“I mean, I thought you liked him too. The both of you seem prey into each other.. in love, even,” Arthur muttered, his words quiet but sharp, like a truth he wasn’t supposed to say.
Cassia’s lips parted, her chest tightening, “Oh my God, Arthur!” he exclaimed, almost screaming, as if his words had pierced straight into the part of her she had been trying so hard to bury
“Mom!” he called back, shrugging with the innocence only a chi could have, though his eyes were far too knowing for his
age.
Cassia exhaled, shaking her head as she tried to mask the turmo twisting in her stomach. “I don’t know what to do with you, Arthur. Honestly, I don’t know where you get your information from.” She pressed his lunchbox into his hands, her voice softening. “Come on, go to class now.” She leaned down, kissed his forehead, and gave him a shaky smile.
“Bye, Mom,” Arthur said, waving with a grin before heading down the hallway. She stood there, watching until his small frame vanished into the classroom.
The smile slipped from her face. Running her fingers through her dark hair, she let out a long, uneven breath. Where does Arthur get these things from? she thought, her chest rising and falling too fast. She didn’t look like she was into Aiden, and she certainly wasn’t in love with him. No…she hated him. That was the lie she had convinced herself to believe.
Her sigh echoed sofily down the empty hallway as she walked out of the school and toward the parking garage. Sliding into the car, she found Damien already waiting, his eyes flicking to hers immediately.
“Are you alright? What took you so long?” he asked, his voice calm but threaded with concern.
“I’m fine,” Cassia replied too quickly. “I just dropped him directly in his classroom.”
Damien smiled gently and reached over, his warm hand squeezing hers. “If anything is bothering you, you can tell me.”
She nodded, forcing a small smile. “I know.”
He started the engine, and they pulled out of the lot. The drive the hospital was swallowed in silence, though not an empty one. Cassia’s mind churned with Arthur’s words, echoing louder with every passing second. You liked him too… in love with him.
It wasn’t true. It couldn’t be. She wasn’t into Aiden, and she was in love with him. She felt nothing for him…she repeated the mantra again and again like a shield. But the more she tried to deny it, the more her chest burned.
What if Arthur is right? she thought, fingers sliding up to comb nervously through her hair. She still thought about Aiden… about the kiss they had shared, the way fire had ignited in her vens, raw and uncontrollable. He was right. She had felt it. Something undeniable. Something dangerous.
Cassia shook her head hard, forcing the thoughts away just as Dnien’s voice pulled her back. “We’re here.”
She blinked, startled, then turned to him with a smile. “Thank you.”
“You sure you’re okay?” Damien asked again, his eyes searchinger face.
“Yeah,” she said softly as she unbuckled her seatbelt and stepped out of the car.
Damien followed, locking the doors behind them. “Are you sure you want to be here? You just got back to Red Moon Pack You should be resting”
“I know,” Damien said, brushing it off. “But I’m not tired. I’m ok
She nodded, accepting his answer, and together they walked into the hospital.

Inside Ethan’s ward, Aiden sat by the boy’s bedside, gently stroking his hair. His gaze lingered on the small face, so peaceful in sleep, and the ache in his chest deepened. He still couldn’t believe Ethan wasn’t his son. Sofia had lied to him, deceived him in the cruelest way.
But no matter what the truth was, his love wouldn’t falter. Ethan would always be his son. His heir.
Please wake up soon, Ethan, he thought, his thumb brushing sofly through the boy’s hair.
The door creaked open, pulling his attention. Aiden looked up and his eyes hardened instantly when he saw his father step inside.
“Aiden,” Alaric said, voice low.
Aiden only stared.
“I see you’re well and healed,” Alaric continued, his tone sharp with suspicion. “For someone who was shot with ten silver bullets laced with wolfsbane, you’ve recovered far too quickly.”
“You’re forgetting I’m an Alpha, Dad,” Aiden said coldly.
Alaric’s eyes narrowed. “I’m well aware. But even an Alpha shouldn’t have survived that. That was a near-death sentence. By all accounts, you should be dead.”
Aiden’s jaw clenched. “Amelia saved me my life.”
Alaric’s lips curled. “As always….Amelia, Amelia, Amelia. Since she came back, your life has been nothing but chaos. She is the root of this misery. I wouldn’t be surprised if she killed Sofia herself and left her body on the roadside.”
Aiden growled, eyes flashing. “Amelia would never kill anyone. And Sofia… she had it coming. I don’t know who killed her. but I won’t mourn her.”
“And Ethan?” Alaric pressed.
“He’s my son.”
“He’s not your son!” Alaric snapped, his voice shaking with fury. He’s not your blood, not a Miller. You need a real heir. Aiden. You’re not getting younger.”
“I won’t throw Ethan away,” Aiden spat. “He’s my boy. He’s alway been mine, and he’ll remain my heir.”
“I would rather die,” Alaric snarled, “than let another man’s son inherit our bloodline. The next Alpha must be born from your blood, our blood.”
Aiden scoffed. “I don’t have another son.”
“Maybe you do.”
Aiden’s eyes narrowed, confusion flashing across his face. “What do you mean?”
Alaric leaned closer, voice sharp. “That boy. Amelia’s son. What his name? Arcade?”
“Arthur,” Aiden corrected through clenched teeth.
“Yes, Arthur,” Alaric said with certainty. “Look at him closely. The resemblance is undeniable. He’s the splitting image of you, Aiden. I see your younger self in him.”
Aiden’s chest tightened. “Amelia said he isn’t mine.”
“And you’re going to believe her?” Alaric sneered. “That woman as lied about everything claiming to be a doctor, hiding

secrets, dangling false hope of a cure. She lies with every breath.
“Dad, enough,” Aiden snapped.
“Or what? You’ll chop my head off?” Alaric retorted, smirking.
Aiden’s fists clenched. “Why are you even pushing this, if you hate her so much?”

“Because my hatred has nothing to do with our lineage. You will conduct a DNA test with that boy. And you’ll see I’m right.”
“And if he’s not?” Aiden growled.
“Then something is very wrong. Because I know he is yours,” Alaric said firmly, his eyes blazing.
Aiden glared back, silent, his chest heaving.
“Dad-”
“Well, if he’s not yours,” Alaric cut him off, his voice like steel, “then you’ll have to marry again and give this pack a true heir.”
