She had just cracked her eyes open when she heard Micah re–enter the room.

Micah chuckled softly.

Oriana was slowly eating the fondue when she heard him call her again.

“Honey.”

“Hmm?”

“If I needed you to take care of me like that from now on… would you… find me a burden?”

“Of course not.”

Oriana took a bite of the food, the rich flavor of sesame paste filling her taste buds.

Micah hesitated, then emphasized, “I mean, all the time. Forever.”

“It’s fine, taking care of you is nothing. Don’t you always take care of me anyway?”

Oriana finally looked up, her clear eyes holding a touch of helplessness.

“How did getting sick make you so conflicted? Where’s the determined, stubborn Micah Caldwell who steadfastly stayed by my side for all those years?”

Feigning grievance, she added, “If you give up this easily, how can I count on you for my future happiness?”
