Oriana felt her ears were tingling from his sweetness. She couldn’t help but ask, “Are you alone at home? Is Kieran not there? And Chubby can’t hear you, right?”

Behind his sunglasses, the warmth in Micah’s eyes vanished, replaced by a cold sweep over the hospital leaders in the room, all of whom were staring at him with expressions of utter disbelief. Only Board Director Yael, who knew Oriana’s identity, was still grinning cheerfully at him.

Micah stated calmly, “Yes, Kieran and Chubby are not here.”

He wasn’t lying.

Oriana breathed a small sigh of relief. “Good.”

Micah chuckled lightly, his tone feigning nonchalance. “Worried the review won’t be fair? How about-”

“I just needed to vent to you. I feel much better after saying it out loud,” Oriana interrupted him. “I’m fine. There are eleven judges. I believe the others will make a fair choice. The results aren’t out yet, anything could happen. Besides, getting Mr. Harris‘ approval for the draft is already satisfying enough for me.”

Micah made a sound of acknowledgment, his words carrying a deeper meaning. “They will be fair.”

“Mhmm.”

After Oriana hung up, Micah finally put his phone down.

Just then, Kieran knocked and entered, announcing clearly, “Alistair and Frederick were in Cormac’s office for ten minutes before leaving. Shortly after, their wives‘ accounts received transfers.”

Micah nodded, idly playing with a pen on the table, his long fingers spinning it in deft circles.

“It seems your so–called ‘fairness and integrity‘ has a couple of traitors.”

His icy voice, laced with boundless sarcasm, filled the entire conference room, echoing. Everyone present felt as if struck by a heavy blow, their limbs going numb.

Board Director Yael was sweating bullets. He immediately forced a smile. “An anomaly, just an anomaly with those two! Mr. Caldwell, rest assured, the remaining judges here are absolutely not for sale! They will definitely vote for Ms. Sterling!”

“Oh? So you think my wife needs backdoor deals?”
