**TITLE: He Returned to Break and Own Me and for His Queen**
**Chapter 101: A Calculated Investment**
Before departing for his trip, Cormac had arranged an important meeting, one that was set to take place at the prestigious Black Pearl restaurant owned by Arthur. Securing a reservation at such a sought-after establishment required planning months in advance, and on this special occasion, Arthur himself took on the role of chef, showcasing his culinary talents.
With such lavish treatment extended to him, it was only natural that Cormac felt obliged to attend.
“I sincerely hope you can forgive us, Mr. Flint,” Bramwell began, his tone earnest as he lowered his glass for a toast. “My daughter is quite strong-willed and, I must admit, can be impulsive at times. She may have unintentionally disrupted your plans, and for that, I sincerely apologize. I ask for your understanding in this matter.” His words were laced with genuine concern and utmost courtesy.
Cormac chuckled softly, waving his hand dismissively. “Oh, it’s a minor matter, Mr. Sterling. No need for such formalities.” He then leaned in slightly, his voice taking on a more serious tone. “Mr. Sterling has been exceptionally generous, injecting three million into my laboratory for research funds. I assure you, I will live up to your expectations and nurture Luna’s talents properly.”
As he spoke, Cormac’s admiration for Luna was evident. “Luna is not only intelligent but also incredibly talented. I have no doubt she will achieve great things in due time.”
Bramwell beamed at the praise, his heart swelling with pride. “You’re too kind, Mr. Flint. A student’s achievements are undeniably a reflection of their teacher’s dedication and hard work. Come, Luna, let’s raise a toast to Mr. Flint together!” The flattery seemed to delight Cormac, and after a few drinks, his cheeks took on a rosy hue, prompting him to share a few more encouraging words.
“With a father like you, who plans so meticulously for his child’s future, combined with Luna’s innate talent and hard work, I have high hopes for her performance in the upcoming MDT. Following the collaboration group, the mentors will co-author a new evidence-based article to be published in one of the top ten medical SCI journals. If Luna performs well, I will ensure she is included in this prestigious opportunity. It’s a rare honor, as so far, only Leo among my students has managed to participate in a publication of such caliber.”
Luna felt a wave of emotion wash over her at the prospect. The idea of having an SCI publication under her belt would be a monumental boost for her academic reputation and future career! Her determination shone through her eyes like a beacon. “I will work hard and not let you down, Mr. Flint,” she promised, her voice steady with resolve.
As the evening wore on, Bramwell continued to enjoy his drinks with Cormac while Luna joined them for a few glasses before excusing herself from the private room. She had a personal mission in mind: she wanted to express her gratitude to Arthur for his exceptional hospitality that evening.
However, as she made her way through the main hall, her gaze suddenly froze, turning icy and sharp.
There, in a booth by the floor-to-ceiling window that offered a breathtaking view of the illuminated Jindiwood skyline, sat Oriana and Lily, being led to their table. A flicker of calculation danced in Luna’s eyes, a feeling of unease creeping into her heart.
Arthur had previously introduced her identity to the management of the restaurant, granting her certain privileges that would allow her to receive preferential treatment—her authority second only to his. She recalled the manager’s lighthearted joke, “Could this be the future mistress of the restaurant?”
Luna had laughed, covering her mouth in amusement, but Arthur’s expression had turned serious. “She is my only sister, my family. Please, no more jokes like that.” It was a rare glimpse of Arthur’s protective nature; he was usually gentle and approachable, but when it came to matters of family, he was unwavering and no-nonsense.
With the privilege bestowed upon her by Arthur, Luna stepped into the kitchen as if it were her own domain. The chefs greeted her with nods and respectful bows, treating her like the lady of the house.
“Luna, what brings you here? How is everything? Is the food to your liking?” Arthur asked, his smile warm and welcoming.
“It’s them…” she admitted, biting her lip lightly. “But honestly, I know I’m at fault too. I can’t place all the blame on them. It just upsets me, especially seeing them dining here at your restaurant. It feels wrong.”
She looked up at Arthur, her eyes glistening with unshed tears. “Is it really so terrible of me to feel this way?”
“It’s a natural human emotion, Luna. You’re doing remarkably well; there’s no need to be so hard on yourself,” he reassured her, his voice soothing.
After a moment of contemplation, Arthur called for Hunter, giving him direct instructions. “Accompany Luna outside. Find a way to ask the guests she dislikes to leave the restaurant. From now on, they are not welcome here again.”
Hunter Vance, the restaurant manager, understood the gravity of the situation. High-end establishments like theirs often had their own whitelists and blacklists, and he was more than capable of handling such matters discreetly.
“Please point out which guests they are, Ms. Sterling. I’ll take care of it,” he assured her.
Once they stepped outside, Luna pointed in the distance at Oriana and Lily, seated in the booth, a sense of determination fueling her resolve.
