The stables were already dressed up for the New Year.

Children from the pony classes were running around with their trainers, turning the quiet field into a playground.
The stable manager spotted Oriana the moment she arrived. He hurried over, bowing slightly. “Mrs. Caldwell, here to see Stormwind again? Rest assured, she’s been eating well, exercising regularly, and living a perfectly comfortable life.”
Zara leaned close and whispered, “No wonder he’s the manager here. His flattery skills are world–class.”
Oriana shot her a mock glare, then smiled at the manager. “Thank you for taking care of her. Stormwind can be a little temperamental. I hope she hasn’t caused too much trouble.”
The manager’s smile faltered just for a second, but Oriana caught it.
Her brow furrowed. “Something happened, didn’t it?”
Memories of the Seabar incident flickered in her mind, and she couldn’t help feeling uneasy.
“N–no, nothing serious!” the manager stammered. “Stormwind is fine, really. It’s just that… well…”
He hesitated, clearly struggling. “She… escaped from her stall several times. And, um… she’s been teasing the purebred stallions. And then… well…”
The poor man looked like he wanted the ground to swallow him. “She, uh… she forced one of them.”
Even with all their mental preparation, neither Oriana nor Zara were ready for that. Both of them froze in place.
Fearing Oriana might blame them, the manager rushed to defend his staff, fully aware of how stern and distant Micah could become. “Mrs. Caldwell, please don’t worry! The trainer acted immediately and gave Stormwind a suppression shot. There’s no chance she’ll… You know, get herself pregnant.”
Zara, still trying to process it, frowned. “Wait, forced? You mean–how is that even possible? How would that work… physically?”
The manager’s mouth twitched. “At first the stallions resisted, but Stormwind was too fierce.

She cornered them, and, well… they didn’t really have a choice.”

Zara gaped at him, then turned to Oriana, who didn’t even know how to react, giving her a huge thumbs–up. “Stormwind is officially my idol. The goddess of mares. Absolute legend.”
Oriana was too speechless to laugh out loud. Of all the things she had imagined could go wrong, this wasn’t on the list.
The manager kept apologizing, his head almost buried in his chest. Oriana finally waved it off. “It’s all right. It’s not your fault.”
Stormwind’s agility was extraordinary. The fences around her private paddock were already chest–high, yet she still managed to jump them.
No one could really stop her.
Oriana picked out a small basket of apples and carrots and headed toward the stall. Inside, a veterinarian was finishing a routine exam while a few stablehands brushed Stormwind’s coat. The mare flicked her tail lazily, clearly enjoying the attention.
Then, as soon as she caught Oriana’s scent from across the barn, she lifted her head, ears twitching. Her tail swished harder, and she snorted loudly, as if blaming Oriana for her infrequent visit.
The stablehands and vet stepped aside to make room. Oriana walked up and gently stroked Stormwind’s forehead.
“I heard about your little adventure. You really made a mess this time.”
Stormwind huffed dramatically and rolled her eyes at the manager five steps away.
Zara burst out laughing. “She understood you! Look at her face! And wow, she’s looking good -bigger, stronger, shinier than last time.”
Oriana took a closer look.
Stormwind’s frame had filled out nicely, her legs sleek and powerful.
When she first arrived, her belly had been sunken and her hooves scarred–signs of exhaustion from too many races before the Sterling family bought her. Now, after months of rest and good care, she looked almost like a new horse.
Oriana’s eyes softened. She fed her the carrots one by one until half the basket was gone.
