Meanwhile, Arthur and Cassia walked back downstairs, this time Cassia had her phone. As they approached the dining, they saw Ethan dressed up for school, standing by the table. His small hands clutched his stomach…he was clearly hungry and restless, eyes darting to the plates of food.

The moment he saw Arthur, his face twisted, torn between the command his mother had given him and the ache in his chest. He glared at Arthur, sadness glistening in his eyes. Sofia had strictly forbidden him to speak to Arthur again… but he couldn’t take it anymore.

“Hey, Arthur,” Ethan said, his voice soft but trembling.

Arthur blinked, then broke into a smile, surprised and relieved. Hey, Ethan…”

“Hi, Mrs. Cassia…” Ethan waved shyly, and Cassia’s lips curved into a gentle smile.

“Did you prepare this food? I’m really hungry right now and haven’t eaten at all…” Ethan asked, his voice cracking with desperation.

Arthur turned to his mom, biting his lip. The food Cassia made wasn’t much. There wasn’t enough for all three of them.

“You can have my food,” Arthur said without hesitation, sliding the plate toward him.

Ethan’s face lit up instantly. “Really? Thank you… you are such a food friend.” He dropped into the chair and began eating, shoveling the food in with a hunger that made Cassia’s heart ache.

She turned to Arthur, her chest swelling with pride. “You can eat mine, Arthur.”

Arthur shook his head, smiling faintly. “Oh, do not worry, Mommy, I’m full. You should eat.”

Cassia’s heart softened as she gazed at him. Her boy was so selfless, so strong. She smiled through the ache in her chest.

Ethan’s eyes widened as he chewed. “Oh, this food tastes delicious! I think I’m going to have this when I come back from school.” He ate in a rush, as if afraid the plate would be taken away. Arthur chuckled softly.

“I still wonder why my mom doesn’t want me to talk to you guys. You all are the nicest people I know… I’m definitely not going to listen to my mom again.” Ethan spoke between hurried bites, his small rebellion shining in his eyes.

Cassia’s heart cracked at his words. “Gently, Ethan, so you don’t choke.” She poured him a glass of water and slid it across. Ethan beamed at her, gulped it down, and smiled.

“Thank you,” he muttered, returning to his food. But suddenly, His chewing slowed. His hand moved to his stomach. A strange shiver ran through him. His throat tightened, his face palled.

“Are you okay?” Arthur asked first, his small voice full of concern

Ethan forced a smile, nodding. “Yeah… I’m okay.” He picked up s spoon again, determined, but the moment he swallowed another bite, a violent cough tore from his chest.

At first, Cassia thought it was just a normal cough. She quickly poured more water and helped him drink. But the coughs grew harsher, rattling and deep. And then…

Blood splattered across the table.

“Ethan!” Cassia screamed, her voice raw with horror.

Arthur’s chair screeched against the floor as he jumped back, ey wide with terror.

Meanwhile, Sofia, who had been in the kitchen, lazily directing aids while biting into an apple paused, listening. Her lips curled into a cruel smile as she waited for Cassia’s scream. When it came, sharp and panicked, her heart leaped.

But the moment she rushed into the dining, her smile crumbled

Her son. Her Ethan. Blood at his lips, body wracked with spasms

“Ethan! Ethan!” she shrieked, her voice breaking as she lunged forward and scooped him into her arms. Her tears fell instantly, hot and messy.

“You’ve poisoned my son! You’ve killed my son!” she screamed a Cassia, rage and despair tangled in her voice as she rocked Ethan, who was slipping fast.

Cassia stood frozen, her hands trembling violently. Horror carved itself across her face. This was the same… The same way Eva had died. Coughing blood. Poison tearing her apart from the inside.

Her mind raced, slamming her back into the night she’d lost her daughter. The image was identical. And now… now Ethan?

Her throat constricted. There was no way this was coincidence. Someone had poisoned the food. And only one name burned in Cassia’s mind was Sofia.

“Do something! Save my son! You’re a doctor, aren’t you?” Sofia creamed, shaking Ethan as if her desperation could tether him to life.

Cassia’s voice cracked, raw but steady. “I can’t do anything if I don’t know what poison he took.”

“What do you mean? Are you insane? My son is dying and you’re talking about poison names? How the hell would I know?” Sofia’s voice was manic and frantic, soaked with fury and panic.

Cassia’s eyes narrowed. Her voice turned sharp, commanding. ” nothing is done now, he will die. Just tell me the name of the poison!”

Sofia’s chest heaved. “Are you accusing me of poisoning my own son?!” Her sobs grew

louder, eyes

swollen red.

“Sofia, we don’t have time for this!” Cassia snapped, her body trembling as she fought to keep control. “If you take him to the hospital, he may die before you even get there. Tell me what he took!”

Sofia’s lips quivered. Her eyes darted. And then, like a dagger slipping, her words fell.

“Hemovore Toxin… Hemovore Toxin.”

Cassia froze. The world around her collapsed in that single moment. That was the poison. The same poison that had killed Eva. The same poison that had stolen her daughter from her arms.

Her chest heaved. Rage and grief exploded inside her, her heart pounding like thunder.

It was Sofia. It had always been Sofia.

“You killed my daughter,” Cassia whispered, the words cracking to a snarl. Tears flooded her eyes, her fists trembling.

In a flash, she lunged forward, yanking Sofia away from Ethan a slapping her hard across the face.

“You killed my daughter! How could you murder an innocent cd?!” she screamed, her tears spilling as she struck her again.

Sofia’s head snapped back, pain flashing in her eyes, but Cassia’sury didn’t stop.

“And now you tried to kill my son too!” Cassia’s hand came dow again, fueled by grief and rage.

Cassia froze mid-blow. Her breath hitched. Her eyes darted back to Ethan, his lips trembling, blood staining his chin, his chest fighting for each shallow breath.

For a second, she saw not Ethan but Eva. Her little girl, coughing blood, eyes begging for help Cassia couldn’t give. The image tore her apart, shredding her inside out.

Sofia’s sobs echoed in her ears. “Please save my son! Please!”

Cassia turned back to her, her entire body trembling, her voice leaking with venom.

“No. I will not.”

The air grew heavy, her words slicing the silence like a blade.

She stepped closer, her eyes blazing with rage and grief. “A child for a child. Now you will understand the pain of a mother losing her child after carrying them in her womb, after fighting to protect them. Now you will taste what I tasted the night Eva choked on her own blood while you stood smiling in the shadows and sleeping with Aiden.”
