Chapter 201
Meanwhile, Damien, who had left the house early after dropping Arthur off at school, drove straight to the hospital. He wasn’t sure why-only that something inside him had said Cassi might have gone back to the hospital. Maybe she was there.
When his car rolled into the hospital garage, he was about to ste out when movement caught his eye.
Cassia.
She climbed down from Aiden’s car.
Damien froze.
She looked furious, her steps quick and sharp as she walked away from the vehicle. His brows furrowed in confusion as he followed the scene through the windshield. Then Aiden stepped out, holding a small paper bag that looked like takeout food.
What the hell was going on?
Damien’s fingers tightened around the steering wheel. He watched as Aiden called after Cassia, his expression soft-too soft -and when Cassia turned, her face was pale but flushed, her shoulders tense. Aiden said something Damien couldn’t hear. Then he saw it.
Aiden touched her hand.
That was it.
Damien’s blood boiled instantly. His jaw locked as anger crawled through his veins like wildfire. He couldn’t hear their words, but he didn’t need to. Cassia’s lips moved fast…she was arguing…and then she snatched the bag from him before walking off in a rush, disappearing into the hospital building.
The moment she was gone, Damien climbed out of his car in one swift motion, his pulse hammering. Every muscle in his body coiled with fury as he stalked toward Aiden, who had just turned to head back to his car.
“Aiden,” Damien’s voice sliced through the air.
Aiden turned-and that was all it took.
Damien’s fist connected with his face, a brutal punch that made iden stagger back a few steps. The crack of bone echoed through the empty garage.
“What the hell was that for?” Aiden snapped, touching his lip. Hi fingers came away bloody. His eyes darkened with restrained rage.
“That was for touching Amelia’s arm,” Damien growled. His voice was cold, dangerous. “What were you doing with her?”
“What do you mean what was I doing with her?” Aiden shot back wiping the blood off his mouth. “I found her last night- she was in danger. I took her somewhere safe and brought her back to the hospital this morning.”
Damien’s jaw tightened. His heartbeat roared in his ears. “You do what?” His voice was low, trembling with barely contained fury. His fists clenched again, itching to strike.
“You heard me right, Damien.” Aiden’s tone turned icy. “You should be grateful I brought her back. If I wanted to, I could’ve run away with her. But I didn’t. I brought her back to you”
For a second, their eyes locked…two wolves with different ranks, alpha and a beta, two men in love with the same woman… both too proud, too wounded, to back down.
Aiden gave him one last glare before turning away. He opened his car door, grabbed a handkerchief from his pocket, and pressed it against his split lip. The metallic scent of blood filled the air as he climbed into his car.
The engine roared to life, and within seconds, he was gone.
Damien stood there, chest heaving, rage simmering beneath his skin. He clenched his jaw so tight it hurt.
If Aiden had found Cassia last night, that meant they’d been together all night.
Doing what?
The thought sliced through him. His stomach knotted. He’d called her so many times last night-no answer. Her phone had gone off completely. And now he knew why.
She’d been with Aiden.
Every time they were together, her phone was always dead. Always unreachable. Always somewhere he couldn’t follow.
Damien dragged his hands down his face and exhaled, fighting the ache building in his chest. He forced himself to take a breath and turned toward the hospital. He needed answers.
He found Cassia in her office, packing her bag.
“Cassia,” he said softly.
She froze. The sound of his voice made her shoulders tense. Slowly, she turned around. Their eyes met—and her expression was cold. Too cold.
“Damien.” Her voice was low, stripped of warmth.
“Amelia,” Beta Greg said, relief flooding his tone as he saw her.
Cassia…Amelia…smiled faintly and walked to him. “Dad… how are you feeling?”
“I feel better now that I’ve seen you,” he said, standing to embrace her. His arms were warm, fatherly, familiar. When he pulled away, his eyes softened. “Where did you go last night? We were all worried.”
Her throat tightened. Her gaze drifted briefly to Damien. There was no way she could tell them she’d been with Aiden all night.
“I was alone,” she said softly. “I just needed space to think. I’m okay now.”
It was a lie, and it burned to say it. She wasn’t okay. She hadn’t been since her mother’s death and learning that it was caused by an overdose given by her had shattered her even more. She’d never forgive herself for it.
Beta Greg nodded slowly, though the concern in his eyes didn’t fade. Something in her was different…he could sense it..but he didn’t press.
Amelia smiled faintly at Gloria, then turned and followed Damien upstairs.
He led her into a newly arranged room. She stood in silence, her eyes drifting over the furniture, the faint smell of paint and wood polish. Her gaze eventually landed on the window and through it, she could see the pack house in the distance.
Aiden’s home.
Her chest squeezed painfully.
Damien lingered behind her, watching her reflection in the glass “Amelia,” he said after a moment, his tone low, careful. “You still haven’t told me where you were last night. I was worried about you.”
“I told you,” she murmured, not looking at him. “I was alone. I’m here now. I’m safe. You don’t have any reason to be worried anymore.”
“Well, forgive me if I think I do,” he said, his voice tightening “u vanished. No one could reach you. Then you suddenly appear with no explanation. As your fiancé as the man you’re upposed to marry I have every right to know where you were and who you were with
He waited for her to speak, to confess what he already suspected and knew. But her next words froze him in place.
“I didn’t ask you to be worried about me,” she said flatly. Her voie was quiet but sharp enough to cut. “Just leave me alone,
Damien.”
He stared at her, disbelief flashing across his face. Her tone, her oldness… it wasn’t the woman he knew.
