It was evening, and Cassia had gone to pick up Arthur from school alone. Damien had left before her, and she didn’t know where he went. She had been trying to reach him for hours, but his number wasn’t going through-neither was it connecting. Worry twisted deep inside her chest, tightening with every unanswered call. She knew she had hurt his feelings. and now all she wanted was to make things right.

She wanted him. She wanted Damien as much as he wanted her Who wouldn’t want a man like him? He was everything Aiden wasn’t. A man who would never trample on her heart. A man who would put her first…above everything and everyone. else. Damien stood by her when she had nothing but ashes left of herself. He gave her hope when she had none. He knew they were mates from the very first day they met but never told her, choosing instead to wait.

He waited seven years-for her to heal, to regain her wolf, to finally feel the mate bond herself. And this was how she repaid him? Guilt gnawed at her chest like claws sinking deep. She felt selfish. How could she still love Aiden after all he had done to her? Her love was supposed to belong to Damien alone.

She exhaled shakily and ran her fingers through her hair, pushing it away from her face.

“Mommy! Mommy!” Arthur’s sudden scream jolted her back to reality. Cassia’s eyes widened when she realized she was seconds away from driving into a trailer. Her life…and her son’s lashed before her eyes. She swerved sharply, the tires screeching as she veered off the road and came to a rough stop.

“Oh my God!” she gasped, breath trembling. “Arthur, I’m so sorry! Are you okay? Were you hurt?” Her voice broke as she reached over, frantically checking his little body.

“Yeah, Mom, I’m okay. But what about you?” Arthur’s small brows furrowed. “You seemed lost while driving..”

Cassia forced a weak smile. “Yeah, I’m okay, Arthur.”

But Arthur wasn’t convinced. He studied her face, the way her hands trembled against the steering wheel.

“Is it about Uncle Damien’s proposal?” he asked softly. “I like him for you, Mommy. He makes you happy… and he’d never hurt you.”

Cassia turned to him, surprise flickering in her eyes. “And you? How do you feel about me saying yes to him?”

Arthur grinned, his innocence cutting through her fog of guilt. ve always liked Uncle Damien. He’s been like a father to me since I was a baby. I love him and I know you love him too.”

Cassia’s heart squeezed. She hesitated before asking, “And Alpha Aiden?”

Arthur blinked. “What about Alpha Aiden?”

They both glared at each other..

“I mean…. do you love him too?” He asked quietly.

Cassia froze, staring at her son….his brown eyes, the shape of his jaw, his expression all tiny reflections of Aiden. No matter how hard she tried, there was no escaping that man. Aiden lived every breath she took, every heartbeat that pulsed through her child.

“Let’s go home, Arthur. It’s getting late,” she whispered, ignoring his question

Arthur nodded without another word.

Cassia started the engine again and drove the rest of the way home in silence. Once there, she prepared dinner, fed Arthur. and tucked him into bed. The house felt too quiet afterward, to hollow.

She sat at the dining table, waiting for Damien It was past ten, and he still hadn’t returned. The food had gone cold. Her

“Where are you, Damien?” she whispered, her voice trembling. Rear coiled inside her stomach. Had he gone back to Velaris? No… he wouldn’t. Damien would never leave her and Arthur, not even when he was angry. He loved them…she was sure of it.

Her throat burned as she tried to hold the tears back, but the pain was too much. She buried her face in her hands and sobbed quietly, covering her mouth so her son wouldn’t hear her

Then came a knock at the door.

Cassia’s heart leapt. She shot to her feet, rushing toward the door adrenaline surging through her veins. She yanked it open. expecting Damien-

–but froze.

Standing there was the one man she least expected.

Aiden Miller.

Disappointment clouded her features instantly. “What do you want, Aiden?” she snapped. “Don’t you understand the meaning of stay away from me?”

“Amelia…” His voice was low, rough, desperate.

She started to close the door, but his hand shot out, stopping it halfway.

“I can’t stay away from you,” he said, his voice breaking slightly.

“I already told you I chose Damien!” she hissed. “And you told me good luck, remember? So what are you doing here?”

He took a breath, his eyes dark and intense. “I came to take back those words. I don’t wish you good luck with Damien. Because I still want you.”

Her heart twisted painfully. For a moment, her eyes softened-but just as quickly, she steeled herself again. “Well, I don’t want you,” she said coldly and tried to shut the door once more.

Aiden caught it again.

Her palm flew before she could stop herself…smack! The sound echoed through the room. His head jerked to the side, a red mark forming on his cheek.

He didn’t move. Didn’t flinch. Just stared at her with eyes full of forment.

“You can hit me all you want,” he said hoarsely. “I know I deserve it. But it won’t stop me from wanting you. It won’t stop my heart from loving you, Amelia.”

Her breath hitched. The room felt suffocating. Her pulse thundered in her ears as heat coiled through her veins like wildfire

“Why can’t you just leave me alone?” she whispered, voice trembang. Her eyes glistened with tears she fought to hide She wanted to forget him, to crase him completely, but how could sh, when he kept showing up? When he made her heart ache just by saying her namet

“I can’t,” he breathed. “I’ve tried, Amelia Goddess knows I’ve tri But I can’t”

He stepped closer.

“You’re the air I breathe” he said, his voice raw “You’re the only woman who’s ever captured my heart completely. You made me fall so deeply that I can’t find my way out. I burn for you. Amcha You make me feel alive and insane, all at once.”
