“Professor? Are we interrupting?” Randolph and Bryan asked, uncerta Cormac merely stared at them in silence.

A faint smile flickered across his face, though it never reached his eyes.
“It’s fine,” he said evenly. “What brings you two here?”
Bryan offered a polite smile and stepped forward. “Oriana often tells us how kind you’ve been to her–guiding and supporting her in her career. She says you’re not only an excellent teacher but also a true friend. With the New Year approaching, we wanted to take the chance to personally thank you for all you’ve done for her.”
“Yes,” Randolph chimed in, “Oriana came to Jindiwood all alone, without family or friends, and you’ve taken such good care of her. It’s a great honor for Oriana. Your professionalism and integrity are deeply admirable, and we’re truly grateful.”
Their courteous words pleased Cormac, who prided himself on his reputation–especially when the praise came from Oriana’s elders.
He smiled faintly and asked, almost playfully, “Really? She talks about me like that?”
“Of course,” Bryan replied. “Oriana often speaks of you with great respect and gratitude.”
Cormac’s heart swelled with satisfaction.
He wished William were there to hear what his brilliant student had been telling her family.
Clearly, Oriana knew who truly mattered.
He thought back to when Seabar University had first recommended st

had been at the top of her class. If it hadn’t been for Luna, Oriana would have been his student, and William, that fickle old fool, would never have had the chance.
Since the launch of the MDT, Cormac’s irritation toward Oriana had slowly eased.
She was bright, capable, and hardworking–far more so than most of his students, especially Luna.
But, unfortunately, she was connected to William.
And Cormac despised William more than anyone alive.

So even if Oriana’s family came singing her praises, it would take far more than polite words to change his mind.
If Cormac agreed to include Oriana in his projects just because of a f recognition she earned would ultimately reflect on William, her adv

And since Oriana had come to him of her own accord, he certainly wouldn’t let this chance to settle old scores–and vent his long–held resentment–slip away. That wasn’t Cormac’s way.
Just then, Randolph and Bryan exchanged uneasy glances. Bryan reached into the inside pocket of his coat. “Professor,” he said carefully, “this is just a small token of our gratitude. Please accept it…”
At the sight, Cormac gave a sharp, derisive snort and leaned back in his ergonomic chair.
His eyelids lowered as he refused to even look at them directly, his disdain clear.
“What do you take me for?” he said coldly. “Do you really think a little gesture like that could buy me off?”
The two men froze, startled. “No, Professor, you’ve misunderstood,” Bryan stammered. “We’re not trying to bribe you, this is—”
Before he could finish, Cormac abruptly stood up and strode to the door, flinging it open with a sharp motion. His voice was full of righteous indignation.
“Family or not, I do not play favorites when choosing students for top international journals. Do you think I’ll bend the rules because of a few kind words and a token gift? That would be an insult to my integrity!”
He gestured toward the doorway. “Take your things and leave my office–now. And in the future, if there’s anything to discuss, let Oriana come to me herself, properly. She’s an adult. Hiding behind her family and acting timid is disgraceful. How can so become a doctor–someone responsible for patients‘ lives? Behaving the profession!”
Cormac’s voice dripped with scorn, every word sharp and cutting.

Suddenly, a small crowd began to gather in the corridor–doctors, nurses, and even a few patients. Word spread quickly that the parents of a young doctor were trying to curry favor with Mr. Flint. Curious whispers rippled through the hallway as people pointed and murmured among themselves.
Randolph and Bryan stood frozen, humiliated.
