The rain had started as a whisper, soft and harmless against the windshield. Now, it poured like fury, drumming against the glass as if the sky itself was grieving.
Cassia sat stiffly in the passenger seat, her fingers tightening around her dead phone. She had wanted to call Damien back and tell him she was fine, that she wasn’t alone, but the screen had gone black minutes ago.
Her chest rose and fell in frustration as she tucked the phone back into her bag. The sound of thunder made her flinch. She hated storms. She always had.
Her gaze flickered toward Aiden, who was focused on the road ahead, his jaw sharp, his eyes hard. Even in the flicker of lightning, he looked effortlessly composed…too calm, too steady. It irritated her, how he could always look unbothered when her world felt like it was collapsing.
She turned away, watching the streaks of water racing each other down the window.
A flash of light split the sky. The answering thunder made her jump.
Aiden noticed. He always did. His knuckles flexed on the steering wheel before he reached out to touch her hand…a gentle brush meant to reassure her.
The contact was brief, but electric.
Cassia flinched like she’d been burned, jerking her hand away. Her pulse was wild in her throat.
“Are you okay?” Aiden asked softly, his deep voice grounding but edged with worry.
“I’m fine,” she said too quickly, her voice brittle.
But she wasn’t fine. She was trapped in a car with the one man she swore she would never love again-the man whose very scent made her heart ache and her wolf stir.
He was everything she wanted and everything she shouldn’t.
“Why is it taking so long to get to your house?” she asked, breaking the silence, her tone sharp.
“We’re close,” he replied, glancing at her. His voice was calm, but his grip on the steering wheel betrayed him…tense. strained.
“It feels like we’ve been driving forever.”
Before he could answer, the rain intensified, sheets of water hammering the windshield. The wipers fought uselessly against the storm as thunder cracked again-louder, closer, fierce enough to make the car tremble.
Traffic ahead slowed almost to a stop, so he turned onto the longer road to avoid the jam. The storm poured hard, making it difficult to see as the headlights blurred through the heavy rain
“Damn it,” Aiden muttered, casing his foot off the accelerator. “The storm’s getting worse.”
Cassia hugged herself, her nails digging into her arms. “I hate thunderstorms,” she whispered.
“I know,” Aiden said softly, his eyes flicking toward her “You’re le, Amelia I promise.”
But before she could reply, the car jolted violently
The engine sputtered once, then died completely.

Aiden cursed under his breath, twisting the key again. The only sound was the rain hammering the roof.
“No… no, no.”
Cassia’s eyes widened. “Please tell me this isn’t happening right now.”
He tried again. Nothing.
Her breath quickened. “What do we do now?”
He exhaled. “We stay calm.”
“Easy for you to say,” she muttered, fumbling for her bag. “We’ll just call for help.”
Her fingers dug through her purse, desperate, until she froze.
Her voice dropped, small and shaky. “My phone’s dead.”
Aiden reached for his pocket and his brows furrowed. “Mine’s not here. I… think I left it at the hospital.”
Cassia stared at him, disbelief and anger colliding in her chest. “You what?”
“I must’ve forgotten it—”

“How could you be so careless?” Her voice trembled, half from fear, half from the storm raging inside her. “How are we supposed to get help now?”
“Amelia,” he said gently, reaching out again. “You need to calm down-”
“Don’t tell me to calm down!” she snapped, her breathing erratic. Her chest felt tight. The air inside the car suddenly too thick, too hot. Panic clawed at her ribs.
“This is your fault!” she shouted, her voice cracking under the weight of her emotions.
Lightning flashed, illuminating her face-eyes glowing red, claws slipping out as her control began to shatter.
Aiden froze, his heart lurching. Her wolf.
“Amelia…” His voice was low, cautious. “Breathe. It’s the full moon tomorrow. You’re feeling the pull.”
But she wasn’t listening. The storm outside was nothing compared to the one inside her. She flung the car door open, stepping into the torrent of rain.
“Amelia!” Aiden shouted, throwing open his own door. The wind whipped his voice away as he ran toward her.
She was standing there in the middle of the storm, soaked to the bone, trembling-not from cold but from rage and confusion.
He reached her and tried to grab her arm. She spun, shoving him back. Her claws sliced through his skin-sharp, fast, and unintentional. He grunted in pain, blood mixing with rainwater
“Get away from me!” she screamed, her voice raw, cracking.
But Aiden didn’t back off. He surged forward, ignoring the sting his hand, and caught her wrists, pulling her against him.
Rain poured between them, their breaths harsh, eyes locked.
“What is wrong with you, Amelia?” His voice was thunder…rough and desperate.

Her head lifted, eyes blazing again before dimming as she gasped for air. Her body trembled. The rage began to fade. replaced by tears that streamed down her face, lost in the rain.
Aiden’s expression softened instantly. “Amelia…” His tone was broken now, pleading. “Talk to me. What’s happening? What’s wrong?”
She stared at him, chest heaving, vision blurring through tears. Every scar he’d left on her heart reopened in that moment.
Her lips trembled as she whispered, almost to herself, “You.”
He frowned. “What?”
“You,” she said louder, stepping back as her voice cracked. “You are what’s wrong.”
Her next words tore through the storm, fierce and shaking.
“You are everything that’s wrong with me!”
Aiden froze, the words hitting him harder than any wound could
And between them, the rain kept falling-cold, relentless, unforgiving.
