Even if she turned to ash, Grant would never mistake her.
Oriana.
It was her!

Grant’s pupils burned crimson as he tapped open the photo details. The timestamp showed it had been taken half a month before Oriana’s birthday.
So Micah had sent someone to shadow her in Seabar long before Grant ever imagined she’d leave him, as if he had already seen this coming.
He had known they would break up.
Grant let out a low, humorless laugh.
What a cunning bastard. What a perfect move.
“Mr. Holloway, you… know the woman in the picture?”
Grant didn’t answer.
He lifted his head slowly, expression dark as storm clouds. “Since you hate Micah so much, join my team. Let’s make him taste failure.”

“Thank you, lit eyes
Mr. Holloway! I’ll give everything I have to serve you!”

Oriana didn’t know when Micah had woken up.
When she finally glanced away from her screen, she saw him lying there, eyes open, staring blankly at the ceiling.
“You’re awake.”
She closed her phone, set it aside, and leaned in to feel his forehead. “Not as hot now. Do you feel any pain? Thirsty? Hungry?”
Micah moved faintly, turning his face toward her with effort.
His elegant features looked as refined as ever, but his eyes–empty, unfocused–made her

“Micah?” She rose in alarm. “I’ll get the doctor-”
Before she could move, his hand caught her wrist.

When she looked back, his eyes were shut again, his voice weak. “I’m fine. Just need to rest.”
A moment later, he opened his eyes again. The world was still dark.
His condition was worsening.
At first, Oriana didn’t notice. She only thought his mood was low because he was ill. “Alright. Rest, then.”
She sat beside him again. “Can you sit up? Try to eat a little.”
It was already four in the afternoon. He hadn’t eaten a thing—and considering how much energy he’d burned last night…
Just thinking about why he was sick made her extra nervous.
She helped him sit up and muttered softly, “You’re not allowed to overdo it like that again.”
Micah’s lips moved faintly. “Alright.”
She poured him a cup of warm water and placed it in his hand, then went to wet a towel.
When she came back, he had finished drinking and was feeling for the table to set the glass down.
But he placed it too close to the edge. The glass tilted, about to fall.
“Careful!”
Oriana rushed forward and caught it in time.
When she looked up, Micah’s face was rigid and pale, eyes filled with quiet panic.
“Sorry.”

To her, he had always been strong, capable of everything, as if the whole world was under his control.
Now, seeing him like this tugged painfully at her chest.
Was it because he was sick?
A bitter feeling crept into Oriana’s heart.
She took the towel and gently wiped his hands, her voice soft. “There’s nothing to apologize for. You’re sick, let me help. You don’t have to do everything yourself.”
His breath came unevenly. “I’m only causing you trouble.”
“What are you talking about? We’re husband and wife. There’s no ‘trouble‘ between us.”
Smiling lightly, she switched to a clean towel to wipe his face, her tone deliberately cheerful. “Honestly, I’m kind of happy. You’re always the one taking care of me, and now I finally get to return the favor.”
Micah could tell she was comforting him.
If only he could see her face right now, know whether she was smiling or hurting.
Micah’s hands curled into fists beneath the blanket.
“Alright, no more frowning. Take your medicine and rest. You’ll be fine soon.”
Noticing his clenched hand, Oriana caught it and brushed her nose against his knuckles until his grip loosened. Then she pressed his palm to her cheek.
“When you’re better, we still have to go shopping, remember?”
His palm felt as if it were burning. He wanted to pull away but couldn’t help tracing the curve of her face instead.
His voice came rough and low. “Alright.”
Oriana rang the bell for the maid to bring some light dishes.
News that Micah had woken spread quickly. Noah and Kenny rushed upstairs soon after.
Though very worried, they didn’t dare disturb him, though; they had come over several times but just peeked in quietly through the door.
