The rain had stopped, leaving behind the earthy scent of wet so The night sky was darker now, almost brooding. Aiden hadn’t slept a wink. His gaze stayed fixed on Cassia’s peaceful face as she slept on his chest, her breathing slow and steady.

She looked so soft, so unaware of the chaos that stormed inside im.

Carefully, he shifted, sliding his arm from under her. She murmured softly but didn’t wake as he laid her comfortably across the back seat. He brushed a loose strand of hair from her cheek before stepping out of the car. The night air was cool against his bare chest. He closed the car door quietly and tilted his head up toward the sky, exhaling a long, tired sigh.

From somewhere deep in the woods, a lone howl echoed. Tomorrow was the full moon.

Aiden moved to the front of the car and popped the bonnet open, inspecting the engine. His fingers brushed over a few parts, adjusting this and that…anything to keep his restless hands busy. When he finally turned the key, the engine roared to life. He let out a breath of relief, shut the hood, and returned to the driver’s seat.

He glanced at Cassia’s reflection in the rearview mirror, her head tilted slightly, her lips parted in sleep. Something in his chest tightened. Without another word, he started the car and drove off into the night.

When he reached the pack house, he stepped out and walked to her side of the car. For a moment, he hesitated. He wanted to wake her, but she looked too peaceful…too fragile in her sleep

So instead, he bent and scooped her gently into his arms. She stirred, a soft sound escaping her throat as she instinctively adjusted against him, her fingers brushing faintly against his chest. She looked like a child in her father’s arms…safe. weightless, and trusting.

Inside the house, James was pacing the sitting room, his expression lined with worry. He froze the moment he saw Aiden carrying Cassia.

“Aiden…. I’ve been trying to call you, but your phone wasn’t connecting,” James said, eyes flicking from Aiden’s face to his bare torso….and then to the sleeping Cassia.

“I left my phone at the hospital,” Aiden muttered, his voice low.

“What happened to her?”

“Nothing,” he said, brushing past him. “We ran into a heavy storm. She fell asleep.”

James followed him upstairs, stopping at the doorway of the guest room as Aiden carried her inside.

Aiden placed her gently on the bed, pulling the blanket up to her shoulders. For a moment, he just stood there, staring at her as if trying to memorize every detail. Then he leaned down and pressed a kiss to her forehead…a soft, lingering kiss that felt like goodbye.

He pulled back quickly, his jaw tight, and turned toward the doo

James was waiting outside, arms folded.

“Where’s Tracy?” Aiden asked, his tone clipped.

“She’s asleep. We waited for you both, but she got tired,” James plied.

Aiden nodded faintly. “When she wakes up, let them talk. And as one of the maids to get Cassia something to wear when she wakes up…”

He turned to leave, but James’s voice stopped him.

Chapter 160

“Aiden.”

He paused, shoulders stiffening.

“Are you okay?” James asked softly, eyes narrowing as he studied him. “You look… off. And your aura-”

“I’m fine,” Aiden interrupted quickly.

But James’s eyes had already caught the faint red marks on his arms. “What’s that?”

Aiden glanced down. The claw mark from Amelia.

“It’s nothing,” he said quietly. “She lost control for a moment. It was a mistake.”

“Then why isn’t it healing?”

Aiden frowned. He hadn’t even noticed until now-it wasn’t healing at all. A slow burn still throbbed under the skin. “It’s probably just slow. It’ll heal,” he murmured and walked away before James could ask more.

Inside his room, he shut the door behind him and stood still for a moment, his chest rising and falling. The silence felt heavy. He stripped off his shorts and stepped under the shower, letting the water crash against his body.

He tilted his head back, trying to wash away the memories….her voice, her scent, her tears. But Amelia’s face stayed etched in his mind.

Frustration clawed at him. He slammed his fist against the tiled wall. Pain flared instantly, and he groaned, pressing his forehead against the cold surface.

When he looked down, the claw mark pulsed faintly, glowing with a strange golden mist. He exhaled shakily, forcing himself to ignore it.

After his shower, he dressed in a loose shirt and shorts, collapsed on the bed, and finally drifted into uneasy sleep.

The knock at his door came hours later.

Aiden groaned, rubbing his eyes. Sunlight filtered through the curtains-it was morning already. He’d slept longer than he

realized.

He opened the door to find James standing there.

“Has Cassia gone?” he asked immediately.

“No, she’s still asleep,” James replied.

Aiden let out a quiet breath of relief. “Good.”

James studied him again, frowning. “Your father’s waiting for you. He said it’s urgent.”

Aiden’s jaw tightened. “Tell him I’ll be there in a minute.”

As James walked away, Aiden leaned against the door, closing his eyes briefly. His pulse thudded hard.

A sudden, sharp pain lanced through his arm. He looked down and froze. The wound had worsened overnight. The skin was red, inflamed, and glowing faintly with that same golden mist.

“What the hell…” he muttered under his breath.

The ache spread deeper, hot and sharp. He clenched his fist, forging himself to move. Maybe it was just… a delayed healing phase.

He bathed, dressed in a long-sleeved shirt to hide the wound, and made his way toward his father’s study… each step heavy with the weight of something he couldn’t yet name.
