Chapter 161
Meanwhile, Alpha Alaric sat in his study, leaning back in his chair with an unreadable expression. Across from him, a young woman sat nervously on the couch, fidgeting with her fingers and tapping her foot against the floor. Her name was Racheal Charles, and she was waiting for Alpha Aiden – her soon-to-be usband.
The silence in the room was heavy, broken only by the ticking of the old grandfather clock.
Then the door opened.
Aiden stepped in.
“Aiden…” Alpha Alaric said, straightening slightly the moment hi son entered.
“Dad,” Aiden replied, frowning. “What brings you home? You could have called.” His tone was calm but firm. He didn’t even notice the woman sitting on the couch at first.
“I did call,” Alaric said. “You weren’t answering.”
Aiden exhaled. “Yeah, I left my phone at the hospital.”
His father nodded once, then motioned toward the young woman. “Well, since you’re here, I’d like to introduce you to your new wife – Racheal Charles, daughter of my old friend, Beta Charles.”
Aiden’s gaze slowly shifted to her. The woman stood up nervously when their eyes met, her cheeks flushing.
“Hi, Alpha Aiden,” Racheal said softly, bowing her head in respect.
Aiden’s jaw tightened, his fists curling at his sides. His father wasn’t joking after all. He really had gone and found him a wife.
Alaric’s voice filled the room. “You see, Aiden? She’s beautiful and respectful. She’ll make you a fine Luna and give you an Alpha heir.”
Aiden’s eyes snapped back to his father, his expression darkening. “Dad, what is this nonsense?” he growled. “I told you I’m not marrying anyone. Take her back to wherever you brought her from.”
The sharpness in his voice made Racheal flinch.
“Aiden! Don’t you dare walk out on me!” Alpha Alaric barked as iden turned and stormed toward the door. But Aiden didn’t stop. He slammed the door behind him, leaving silence in his wake.
Alpha Alaric let out a low growl, pinching the bridge of his nose. Then he turned back to the shaken young woman.
“My son can be… stubborn,” he said in a calmer tone. “But don’t worry. He’ll marry you. He just needs time.”
Racheal nodded shyly, still avoiding his eyes.
“You’ll come with me to the hospital,” Alaric continued, standing up. “You should meet my wife….your future mother-in-law.”
“Yes, Alpha,” Racheal murmured, rising from the couch and following him out.
Downstairs, they passed James and Tracy, who were sitting in the living room. Tracy’s gaze flicked curiously toward them. Alaric at first gave her a surprise look, one that showed how the ell she got to the pack house and then gave her a hard, cold look that made her spine stiffen.
The young woman beside him, though, had a soft and innocent low- the kind of purity that drew curiosity rather than fear.
“Who’s that lady?” Tracy asked quietly once they’d gone.
“That’s the woman Alpha Alaric wants Aiden to marry,” James replied, his tone serious.
Tracy hummed under her breath, still watching the direction they left.
“Amelia’s still asleep,” James added. “When she wakes up, you can see her. Come on, let’s have breakfast.”
Tracy nodded slowly and followed him toward the dining table.
I’m going to kill Aiden when I see him, she thought, even as a small smile tugged at her lips.
She walked downstair… and froze.
At the dining table sat James… and a woman she hadn’t seen in years.
Her heart stuttered.
“Tracy?” she whispered.
James looked up. “Oh look, Amelia’s here,” he said, smiling faint
Tracy turned, her spoon dropping from her hand. Her eyes widened in disbeliet.
“Amelia…” she breathed, her voice trembling. Tears instantly fill her eyes as she stood up.
“Tracy…” Amelia’s voice broke.
In seconds, they ran into each other’s arms, clinging tightly as if fraid to let go.
“Oh my goddess, Amelia!” Tracy cried, tears streaking down her cheeks. “We all thought you were dead! I thought I’d never see you again!”
Amelia pulled back slightly, her own eyes shining. “Well, I’m alive and healthy,” she said with a watery smile. “I can’t believe it’s really you, Tracy. I missed you so much.”
–
Tracy let out a choked laugh as Amelia hugged her again tighter this time. The years between them seemed to melt away in that single embrace.
