Chapter 209
Cassia walked into the quiet mansion. The living room was empy, her father and sister were likely in their rooms. She climbed upstairs, changed into a simple dress, and tied her hair p.
Her steps carried her to the window. She leaned against the frame, staring out at the pack house in the distance. Memories came flooding back…moments of laughter, pain, love, betrayal. The thought of Aiden being alone with Racheal now twisted something deep in her chest. She swallowed hard and shook her head, trying to push the feeling away.
–
Why had Damien chosen a house so close to the pack house? Every day here was a reminder of what she had lost and what she still felt.
She sighed and went downstairs to prepare dinner for Arthur. In the kitchen, she began cooking his favorite pasta, the rhythmic sound of the knife on the board calming her nerves… until she heard soft footsteps.
She turned, startled, to find Gloria standing in the doorway.
They stared at each other in silence. Memories surged… of that day Gloria had lashed out at her, of the cruel words she’d said when Cassia came home broken and divorced, mourning her daughter. Cassia swallowed hard, blinking back the sting of tears.
“I’m sorry,” Gloria said quietly, her voice small. “I just came to get some water. I’ll come back when you’re done.”
She turned to leave, but Cassia’s voice stopped her.
“Gloria…”
Gloria froze, then turned back, guilt flashing across her eyes. She couldn’t even meet Cassia’s gaze.
“You don’t have to apologize for coming in here,” Cassia said softly. “This is your home now. Our home.”
Tears welled in Gloria’s eyes as she shook her head.
“Why are you so kind to me?” she whispered. “After everything said to you- everything I did? Why?”
Cassia put the towel down and stepped closer.
“Because two wrongs don’t make a right,” she said gently. “And you’re my sister. You don’t expect me to hold a grudge for seven years, do you? I forgave you a long time ago. I miss you, Gloria. And it’s what Mom would have wanted too.”
At the mention of their mother, Evelyn, Cassia’s voice broke. Tears slipped down her cheeks, but she quickly wiped them
and took another step forward, taking Gloria’s hands in hers. away
“That’s why we need to find out who was behind everything.” Cassia said firmly. “Mom, Dad, everything that happened to us. When we find out, they’ll pay for it for all of it.”
Gloria hesitated, her gaze dropping.
–
“Do you… know anything?” Cassia asked carefully.
Gloria swallowed hard, then whispered, “No. But I know someone who does.”
Cassia’s brows furrowed. “Who?”
“Tracy,” Gloria said, voice trembling. “She knows everything.”
Cassia’s heart skipped a beat. Tracy.
And for the first time in a long while, Cassia felt the old fire of vengeance stir within her chest.
