Chapter 297 Let It Snow
“You like the snow that much?” Micah asked.
“Yeah, it’s my first time seeing it! I’m texting Zara–she’s going to be so happy!”

Just as Oriana reached for her phone, Micah dropped to one knee behind her, trapping her between his arms and the sofa armrest.
His voice was still gentle but left no room for refusal. “No rush. Let it dry first.”
Oriana blinked, then sat back down and turned to the window again.
The soft snowflakes thickened into heavy clusters, and soon even the heated floors outside began to gather white.
“Micah,” she turned eagerly, “with this much snow, can we have a snowball fight tomorrow? Or build a snowman?”
“If it keeps falling through the night, yes,” he reminded her, “but your period starts in three days. Don’t get chilled.”
Oriana stuck her tongue out. “Alright, alright, I’ll just watch.”
Even just lying on the bed, she found delight in it.
It was like a childhood snow globe come to life, dreamy and romantic.
She thought she could watch it forever.
But…
Once her hair was nearly dry, Micah put away the dryer. Oriana, still gazing at the falling snow, sensed something off.
From her earlobe to her neck, warmth spread in waves of shivery heat.
He was kissing her.
And not just kissing.
She grabbed his hand, breath trembling. “Micah… go–go to the bed…”

But his palm pressed her closer to the window.
The snow outside looked as if it were falling right onto her lashes.
He brushed her hair aside, murmuring, “It’s snowing. No one can see.”
“Mm-!”
“You wanted to watch the snow, didn’t you? Go on. Watch.”

The white glow outside made her face bloom like a rose in frost, her beauty gleaming against the silver world.
Micah’s
eyes
darkened.
Under his sure, practiced touch, tears shimmered at the corners of her eyes.
How could she keep watching like that?
She could barely focus on the snow now.
When his breath scorched her collarbone, Oriana trembled, clutching his head with the last of her sanity. “You… you wanted this since the day you came back, didn’t you?”
Micah inhaled her scent, voice low and honest. “Yeah.”
“Then why bother changing clothes just now? Such a waste of time.”
He was sweating now, heat radiating off him, and she tugged at his shirt with a faint hum.
“It’s cold by the window. I’m warm. Didn’t want you to catch a chill from the temperature difference.”
Oriana fell silent.
He was strangely thoughtful for someone doing this.
Micah caught her hand before she could lift his shirt. “Be good. Focus on the snow.”
Oriana ended up watching the snow for over an hour.
A prosperous year promised by heavy snow, they said–and it fell all night, dressing the city in white silk.

But the man who had spent half the night sweating under his clothes, then cooled off with a shower out of sheer restlessness, managed to give himself a fever instead.
Micah had always been weak; as a child, colds and fevers were constant battles between his immune system and the virus.
He had grown stronger with age and training, but it had been a long time since he’d burned up like this.
When Oriana woke up, she felt like she was hugging a furnace. One touch to his forehead made her panic. She rushed downstairs for help.
Soon, the family doctor arrived and administered a shot. Micah woke briefly during the process, then drifted back to sleep.
It was Oriana’s first time seeing him so fragile, and her heart twisted painfully tight.
