Aiden and James stared at each other, realization hitting them beth like a cold wave. This meant Amelia’s parents hadn’t just gone missing…someone had taken them. But who would do such a thing? And why would anyone want them dead? The question burned in Aiden’s mind like fire.
“How did David find you?” Aiden asked sharply, his tone demanding answers.
Tracy’s eyes flicked to him, narrowing slightly before shifting toward James.
“I managed to escape,” she finally said, her voice low and hoarse.
Aiden raised a brow, suspicion flashing across his eyes. “How did you escape?”
Tracy bit her inner lip and glared at him again before turning to James.
“Enough of all these questions, Aiden!” James cut in firmly. “Can you see her state? She needs rest. When she’s fully healed and settled, then we’ll ask her everything we need to know.”
James turned back to Tracy, his expression softening. He reached for her hand gently. “Come on,” he said quietly. She nodded weakly, and he led her out of the room.
Aiden stood there, watching them until they disappeared from sight. He exhaled heavily, the tension in his shoulders refusing to ease. He felt something wasn’t right. He turned toward David, his eyes cold, and without another word, he walked out of the room.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Cassia sat in her office, staring blankly at the wall. Her mind refused to stop replaying Aiden’s words… Marry me, not him.
Those words echoed in her head like a curse. She had felt something when he said them… something she couldn’t explain. It wasn’t just longing… it was a pull. A force she didn’t want to acknowledge.
Her chest tightened as she pressed a trembling hand against it. Her heartbeat was faster than usual, erratic, betraying the calm expression she tried to maintain.
She bit her lip and shook her head, whispering under her breath “I need to stop thinking about him already. I’m getting married to Damien. I chose Damien.”
She pulled out her phone and dialed Damien’s number, but he didn’t answer. She sighed, guilt twisting in her stomach. She had asked him to leave her office earlier and of course, he was angry. But she needed to talk to him, to explain, to make things right.
Pushing out of her chair, she walked out of the office and down the hallway, scanning the area for him. She spotted him just outside, talking with a nurse.
“Damien,” she called softly.
He stopped mid-sentence and turned toward her. The nurse hoed politely before excusing herself.
Cassia’s eyes met his, and her breath hitched. The look in his eyes was unreadable…calm, restrained, but she could feel the storm brewing underneath.
“Damien, I know you’re mad at me, and-”
“I’m not mad at you, Cassia,” he interrupted, his tone quiet but ged with pain. “I’m mad at myself… for not seeing the truth in front of me.”
Cassia frowned, confusion flickering across her face. “What do you mean?”

He took a slow breath, his eyes never leaving hers. “You know exactly what I mean. Aiden was right. It’s him you love. I still don’t understand how you can love a man who’s hurt you in so many ways that one can’t even count.” His voice trembled, a mix of anger and heartbreak. “It’s a mystery to me, honestly.”
Cassia bit her lip, her voice barely above a whisper. “But I don’t love him, Damien. I hate him.”
“Stop lying to me!” he yelled before he could stop himself.
Cassia flinched, eyes closing tightly. The echo of his voice hung Heavy between them.
The rage in Damien’s eyes flickered out almost immediately, replaced by regret. He took a shaky breath. “I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to yell at you.”
Cassia forced a small, brittle smile. She could feel the stares from a few nurses nearby, their curious eyes darting toward them.
“Can we talk in my office?” she said quietly.
Damien hesitated for a moment, but then nodded. As she turned and walked ahead, he followed silently, his footsteps slow and heavy. He didn’t want to go back there, but he couldn’t say no to her.
When they reached her office, Cassia walked in first, and Damien followed, shutting the door behind them. The sound echoed sharply in the quiet room.
Cassia turned around to face him. Their eyes locked. The tension was thick enough to choke on. Her scent filled the air. mingling with his…their wolves reacting instantly, growling, yearning. The heat between them was undeniable.
Damien was the first to speak. His voice was low, trembling with hurt. “I know about the kisses, Cassia. You lied to me..you said it was once, but it was three times. Once in your office, when you regained your wolf. The other in the surgery room. And the last one… in your apartment.”
Cassia’s lips parted in shock. Her stomach twisted as realization it. “How did you-”
“Aiden told me,” he cut her off, his voice tight.
Cassia’s throat went dry. Her words died before they reached her lips. She could see the pain in Damien’s eyes. The betrayal. the disbelief, the way his love for her clashed with his anger. He waited for her to say something, anything. But she couldn’t.
“Everything he said was true, wasn’t it?” Damien’s voice cracked lightly. “You still have feelings for him, right?”
“Damien…” she tried to reach for him, but he stepped back sharply.
“Don’t.” His tone was sharp, broken. “Don’t touch me and make me forget everything, because I can’t. I won’t. Tell me the truth, Cassia…do you still have feelings for him?”
Cassia’s eyes blurred with tears. Her lips trembled, but no words came out. Because the truth was right there she did still have feelings for Aiden. And that truth was too cruel to admit o loud.
Damien stared at her in silence, the seconds stretching painfully ong. Her silence was answer enough. His chest rose and fell rapidly, his wolf growling under his skin.
“Of course,” he whispered bitterly. “You still love him.”
“Damien, I love you,” Cassia said quickly, her voice breaking as se stepped closer. “I chose you, not Aiden.” She reached for his hands, her touch warm against his skin.
A shiver ran down his spine at her touch, her scent, her closenes but he clenched his fists, resisting the pull.
“What’s the point of choosing me,” he asked quietly, “when you can’t get him out of your head? You didn’t choose me

He shook his head, cutting her off. “Aiden will always be the man you love. He was your first love. He’s the father of your son.” His voice wavered, breaking slightly. “And me…” He paused pain twisting through him as he slowly pulled his hands. free from hers.
“I don’t want to force you into something you don’t want. If we’re going to be together, you have to want me as much as I want you.”
He stared at her for a long moment, his eyes dark and conflicted One more look, one more word from her, and he knew he would crumble. He looked away instead, exhaling shakily, and turned toward the door.
Without another word, he walked out, the door shutting behind him with a dull thud.
Cassia stood frozen for a moment before her knees gave way. She sank to the floor, her hand covering her mouth as the tears finally broke free.
The sound of her quiet sobs filled the empty room.
