Listening to him tell Oriana how Luna had so considerately cleared the path for him–how she’d quietly waited for her own “terminal illness” countdown to end, just so they could step over her corpse and move into their dream home together, raising kittens and puppies as if nothing had happened–Luna felt the world twist around her.
The surveillance room was cloaked in darkness, the glow from the blue monitors casting an eerie light over her pale, contorted face, like that of a vengeful ghost.
The elevator doors closed; once the two of them were gone, the footage ended.
Luna bit hard on her left index fingernail as her right hand clicked the mouse over and over, frantic, almost deranged.
She had to see more–had to see, with her own eyes, just how far their betrayal went.
“Nothing? Damn it, why is there nothing?”
No matter how desperately she searched, every other video file was blank.
Deleted. All of it.
With a cry of rage, Luna hurled the mouse to the floor, shattering it into pieces.
What did missing footage mean?
It meant they’d done things even more shameless than she could imagine.
No wonder–no wonder Grant’s Mercedes–Maybach had suddenly vanished. After leaving the elevator, they must have gone straight to the car. God knows what filthy, revolting things they did inside it.
That car was probably still reeking of their passion.
A wild, broken laugh burst from Luna’s throat.
“Grant, do you even deserve me? I gave you everything–my body, my connections, my resources–to help you climb to the top. And this is how you repay me? Oriana, pretending to be so pure and detached–what a joke! You’re nothing but a whore, sneaking around with your ex behind your man’s back!”
She laughed and cried all at once, tears streaming down her wide, furious eyes. “Oriana was right. Grant, you’re trash. You want what’s already been used, groveling for leftovers like a dog.

Grant, you’re the real slut here!”

Her voice broke into manic laughter. “You think you can erase me? Move on, build perfect life with Oriana? Dream on! That will never happen!”
Luna’s bloodshot eyes blazed with madness.

“This life,” she hissed, “the only woman you’ll ever have is me. Everything you own- everything you are–belongs to me alone!”

Oriana had just stepped out of the bathroom, wrapped in the scent of soap and steam, when she saw him. Micah was already stretched out on her bed, looking perfectly at ease, as though he’d been waiting just for her.
She smiled faintly and sat down at the edge of the bed, taking off her hair–drying cap so that her damp hair tumbled over her shoulders.
“I thought you were still talking with Kieran. That was fast,” she teased.
Hearing her voice, Micah shifted toward her, deftly taking the hairdryer from her hand. “I didn’t want to keep you waiting,” he said, his tone light.
Warm air hummed between them as he began to blow–dry her hair.
The first time he’d done this–right after moving in–he’d been painfully cautious, terrified of breaking her fine strands.
But after a few tries, he’d grown confident, almost expert, knowing exactly which direction to tousle to make her hair soft and airy.
Maybe that was just how geniuses were–they picked things up fast.
Even in bed…
Oriana’s mind drifted somewhere it shouldn’t, and a faint blush crept up her ears.
“What’s got you so deep in thought?” Micah asked, amused.
“Just wondering if you’ve been secretly learning… new moves,” Oriana replied without thinking.
The words were perfectly clear–too clear.

My fault, sorry.”

He offered an apology, though his narrow, unreadable eyes held a trace of lazy amusement.
The midday sun poured through the blinds in soft, slanted beams, scattering golden light across his face. In that warm glow, his light brown eyes shimmered–not cold at all, but deep and tender, rippling with affection.
