“Well, if he’s not yours, then you’ll have to get married again and give this pack a true heir!” Alaric snapped, his tone sharp and commanding. Aiden’s mouth fell open, disbelief etched across his face.

“What? I’m not getting married again to any woman I don’t know.” Aiden said firmly, his voice edged with defiance.

Alaric scoffed, lips twisting. “Oh, so that means you’ll marry someone you do know then?”

“No, Dad! You’re not listening. I’m telling you I will not marry any woman that isn’t Amelia,” Aiden growled, his chest rising and falling rapidly.

“You’re out of your mind, Aiden. I’m not giving you a choice. In ve days’ time I will bring you a new wife. You will marry her, and you will get her pregnant, so she can give you an heir….the next Alpha!”

“Dad!” Aiden roared, his voice vibrating with fury. “I will not marry any woman you bring into the picture! I cannot be with a woman I do not love. I made that mistake once, and I will not make the same mistake twice.”

“Fuck love, Aiden!” Alaric spat, eyes narrowing. “I didn’t marry the woman I truly loved, yet I birthed you!”

Aiden’s lips curled into a bitter smirk. “Oh, so you were once in love. At least now I know you’re capable of it. Tell me, who was she? Who managed to pierce through that dark heart of yours? Let me guess…she left you because you were you, and you’ll always be you.”

Alaric’s fists clenched tightly at his sides, knuckles turning white as memories he had long buried clawed to the surface. For a moment, a shadow crossed his face, but he quickly forced it away, his jaw locking.

“Love will only destroy you, Aiden,” Alaric bit out, his voice dangerously low. “Look at yourself…you’ve become a miserable Alpha because of Amelia. You’ve grown weak, sick with longing for her. I didn’t allow myself to become like you. I cut love out of me before it ruined me. I got rid of her. And you will do the same with Amelia. Or I will take matters into my own hands. So help me God.” His words ended with a low, primal growl.

Aiden’s eyes blazed, his wolf pushing at the surface. “You won’t dare, Father. Because if you do, I will personally hand you over to the Blood Watch. They’re still furious over their men who died, and they want blood. Do you know how fitting it would be to spill your blood instead? The blood of an Alpha who has long overstayed his welcome?”

Alaric trembled inwardly at his son’s threat, but he kept his shoulders squared, hiding the fear clawing inside him. His stare was steady, unyielding, though the tremor in his hands betrayed him.

“I will not stand here and let you threaten me. I am still your father, and my word still stands. You will get married again, and you will get rid of Amelia!” Alaric barked, before storming out of the ward.

Once outside, his composure cracked. His hand lifted slowly, trembling as he stared down at it. Every word Aiden had spoken rang with deadly truth. His son had meant every threat, very promise. Curling his shaky hand into a tight fist, Alaric whispered to himself, It’s high time Amelia and I had a talk…alone. With that, he set his steps toward Amelia’s office.

Meanwhile, in Cassia’s office, she pushed the door open with Damien at her side. She placed her bag gently on the chair and slid into her seat, flipping open her laptop. The glow of the screen reflected in her tired eyes.

“Any progress on the disease?” Damien asked, shrugging on his white doctor’s coat. His voice was grave. “Most of the patients are stable, but not fully healed. If the cure isn’t found soon, they von’t survive much longer.”

“I know,” Cassia said softly, her fingers pausing on the keyboardhen she lifted her gaze to his, determination flashing there. “And I found out what it is…and how to cure it.”

Damien froze, instantly alert. He pulled out a chair and sat across from her, eyes narrowing in focus. “Tell me.”

“I studied the symptoms, every single detail. It’s Veylora,” she sa, the name heavy on her tongue.

Damien leaned in, voice rough with urgency. “Have you told Aiden and the council? Is there a cure?”

Cassia shook her head. “Not yet. But I found the cure too.”

At that very moment, Alpha Alaric’s hand gripped the knob outside the door. He was about to enter when he heard their voices. Curious, he opened the door slightly and peered inside through the crack. His eyes widened at the sight of Damien Blackwood and Amelia together.

I thought Damien was out of town? Alaric thought bitterly. Good If he’s back, then he can keep his wife tethered. She’ll stay away from my son.

He was about to leave when Cassia’s next words froze him in plage.

“I found the cure.”

Alaric’s entire body stilled. His chest rose sharply as he carefully closed the door, his heart pounding. She found it… he thought, retreating quietly.

Back inside, Damien’s voice grew sharper. “If you’ve found the cure, why haven’t you released it yet?”

“Aurevra Serum,” Cassia whispered, her tone both reverent and grim. “That’s the name. But it’s created from Dawnfire Blossom…a rare flower that only blooms at sunrise after a full moon. The full moon is only days away. Until then. I can’t make it. And when I do…” her eyes darkened with resolve, “I won’t give it out. Not until I find my family.”

Damien exhaled slowly, studying her with both admiration and sorrow. “I’m glad you found it. I knew you would. You always do.”

Her lips curved into a sad smile, her thoughts drifting to her mother. Was she alive? Safe? Well? The ache in her chest grew sharper.

“We’ll find your mom, Cassia,” Damien said, his voice steady with promise. He reached across and laid his hand over hers. She gave him a small smile in return, the warmth of his touch steadying her.

She rose to her feet, sliding her white doctor’s jacket on with renewed determination. “I’ll go check on my patients now,” she said, heading for the door.

Damien followed soon after, making his way toward the reception desk for patient files. But as he passed by, hushed voices drifted to his ears….nurses gossiping. He hadn’t intended to eavesdrop, but the words caught him off guard.

“Did you hear the news? Luna Sofia is dead…”

“I heard too. Poor woman. But I also heard the child she gave the Alpha wasn’t his,” another nurse whispered.

“Really?”

“Yes. A DNA test was done. Doctor Cassia asked Nurse Mira to run it.”

“Gods… so if Sofia’s dead and Alpha Aiden is childless and single maybe I have a chance with him.”

The other nurse snorted. “In your dreams. Everyone can see he loves Doctor Cassia. He’ll marry her instead.”

“Why do you think that?”

“Because of the way he looks at her. You weren’t there the day the Alpha got shot and was brought in for surgery… Doctor Cassia fought to save him with everything she had. She cried for him. And when all hope seemed lost…she kissed him. And he woke up. I think her kiss brought him back.”

The words sank heavy into the air. Damien stiffened, lists tighteng at his side.
