Meanwhile, Cassia was in the guest room, pacing to and fro, her eps restless and uneven. Her face carried the weight of shock, worry, and disbelief all at once. All this time, it had been ofia….the woman she once thought harmless…who had tried

to kill her. And for years, she had believed it was Aiden who sent hose men.

Her hands tangled through her hair, pulling slightly at the roots as the thought burned in her chest.

How could she be so heartless?

Her steps faltered. Her eyes fixed on the wall as a darker thought pierced her mind.

“What if she’s the one who killed Eva too?”

The words left her in a whisper, chilling even to her own ears. Her mind flashed back to the coma-sleep vision, Eva’s small figure pointing toward a woman, saying she had been poisoned. The face had been blurred, but the hair…it was Sofia’s.

Cassia’s breath stuttered. She slid down against the wall, her back pressed to it, her knees weak. A heavy sigh escaped her lips for what felt like the hundredth time that night.

Sofia hadn’t been in the house the day Eva was poisoned….unless she had an accomplice on the inside. Someone who slipped the poison into her daughter’s food. Just like she had done with Dante, sending him and his men to kill her.

Tears welled in Cassia’s eyes. She bit her lips, trying to hold them back. She couldn’t cry, not now…not when her son was asleep in the next room.

If I ever prove it’s her… I’ll kill her myself.

Her thoughts shifted to Aiden, and the ache in her chest sharpened. He was supposed to believe her. He was supposed to stand with her. Instead, he had chosen once again to remind her that Sofia was his wife. His wife. He was trying to protect

her.

She shook her head, anger twisting with grief. Sofia had almost succeeded in killing her. Who knew if she had been the one behind the fire too? From the moment that woman returned to town, Cassia’s life had been nothing but chaos. Her daughter was killed. Attempts on her life. Her home burned to ashes.

It was all Sofia. Every damn thing.

Cassia pressed her palms to her temples, whispering into the silence, “Why can’t Aiden see the truth? Or… maybe he does, and he just chooses to close his eyes to it?”

The thought made her chest tighten until she felt she might suffocate. She took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down. She couldn’t afford to fall apart. She would prove Sofia’s guilt. But she needed help. And the only person she could trust right now was James.

“Mommy…”

The small, sleepy voice pulled her from her storm of thoughts.thur stirred on the bed, his little brows furrowed in his sleep.

Cassia moved quickly to him, lying beside him. She stroked his air gently, pressing a kiss to his forehead.

“Mommy is here now,” she whispered, trying to anchor herself if the warmth of her son.

But even as she held him close, her mind slipped back into the arkness.

By morning, Cassia woke later than usual. Sleep had come to he only in fragments, her mind tortured by the truth she had uncovered the night before.

She slipped out of bed, washed, and dressed in a simple gown. When Arthur woke, she bathed and dressed him too. smoothing his hair and giving him a soft smile even though her heart was heavy.

Together, they went downstairs. The dining room was quiet…thankfully, no one was there. She guided Arthur into the kitchen, where she prepared mashed potatoes and beans. When he food was ready, she carried the plate to the dining table and set it before her son.

She sat across from him, smiling faintly as she watched him cat. But her own appetite was gone. The events of last night sat. like stones in her chest. What if I’m just imagining it all? What i’m wrong? But no…she knew she wasn’t. And yet the cruelest truth was that no one believed her. Not even Aiden. To them, she was crazy.

“Mommy, are you okay? You’re not eating,” Arthur asked softly, ting his head as his spoon hovered above his plate.

Cassia blinked, pulling herself from her thoughts. She forced a smile and nodded. “I’ll be fine, sweetheart. Eat your food.”

She pushed her chair back. “I’ll just get my phone from the room. I’ll be right back.”

Arthur nodded and returned to his food.

Alone now, Arthur ate slowly, but his eyes darted around the dining room. He hadn’t seen Aiden or James all morning. Where had they gone?, he wondered.

Just then, Sofia’s heels clicked softly against the floor as she appeared. She passed the table, her eyes locking on Arthur with a glare so sharp and hateful it sent a chill down his spine.

Arthur froze, staring back at her. For a moment, neither spoke. Then, shockingly, Sofia’s expression shifted.

“Arthur, how are you?” she asked sweetly.

Arthur blinked, taken aback. Was she… actually talking to him? This woman had made it clear she despised him. Why the sudden change?

He frowned. “Are you talking to me?”

“Of course, yes,” Sofia said smoothly, a gentle smile tugging at her lips. “I know you’re angry with me. You probably don’t like me, and that’s fair. But I’m not a bad person, Arthur. I’m sorty for what I said yesterday. Can we be friends?”

Arthur studied her warily. Something about her tone was wrong too forced, too careful. Why now? Why would she want to be his friend?

His eyes narrowed. His voice was firm, far beyond his years.

“If you’re planning to befriend me so you can carry out your pla, then sorry…I can’t be your friend.”

He pushed his chair back and stood, leaving his half-eaten food Behind as he walked upstairs.

Sofia’s smile evaporated into a scoff. She rolled her eyes, muttering under her breath, “Seriously? Is he a child or an adult? How does he even know I have a plan? His mother must have posoned his mind against me.”

Her gaze shifted to the plate of food still on the table…beans and mashed potatoes, half-caten, still warm,

Slowly, she reached into her pocket and pulled out a small glass al filled with a colorless liquid. She glanced around the room, ensuring no one was watching.

Then, with steady hands, she uncorked the vial and tilted it over Arthur’s plate. A few drops slipped into the food, sinking in without a trace. She quickly sealed the vial again, her lips curving into a cold smile.

Arthur would return. And when he ate, he would die the same way Eva had with blood spilling from his mouth, life draining from his small body.

Her gaze flicked to Cassia’s untouched plate. For a moment, temptation surged in her chest. She could kill Cassia too, right here, right now. But no…patience. She wanted to watch Cassia’s Heart break first. She wanted her to drown in the grief of losing yet another child.

Since Dante couldn’t do his job properly, Sofia had taken matter into her own hands.

The poison she had slipped into Arthur’s food was called Blood Bater. It was merciless. It killed within minutes. No one survived it.

A satisfied smile curled her lips as she stood, adjusting her dress. She tucked the vial back into her pocket and walked calmly toward the kitchen, as if nothing had happened.
