Meanwhile, Aiden was seen walking out of Cassia’s office, his face drained, his eyes hollow, carrying the sadness of a man who had lost everything. His expression looked like the life had been bled out of him, leaving nothing but despair.
He could feel his wolf clawing violently inside him, screaming, demanding he go back, take back those words, and tell her the truth…tell her how much he loved her, how desperately he wanted her, how much he longed to claim her, to make her his, to mark her as his mate for eternity. And yet, as much as his heart ached to do it, she had chosen Damien. She had made her decision, and now he was forced to live with the pain of it for the rest of his life.
A lifetime of regret. A lifetime knowing he was the cause of all this.
If he hadn’t hurt her in the first place, if he hadn’t broken her, none of this would have happened. His chest tightened with guilt as he walked down the hallway, his footsteps heavy. That was when he saw James walking towards him, a file in one hand and a phone pressed to his ear.
James instantly froze when he saw Aiden’s state. “I’ll call you back” he muttered quickly into the phone before hanging up. His eyes narrowed as he studied his Alpha. Aiden looked like a mess.
“Are you okay?” James asked carefully.
Aiden bit his lip, his jaw tightening as he took a sharp breath, glaring off to the side before answering. “Amelia lied to me. James. She told me she was married to Damien… when all this time, she wasn’t. It was just a lie to keep me away from her. If I had known-” his voice broke, trembling with rage and sorrow, if I had known she wasn’t, I wouldn’t have held back. I would have done the necessary. I would have claimed her, marked her, before that bastard Damien ever came back!”
Guilt flickered across James’s face. He knew the truth too. He had kept it from Aiden all this time. His chest tightened with shame as he let out a deep sigh.
Aiden raked a hand through his hair and forced a bitter laugh. “argued with Amelia… and she told me she’s going to marry Damien. That she chose him. And you know what I did?” His voice broke again. “I told her good luck.” The words carried pain so sharp it was as if every fiber of his being had been shredded.
James’s eyes softened, but his words were quiet, hesitant. “Does that mean you’re giving up on her already?”
Aiden snapped his head up, glaring. “What? No! Never! Even on my deathbed. James, I would still fight for her.” His voice cracked, raw and desperate.
James didn’t respond immediately, just stared at him.
“What? Don’t give me that look!” Aiden growled, his hands clenching into fists. “I know I hurt her. I know I destroyed her trust. But I love her, James… I love her with everything I have left His voice shook, trembling with a truth that tore hun
apart.
Before James could speak, his phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out, his heart skipping a beat when he saw the caller ID It was David-the private investigator he had hired to search or Tracy. His pulse quickened as he answered.

When the car finally came to a screeching halt, they had arrived at the address David had sent. James’s breath caught in his throat as he climbed out of the car, Aiden right beside him.
They entered the house, David already waiting by the door. His face was tense as he gestured inside.
“She’s over there,” he said quietly.
James’s steps slowed as his eyes fell on her. Tracy. She was sitting slumped on a couch, her hair tangled and messy, her clothes torn at the edges. Scars and bruises marred her skin, evidence of torment she had endured. James’s heart clenched painfully.
He turned sharply to David. “Did you hurt her?”
David’s eyes widened. “What? No! I swear I didn’t. I found her like this.”
James’s eyes narrowed, his wolf prowling under his skin, but before he could question further, a weak voice cut through the
air.
“James…”
His head snapped back. Tracy’s head had turned, her gaze meeting his. The moment their eyes locked, electricity surged through him. His wolf roared inside. Mate.
Tears filled Tracy’s eyes as she stood shakily, her body trembling She wanted to run into his arms, to cling to him, but fear held her back. She had been the one to break his heart years ago What if he hated her now?
James’s chest heaved as he stared at her in shock, disbelief, and aching longing. Slowly, he stepped forward. And then. unable to hold back, he closed the distance and pulled her into his arms.
Her scent overwhelmed him. Familiar. Home. His eyes burned with tears as he clutched her tightly. He thought he’d never see her again. He had imagined her gone, living happily in another pack, far away. But seeing her now, broken, suffering. It made everything inside him shattered.
Tracy melted into his embrace, her hands gripping him tightly. The moment his arms wrapped around her, the pain and scars she carried seemed to fade, replaced by a healing warmth only his presence could give. She hadn’t realized how badly she needed this. How much she had missed him.
James pulled back slightly, his hands trembling as he caressed her face, brushing strands of hair away. He pulled her close again, pressing his forehead against hers, his voice breaking. “I thought I would never see you again…”
Tears streamed down her cheeks.
“What happened to you?” he whispered, his voice raw.
“I was kidnapped,” she breathed out, her voice trembling
James froze. Aiden, who had been standing silently at the door, ffened in shock.
“What?” James muttered, his voice cracking.
“What do you mean you were kidnapped? Who did this to your iden asked sharply, stepping closer.
“I… I don’t know,” Tracy said, her voice breaking as more tears spilled. “I was leaving Evelyn’s house after a visit… and then five masked men stormed in. They took us all” Her voice shook holently. “Beta Greg he tried to fight them. But they shot
him with a silver bullet.”

This wasn’t random. Amelia’s parents hadn’t simply gone missing. They had been taken and he hadn’t realized it until now!
But by who? And why?
The question hung heavy in the air.
