James was about to leave the house when he suddenly spotted Luna Donna and Racheal — the new bride — sitting at the dining table with Alpha Alaric.
They were having breakfast. He froze mid-step.
They hadn’t seen him yet, and he was about to slip away when Luna Donna’s sharp voice caught him.
“James…” she called, and he stopped, forcing a polite smile as he turned to her. All three pairs of eyes — Donna’s, Alaric’s, and Racheal’s — lifted to him.
–
“James, I haven’t seen Aiden since he left yesterday evening. Do you know where he went?” Luna Donna asked, her tone calm but edged with curiosity.
James hesitated, eyes darting briefly toward Alaric, whose piercing stare made lying harder. “He’s with Ethan at the hospital,”
gone he said smoothly, though the lie burned his tongue. He hadn’t seen Aiden since last night, every call he gave him had unanswered.
“Of course,” Alaric muttered with disdain, “he’s with that bastard son.”
Luna Donna shot her husband a warning look, silently urging him to watch his words. Then she turned back to James.
“Then you should take Racheal to him,” she said matter-of-factly “She’s his bride-to-be. She should get to know Ethan too and Aiden needs to start bonding with her before the marriage.”
James blinked, startled. “What?” he blurted before catching himself. “I mean… Aiden wouldn’t want me bringing her to the hospital.”
“And why is that?” Donna pressed, her brows raised. “He’s going to marry Racheal. Since he’s barely home, she should be with him wherever he goes. And Arthur should get to know her bo… she’ll be his stepmother soon.”
Her words settled like lead in the air. James bit his inner lip, torn between obedience and reason. Alaric’s cold, assessing gaze didn’t help. There was no way out.
“Tell the truth, James,” Alaric said, his voice calm but dangerous. Is Aiden really at the hospital… or with Amelia?”
James’s throat tightened. The truth hovered just at the edge of his lips. Aiden had gone to find Amelia last night — and hadn’t come back. He inhaled sharply. “No,” he said finally, forcing a small, respectful smile. “He’s with Ethan.”
“Then there’s no problem taking Racheal to him,” Alaric said flatly, his tone leaving no room for argument.
“Of course, Alpha,” James murmured, bowing slightly.
He turned to Racheal, who sat nervously, fidgeting with her fingers. Her shoulders were tense, her eyes darting between them like a trapped bird.
“Go on, honey,” Luna Donna said softly, giving her a reassuring pod. “Go with him.”
Racheal nodded, her chair scraping softly against the floor as she stood and walked toward the door.
James followed, but just as he reached for the handle, Alaric’s voe called out again, deep and commanding.
“James.”
He stopped and turned back.
“Call the council members,” Alaric said. “Tell them we’ll be having a council meeting first thing tomorrow morning”
James frowned slightly, “Yes, Alpha…” he replied, though confusion rippled through him. Why was Alaric calling a council meeting without informing Aiden?

“And another thing.” Alaric continued, his tone turning sharper. Amelia or Doctor Cassia, whatever she calls herself – has done her job here. Send her notice. It’s time for her to leave Red Moon Pack.”
James’s lips parted slightly. “I… don’t think that would be possible Alpha.”
Alaric’s eyes narrowed. “What do you mean?”
James swallowed, forcing himself to meet his gaze. “Not everyone got the cure. More needs to be made. Only Amelia can do that. And even if she wants to leave, she can’t she just lost her mother.”
–
The air turned heavy, the silence sharp. Luna Donna stiffened, her hand trembling as she rose from her seat, shock painting
her face.

In two strides, Alaric closed the distance between them. His hand shot out, wrapping tightly around her throat, slamming. her against the wall. Donna gasped, her hands clawing at his wrist as tears streamed down her face.
“If you tell anyone the truth about Evenly,” he hissed, voice low and venomous, “if you dare open that mouth of yours, I’ll tell Aiden everything. You’ll lose more than your sister, Donna. You’ll lose your son too. He’ll never forgive you.”
Her breath hitched, terror flooding her veins. Her tears stopped instantly, her body frozen beneath his grip. Alaric released her slowly, letting her crumble to the floor.
“Good,” he muttered, straightening his collar as if nothing had happened. “Now you understand.”
He turned and walked out, leaving Donna on the cold floor, clutching her neck, silent tears running down her face not just of grief, but of guilt.
