“We can’t just let him keep holding all the cards, can we? Grant, why don’t you tell Oriana the truth–make her see Micah for who he really is!”
Grant’s mouth twisted cold. “Can those surveillance tapes from last night be restored?”
“Uh, no. I checked everywhere that could have filmed that area. Nothing. Not a single leak.”
“Then what evidence am I supposed to take to Oriana?”
He stared at his reflection in the mirror; his face went hard and dark, a cold light flickering in his eyes.
“Unmasking Micah can wait.
“He might be able to beat me down for a while–but can he crush me forever? Ha. I don’t go down that easily.
“If Oriana’s willing to believe him, let her. The more she trusts him, the deeper she sinks. When the truth finally comes out, she’ll leave him without a second thought.
“No matter how many tricks Micah has up his sleeve, he’s already crossed the line with Oriana. She won’t forgive him.”

The next morning, Kieran drove Oriana to campus. When they passed the Jindiwood University affiliated hospital, a crowd had packed the entrance so tightly you couldn’t see the ground.
Oriana lowered her window and peered out. Reporters–lenses and microphones at the ready -were swarming the hospital like a feeding frenzy, pushing toward the doors while security guards did their best to hold them back.
Even so, Oriana spotted a small, furtive figure with a video camera slip into a bush and crawl through the railing.
Her face changed. “Kieran, stop the car. Let me out here.”
The car pulled over. Oriana sprinted for the hospital entrance.
She cut through a side path and reached the inpatient building first.

Seeing the elevator line jammed with people, she ducked into a service stairwell and ran up eight flights.
Out of breath, she threw open the VIP ward door and immediately woke Nyla, who had been on bedside watch.
Nyla had been up late comforting Kaelyn until just a few hours before.
The abrupt intrusion jolted her awake, and she snapped, “Oriana–what are you doing? You can’t just–knock first-”
Oriana strode over, checked Kaelyn’s monitor, and, seeing her vitals were stable, began adjusting the bed. “No time for nonsense. We have to go now.”
Nyla blinked, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. “What?”
When Nyla moved to stop her hands on the equipment, Oriana didn’t hesitate.
At that moment, the door burst open—revealing the same reporter who’d slipped in through the bushes.
He thrust his camera toward the pale–faced Kaelyn and shouted, “Guys, I found Kaelyn. She’s in the ward–this is proof. She was ruined by someone trying to push her up the ladder!”
Kaelyn, already jittery from strangers, went white.
She instinctively curled in on herself, covering her face, and screamed, “I’m not Kaelyn–don’t film me–I’m not–aaah!”
“Filming is not allowed in the hospital!”
Oriana’s voice cut sharply. She stalked toward the aggressive cameraman, then spun to Nyla— who was frozen in shock–and snapped, “What are you standing there for? Push her down onto the bed. Her wounds will split!”
Nyla snapped back to life and lunged to restrain Kaelyn. “Kaelyn! Relax. It’s okay. We’ll protect you. It’s okay.
“Trust me–no one’s hurting you while we’re here.”
Nyla’s quiet reassurance and Oriana’s intervention slowly calmed Kaelyn.
Nyla let out a shaky breath and glanced toward Oriana.
What she saw tightened her chest. Oriana–shorter than that reporter by a head–was

Nyla had never seen such fierce emotion on Oriana’s usually composed face–she looked like a tigress defending her turf.
Nyla remembered the time Oriana had snapped her arm in a single, clean motion–no hesitation, no dragging it out.
The memory made her wince. Her arm still hurt thinking about it.
But that time had been to stand up for Lily. Why was Oriana fighting so hard now?
Before Nyla could puzzle it out, Oriana shoved the reporter out of the room and lunged for his camera, trying to seize the device and erase the footage.
The man snapped. “You bitch–blocking my story–I’ll kill you!”
His face twisted; his hands shot up and clamped around Oriana’s throat, squeezing with reckless force.
Two nurses rushed forward to stop him, but the enraged cameraman knocked them aside like they were nothing.
Oriana hadn’t expected such madness. She hadn’t guarded against an attack. Air left her lungs in an instant. Her face flushed crimson, then went gray as the color drained away.
