Grant’s face turned blue, his breath cut off as he gasped and clawed at Micah’s hand. The air burned in his lungs, his body convulsing with panic.
Micah’s expression didn’t flicker. He stood there, cold and composed, watching Grant’s struggle as if it meant nothing.
Just when Grant’s vision began to fade, Micah extended his free hand, hooked his finger, and deftly snatched the bracelet slipping from Grant’s grasp.
Then, as if losing interest, he released him. Grant collapsed forward, clutching his throat and dragging in air like a fish flung onto dry land.
His head spun; his limbs trembled. Still, he forced himself to stay alert in case Micah came at him again.
But Micah merely took out a handkerchief. Holding the bracelet between elegant fingers, he began wiping it down–slowly, precisely, cleaning every detail. He lingered over the ruby, polishing it until the stone gleamed.
Only after a while did he seem satisfied.
Since the moment he’d entered, Micah had carried an air of effortless control. Now, he calmly slipped the bracelet onto his left wrist.
It fit perfectly, neither too loose nor too tight.
He glanced down, the faintest curve touching his lips, then turned and walked toward the door.
Grant’s fury boiled over. He clenched his neck, feeling humiliated.
Then, he got out of bed and staggered toward the door. His throat burned as he rasped to the nurses who were blocked in the nurse station, “Call the cops! I want a medical report!”
Micah stopped mid–stride.
He didn’t even turn fully–just tilted his head slightly, eyes narrowing in a cold, dangerous arc.
Grant braced himself against the doorframe, voice shaking with rage. “Micah, this isn’t your damn playground! You think you can just show up, steal from me, and walk out?”

The platinum bracelet caught the light as he lowered his hand, its sheen adding a chill to his poise.
“My wife was in a car accident while giving her friend a ride. She brought the culprit here out of kindness, left something behind by mistake, and the culprit decided to keep it. So tell me, we go to the police, whose side do you think they’ll take?”
Grant’s voice cracked. “You assaulted me! Look at my neck-”
Micah’s laugh was soft and sharp. “Fine. Tomorrow’s the first day of the AI Summit. If Mr. Holloway insists on calling the police… Kieran.”
Kieran nodded, already reaching for his phone.
Grant’s eyes
widened.
“No! Don’t call them!”
He knew if he ended up at the station, it might not ruin him legally–but Micah could easily have him detained for theft, and that would mean missing the summit. Panic hit him all at

Grinding his teeth, Grant spat, “So that’s what this is about! I thought you came here because you couldn’t stand me being close to Oriana. Turns out you only wanted this bracelet. You’re just using her as an excuse to push me out! You’re pathetic!”
Micah didn’t respond.
It was worthless to waste his words on such a jerk.
He simply looked at Grant as though studying something beneath him, a faint, mocking smile tugging at his lips.
Kieran caught on instantly. Turning to the pale nurses nearby, he said pleasantly, “You heard that, right? Mr. Holloway said no police.”
The nurses exchanged uneasy glances, then nodded. “Y–yes, we heard.”
Kieran smiled politely. “Good.”
Grant stood frozen.
His face shifted through shades of red and white, humiliation sinking in. No matter how he

He had planned everything tonight: the car crash, the hospital, even the timing. Yet not only had Oriana ignored him, but Micah had nearly strangled him to death and walked away with the bracelet in hand.
Worse still, Grant had practically handed it over himself.
He bit down so hard he tasted blood. His throat throbbed in pain, but he swallowed it back with his rage.
Micah turned, expression unreadable, and strode off.
Kieran and the men in black followed, silent and efficient.
The hallway gradually returned to order.
The nurses and patients who had been watching craned their necks as Grant stood there, trembling with fury. He shot them a glare. “What the hell are you staring at?”
He slammed his door shut, the sound echoing down the corridor.
