fine,” he whispered, his voice breaking into a nervous smile. “I’m not rushing you. You can think about it. Whenever you’re ready, I’ll be here, waiting. Always.”
Her lips quivered. “Yes…”
Damien’s head snapped up, his brows furrowing as though he thought he’d misheard. His heart hammered so wildly it hurt.
“Yes,” she repeated, her voice stronger this time, tears streaming down her cheeks. “I will marry you. I will marry you.”
Damien exhaled a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding, His body sagging in relief. His smile split wide as he slid the ring onto her trembling finger, his hands brushing against hers with tenderness. Then he rose, pulling her into his arms and kissing her with a heat that ignited every part of her.
When they broke apart, he pressed his forehead to hers, whispering a raw, tear-choked “thank you.”
Cassia smiled, her chest heavy and light all at once, and hugged him tightly. But when she pulled away, her lips trembled.
“Uhm, I need to get dressed for work and drop Arthur at school. We’ll find the right time to tell him the news. He’ll be so excited…” she said, biting her lip to keep herself steady.
“Of course,” Damien said softly. “I’ll help him get ready. And I’m coming with you to the hospital. I’m back now, Cassia. You don’t have to carry everything alone. We’ll figure it all out…together. As one.”
She nodded quickly, her throat tight, watching him walk out of the room.
The moment the door clicked shut, her legs buckled. She slid down until her back hit the wood, her chest heaving as if she’d run miles. Her hands clutched her head, tears streaming silently
Her heart thundered in her ears, a painful rhythm that echoed the torment inside her.
“What have I done?” she whispered into the empty room.
