**Chapter 121: Truth Exposed Before All**
James recoiled slightly, his voice faltering. “Professor, I…”
At that moment, Cormac’s piercing gaze locked onto him, his irritation palpable.
Useless!
James was on the verge of ruining everything! How could he not even surpass a mere nobody who had switched fields halfway through their education?
Murmurs began to ripple through the gathered patients and their families, each whisper amplifying the tension in the air.
“Wait, wasn’t that just Mr. Flint’s student who came back earlier? Didn’t he admit he was the one who treated the patient? How can it not be him?”
“Exactly! If he didn’t treat the patient, how could he possibly claim credit? That’s utterly shameless.”
“He’s one of Mr. Flint’s students. How could he possibly lose to some no-name girl? Don’t tell me that crazy old guy is even better than Mr. Flint?”
“Actually, I think I’ve seen him somewhere before… he looks familiar.”
Cormac narrowed his eyes, forcing a mask of calm over his features, desperately attempting to salvage his dignity.
“Both students went together to assess the patient. Since the emergency has been resolved, they both deserve recognition. Let’s not twist the facts—I’m merely questioning Oriana’s approach to her studies. As her mentor, isn’t it my duty to guide and correct my students?”
“Bullshit! You’re the one twisting the narrative, Cormac! If Oriana hadn’t stayed behind to monitor the patient until the fever broke, would she have returned so late? You’re not just lying—you’re trying to sneak in credit that you don’t deserve!”
With every “old fart” William hurled at him, Cormac felt the pressure building in his temples. He could no longer contain his frustration.
“That’s enough, you—”
“What’s all this noise? Don’t you two know the rules of the inpatient ward?”
The head nurse strode over, her annoyance evident, unbothered by the fact that she was reprimanding top professors.
William couldn’t help but grin, sensing a shift in the tide. “Perfect timing! Miss, why don’t you enlighten everyone about who actually treated that high-fever patient?”
The head nurse shot him a bemused look. “Isn’t that obvious? Dr. Sterling, of course.”
Cormac’s expression darkened to a shade of fury.
James went pale as a ghost, the color draining from his face.
Luna stood frozen, her mind racing. She didn’t care about the quarrel between Cormac and William; one thought consumed her.
Oriana did it alone? That can’t be true. Without Dr. Anderson’s assistance, how could the patient’s fever have subsided so easily?
The head nurse regarded Luna as if she were naive. “Dr. Anderson did attempt to help… but it was futile. The patient overpowered him in one swift motion. It was Dr. Sterling who utilized acupuncture to stabilize the crisis and bring the fever down.”
Then, with a hint of confusion, she added, “Wait, did Dr. Anderson imply that he actually helped?”
That single line shattered the remnants of dignity James had clung to.
Oriana emerged from the office next door, extending a spare white coat to William.
“The patients are still waiting for a professor to come see them.”
That one calm statement caught William off guard.
He shot Oriana a sidelong glance, grumbling, “Fine, fine, I’ll go take a look.”
He muttered to himself the entire way, “Cormac is such a hypocrite. He can bully others, but the moment someone pushes back, he sulks? What a baby.”
Oriana shook her head, following him closely.
Despite William’s complaints about being tired and not wanting to work, once he was in front of patients, he was the most diligent and proactive of them all.
He took pulses, asked detailed questions, and scrutinized every record from the beginning—nothing escaped his keen eye.
What was meant to be a two-hour round stretched into four.
William didn’t take a single break, and no one dared to eat. They didn’t finish until nearly four in the afternoon.
Before leaving, William instructed Oriana to compile and organize all the patient information they had gathered. She nodded in agreement, packed her things, and departed the hospital.
Upon arriving home, she found only Chubby waiting at the door.
Assuming Micah was busy, she gently patted Chubby on the head, a small smile gracing her lips.
