“What have I done?” she whispered, the words slipping past her ps before she could hold them back.
Her heart was a storm inside her chest. The weight of the ring of her finger felt heavier than gold…like a promise forged from lies. She didn’t know how to feel about the sudden proposal, about saying yes without even thinking. Her wolf shifted restlessly beneath her skin; she could sense its excitement, but it wasn’t the same kind of excitement she used to feel around Aiden. No matter how much she tried, her mind couldn’t shake the memory of that kiss.
She wondered if her wolf had a favorite mate… If such a thing were even possible. But it didn’t matter. She had made her choice. She had chosen Damien. She would marry him.
Still, her stomach knotted with guilt. Her mind flashed back to the lie she had told him, the truth she had hidden. If Damien ever found out, she would be finished.
Meanwhile, Aiden’s car rolled to a stop in front of the hospital. He climbed out, his face carved in stone, and strode inside. His boots echoed on the tile floor as he went straight to Ethan’s ward…only to find James standing outside, phone pressed to
his ear.
Aiden’s eyes darkened. Anger and sadness warred in his expression. James already knew what the problem was. Damien was back.
“What’s wrong?” James asked, his tone laced with concern.
“How’s Ethan?” Aiden shot back, ignoring the question entirely.
James sighed, lowering his phone. “He’s stable now, but he’s still unconscious. Dante donated his blood to him yesterday when we were at the Blood Watch…”
Aiden’s jaw tightened, his fists curling. “That son of a bitch! I’ll kill him myself,” he growled, voice low and deadly.
“Are you angry because Dante donated his blood… or because Damien is back in town?” James asked quietly.
Aiden turned, eyes flashing at the question, shocked James knew
“He called me. I gave him the new address,” James admitted.
Just as expected, Aiden lunged forward, swinging at James. James sidestepped, narrowly dodging the punch.
“I knew you’d try to punch me again,” James muttered dryly.
Aiden glared.
“Well, her husband’s back,” James said, shrugging. “You should back down now. Leave her alone.”
“I’m not backing down just because Damien came back to Red Moon Pack,” Aiden snarled. “Amelia is mine. I know she feels the same way.”
“You’re being delusional, Aiden.”
Aiden’s memory flashed… Cassia’s lips on his, the electricity of the kiss. It had felt real. Too real. Was he being delusional, or did she still love him? Either way, he wasn’t about to give her up Even if it meant fighting Damien.
“You okay?” James asked, but Aiden’s deadly glare was the only answer
“Like you care. You are supposed to be on my side, James” Aider snapped. “You know what? You’re dismissed as my Beta. You’re no longer needed.”

James exhaled slowly. “Ah, finally. I’m free. But before I go, you need to know…Sofia’s dead body was found downtown this morning.”
“What?” Aiden’s voice dropped to a stunned whisper.
“Yes. The body was brought to the morgue this morning. Turns out the same bullet used on you was found in her body.” James explained.
Aiden turned sharply, his anger now tinged with something darker. “You’re saying Dante killed her?”
“It’s not impossible,” James replied.
“Why would he break her out just to kill her?”
“I think that’s something we’re never going to know…” James muttered.
“Well, good. At least Sofia’s out of the picture now. We just have to find Dante,” Aiden said, voice steely.
“I don’t think so,” James murmured, eyes shifting to Ethan’s ward
“Ethan is going to ask for his mommy when he wakes up. What do you plan on telling him? In his state, he needs her more than ever.”
Aiden’s lips parted, but no words came.
“We’ll figure it out when the time comes,” he muttered finally.
“Maybe you’ll have to get married again. To someone else,” James said with a shrug.
“Am-”
“To someone who isn’t Amelia,” James cut him off quickly.
“It’s Amelia I want.”
“She’s taken.”
“I don’t care. That won’t stop me from getting her back,” Aiden growled.
James rolled his eyes and turned to walk away.
“Where are you going?” Aiden barked.
“Anywhere you’re not. Besides, you relieved me of my duty as your Beta,” James replied.
Aiden smirked tightly. “Bad news for you, James. You’re stuck with me forever.” He turned and disappeared into Ethan’s ward.
James sighed, rubbing his temples.
Meanwhile, Cassia had gotten dressed for work. Damien had heed Arthur into his school uniform. Now, they were seated in the car, Damien driving them to school.
“Have a nice day at school, Arthur,” Damien said softly as Cassia epped out of the car with her son
“Yeah. Thank you, Uncle Damien,” Arthur said with a wide grin.
“You wait in the car. I’ll be back soon,” Cassia told Damien, then walked Arthur inside.

Chapter 141
As they neared Arthur’s classroom, Arthur glanced up at her.
“Mom, is there something you want to tell me?” he asked, his vote oddly steady for a child.
Cassia blinked at him, thrown. “What do you mean?”
“You know what I mean, Mom. The diamond ring on your finge
Cassia froze mid-step. Her eyes darted from Arthur to the glittering ring.
“How did you even notice?” she whispered.
“Well, in case you haven’t noticed, it’s shining bright enough to catch anyone’s eye,” Arthur replied.
Cassia sighed. “Damien gave it to me. He proposed. I said yes.”
Arthur folded his arms, staring straight at her. “So…. when were you planning to tell me?”
“When you come home from school. During dinner. But now you already know,” she said quietly.
Arthur didn’t respond. He just kept staring.

“What? Why are you looking at me like I made a bad decision? Ihought you liked Uncle Damien. I thought you wanted me to marry him.”
“I do like Uncle Damien,” Arthur said softly. “I’m just worried about you and Alpha Aiden.”
Cassia’s brows shot up. “What do you mean, Alpha Aiden?”
“I mean… I thought you liked him too,” Arthur said. “The two of ou seem… pretty into each other. Like you’re in love.”
Cassia swallowed hard, her heart hammering.
