inking of cutlery echoing through the quiet house. The making the moment feel almost peaceful. Almost.
He’d picked Arthur up from school earlier that evening after Cassia asked him to, and now he watched the little boy eat in silence, his tiny fork moving slowly through his plate.
Arthur looked up suddenly, his big brown eyes blinking innocently. “Where did Mommy say she was going?” he asked.
Damien smiled faintly. “To see an old friend. Someone she has seen in a long time who just came back to town.”
“Oh…” Arthur murmured, nodding thoughtfully. “That means it might take a while before she gets home, right?”
“Probably,” Damien replied, his voice calm though his mind was elsewhere.
The two of them fell into a comfortable silence, the only sound being the faint ticking of the wall clock. Then Arthur set his spoon down and looked up again, his expression curious.
“I know you proposed to my mommy,” he said suddenly.
Damien froze mid-bite, his fork suspended in the air. Then he gave a small, nervous chuckle. “Yeah… I did. I’m sorry we haven’t told you yet.”
Arthur smiled softly. “It’s fine.”
“You’re not upset?”
“No,” Arthur said simply, shaking his head. Then his eyes narrowed with a mix of childlike honesty and wisdom that seemed too mature for his age. “Do you really love my mommy?”
Damien’s lips curved into a faint smile as he leaned back in his chair. “Of course I do, Arthur. I’ve loved your mom long even before you were born. I still love her-and I love you, too.”
Arthur’s eyes softened. Deep down, he already knew Damien loved them both. But something about hearing him say it filled his chest with quiet warmth.
“My mommy loves you too,” Arthur said after a moment. “I just hope you don’t hurt her. Because if you do…” His lips quirked into a small grin. “I won’t hesitate to fight you. Even though you’re my uncle.”
Damien burst into laughter, the sound echoing across the dining room. “You’ve got your mother’s fire,” he said, amused. “And I promise, I won’t ever hurt her. Or you. I’ll protect both of you for as long as I live.”
Arthur smiled proudly, his little chest puffing out.
“So does that mean you approve of us getting married?” Damien asked playfully.
Arthur thought for a moment, then nodded. “Yeah, I do.”
Damien’s face lit up. His heart leapt with joy, the kind that filled his chest so full it almost hurt. “Thank you,” he said softly. “That means everything to me.”
He hesitated for a moment before adding, “Your mom and I de led to move the wedding up…. to next week.”
Arthur froze mid-breath, confusion flashing across his face. “Ne week?”
“Yes,” Damien said with a grin. “We don’t want to wait any longe It’s time we made it official.”

Arthur tilted his head, uncertainty flickering in his gaze. He thought his uncle Damien had just proposed-why the sudden rush? But then he sighed, deciding not to question it. “Well… thats good, I guess.”
“I know, right?” Damien smiled. “And then I’ll finally become your father.”
“Stepfather,” Arthur corrected quickly.
Damien chuckled. “Yeah. Stepfather.”
They shared a smile before silence settled again. The air was thick, the kind of silence that carried questions neither of them voiced. Then Arthur spoke again, his tone softer this time.
“What if my real father comes back?”
The question hit Damien like a blow to the chest. He blinked, his smile faltering. “What?”
Arthur’s gaze met his-innocent, yet piercing. “What if he comes back one day?”
Damien swallowed, forcing a calm smile. “I don’t think that’ll happen, Arthur.”
“Why not? He’s alive, isn’t he?”
Damien’s heart gave a small jolt. “Why do you think that? Do you know who your father is?” he asked carefully, searching the boy’s face.
Arthur bit his inner lip. Of course he knew who his father was. He’d figured it out long ago-the looks, the stories, the way his mother’s eyes always changed whenever Aiden’s name came up. But he couldn’t tell Damien he know, he could not let him know.
He shook his head. “I don’t know. I was just wondering.”
Damien exhaled slowly, relief flooding his chest. “Well,” he said after a moment, “I’ll be your father now. And I promise to always be there for you.”
He was about to say more when a sudden crack of thunder split the silence. The lights flickered briefly, and rain began to patter against the windows. Damien rose to his feet, frowning as he peered outside.
The sky had turned a deep shade of gray, the storm rolling in heavy and fast. Lightning flashed across the distance, followed by another rumble that shook the walls.
A muscle ticked in Damien’s jaw. Cassia hated thunder. He knew that better than anyone.
He picked up his phone immediately. “I’ll be right back, okay?”
Arthur nodded, pushing his chair back. “I’m going to bed now. Good night, Uncle Damien.”
“Good night, Arthur.”
Damien waited until he’d gone upstairs, then quickly dialed Cassa’s number. She answered on the third ring.
“Cassia, where are you?” he asked, pacing toward the window, “ve you seen Tracy yet? It’s about to rain hard-I’ll come get you.”
Cassia’s voice came through the line, calm and steady, though he could hear faint thunder in the background. “Damien, I’m fine. I’m already on my way to see her. Don’t worry, I’ll be okay might come home late, but I’m safe.”
“Cassia, it’s late. I can’t stay here knowing you’re out there alone this weather,” he said, frustration creeping into his voice.
Her eyes drifted toward Aiden, who sat beside her in the driver’s seat, his focus locked on the road ahead. When their eyes

met, her breath hitched. She quickly looked away, guilt and tension clawing at her chest.
“I’m not alone,” she said softly into the phone.
Damien’s brows furrowed. “What do you mean you’re not alone Who are you with?”

Cassia hesitated, her throat tightening. She couldn’t lie to him. Not again. But saying the truth-that she was with Aiden- would only ignite chaos she wasn’t ready for.
“Cassia?” Damien’s voice called through the line, snapping her back. “Who’s with you?”
“I’m with…”
The line went dead.
Damien frowned, pulling the phone away from his ear. “Cassia? Are you still there?” But there was no response. He stared at the screen and saw the call had ended. He redialed, but her number was suddenly switched off.
He cursed under his breath, running a hand through his hair in frustration. His chest tightened with worry. She’d said she was on her way to see Tracy-but if it wasn’t Tracy with her, ther who?
Just then, his phone buzzed again.
A message.
He unlocked it quickly, expecting it to be from Cassia. But instead, it was from an unknown number. No words-just images.
He hesitated, dread sinking in as he opened the file.
The first picture showed Aiden opening Cassia’s car door for her his hand brushing hers. The second-her inside the car, Aiden leaning close, their faces inches apart. Too close.
Damien’s entire body went rigid. His heart hammered in his chest, fury rising so hot it burned through his veins. His fists clenched until his knuckles turned white, claws threatening to break through his skin.
“Cassia…” he muttered under his breath, his voice trembling with a mix of rage and disbelief.
He slammed the phone down, grabbed his car keys, and stormed toward the door.
But just as he was about to step outside, a flash of lightning tore through the sky, followed by a violent roar of thunder. Rain came down in sheets, more heavier, pounding against the roof and windows.
He froze at the doorway, chest heaving, fury and helplessness sling within him. The storm was too wild-he couldn’t drive in this weather. Not without risking his life.
He clenched his jaw so tight the veins in his neck bulged. His het raced, his wolf clawing at his insides.
He was going to kill Aiden Miller.
If that man dared lay a hand on her-if he even breathed too close Damien would make sure he never saw another sunrise
