“He refused!” Bramwell spread his hands helplessly. “Probably worried Luna might constrain his future ambitions.”
“That calculating bastard!” Kai now fully believed Grant was exploiting Luna.
Bramwell’s manipulation had taken root. Kai was now utterly convinced that Grant was a scoundrel who had been strategically exploiting the Sterling family from the very beginning.
“Give me your contact. I’ll find a way through my connections.”
Bramwell’s face lit up. “Luna’s future is in your hands now.”
“Don’t tell her,” Kai insisted. “I don’t want her feeling pressured.”
“Of course,” Bramwell agreed readily. “She’s too kind to accept help easily.”
Kai’s resolve solidified. He would secure Luna’s future, no matter the cost.
Bramwell made his exit, a satisfied smirk playing on his lips as he heard Kai already on the phone with his agent, pulling strings in the background.
A cold smirk twisted Bramwell’s lips as he stepped out.
You think you can outmaneuver me, Luna? You’re not nearly clever enough.
At dawn, the gentle spring sun poured through the curved floor–to–ceiling windows, bathing the pink–and–blue duvet in warm light. Oriana lay cocooned in lazy comfort, soaking in the morning rays.
On her phone, a group voice chat with Lily and Zara was buzzing. The two were chattering excitedly, dissecting yesterday’s scandal and mocking Luna’s spectacular backfire.
Lily said, “I saw the notice this morning. Mr. Flint has already removed Luna from the lab roster. Just overnight, that was fast.”
Zara continued, “Tch, serves her right! Got greedy, didn’t she? Should’ve been happy with third place, but no–had to try and steal the crown. Well, she stole her own reputation instead.”
“Ugh, I wish I hadn’t come back so early! Should’ve stayed to witness the drama myself!” Zara’s voice was thick with regret.
Oriana listened, chuckling softly. Just as she was about to respond, the bedroom door creaked

open. Familiar footsteps approached, and soon a wall of warmth pressed against her back.
She turned instinctively, only to have her chin lifted and his lips meet hers in a deep, awakening kiss.
Still groggy, Oriana gasped and pushed against his shoulders, trying to create space.
But then, the crisp, sweet taste of cherry burst on her tongue–he’d slipped her the fruit mid- kiss. Her resistance faltered for a second, and he seized the opportunity to deepen the embrace.
First thing in the morning, Oriana was thoroughly roused by a cherry–flavored kiss.
Micah pulled back slightly, a triumphant, warm smile gracing his handsome features. His low, gravelly voice tickled her ear like a teasing hook. “Good?”
Oriana’s face flamed scarlet. She quickly glanced at her phone–thankfully, it was on voice- only, and Zara was too engrossed in her lively recap with Lily to notice the quiet sounds from her end.
She swatted his shoulder, whispering, “You’re too bold! What if they heard?”
He raised an eyebrow, as if it were the most natural thing. “If they dare disturb us this early, they should be prepared for some couple’s affection.”
What kind of logic was that?
Oriana mumbled under her breath, then heard him ask again, “Was the cherry good?”
“Yes, crisp and sweet.”
“Grandpa just had them delivered. Don’t eat too many on an empty stomach. Take them to the hospital after breakfast.”
“Okay, I will.”
Micah took her hand and brought it to his lips, kissing it gently. He hadn’t been up long himself; overnight stubble pricked her palm, sending waves of tingling through her.
Oriana shrank back slightly. Micah rose and headed out to make breakfast.
“Oriana! You there? Did you fall back asleep?!” Zara called her name several times through the phone.
Oriana snapped back to attention and picked up the phone. “I’m up, just getting ready to wash
