Last night, Micah had been unusually restless, clinging to Oriana for a long time before finally falling asleep near dawn.
When Oriana woke up early that morning, Micah had just stepped out of the bathroom after finishing a phone call.
He came over to the bed, leaned down, and kissed her. “Do you have any free time in the next few days? I asked Kieran to schedule a fitting for your summit gown. You should go try it on.”
At the dinner party yesterday, Jett and the others had also brought up the upcoming summit, insisting Oriana must attend. They said it would be Micah’s big moment to shine.
Oriana smiled faintly. “Sure. Have Kieran send me the time, and I’ll see when I’m free.”
Micah kissed her again. “Okay. Are you tired? Why don’t you sleep a bit more?”
She was off work today, which was the only reason Micah had dared to be so unrestrained last night.
Oriana shot him a playful glare. “And whose fault do you think it is that I didn’t get enough sleep?”
Micah immediately admitted defeat. “My bad. I’ll bring breakfast in. You can eat something before going back to sleep.”
Oriana huffed softly. “Hmph. You’re not afraid I’ll mess up the sheets anymore?”
Micah chuckled, his voice teasingly suggestive. “Honey, if it’s you who messes them up, I don’t mind.”
His tone was so tender, so full of innuendo, that Oriana’s cheeks turned bright red.
She smacked him a few times in mock anger. Still laughing, Micah brought in a tray with milk and pumpkin bagels. When she finished eating, he cleaned everything up neatly.
“Get some more rest. There are still a few details to sort out for the summit, so I’ll head to the center. I’ll be back before lunch.”
Wrapped snugly in her blanket, Oriana murmured, “It’s fine. Go ahead. I might sleep until dinner.”
Micah opened his mouth as if to say something, then fell silent.

Finally, he smiled helplessly. “All right. I’ll come back this evening and let you sleep in peace.”
“Go on,” she said, burrowing deeper under the covers.
Micah stood there for a moment, watching the soft mound she made under the blanket, his expression gentle.
He quietly stepped out of the room and closed the door behind him.
Once he reached the kitchen, he called Kieran. “Get the car ready. We’re going to the hospital.”
It was time for his next injection.

Oriana had just finished breakfast. She wasn’t sleepy yet, so she lay in bed with the blanket pulled up to her chin, scrolling through her phone.
The weather was nice–sunny and clear. Knowing she might get too warm if she slept too long, Micah had turned the heater down before leaving.
The temperature was perfect for curling up under a comforter, and Oriana loved the sense of safety that came with being wrapped up like that.
She hadn’t been scrolling long when a video call popped up—it was from Zara.
Oriana’s face lit up as she answered. “Zara! You’re finally talking to me. I thought once you went to Kenorth, you’d—”
But the moment the call connected, Oriana saw the background behind Zara–and froze.
Oriana suddenly jerked upright, sitting up in bed in one sharp motion.
Zara wasn’t in Kenorth. She was standing right outside Oriana’s home.
“Zara!”
Oriana rushed to the door and opened it, only to be pulled into a tight hug.
Zara’s skin was icy cold, and Oriana quickly dragged her inside.
She poured a cup of hot coffee for Zara to warm her hands and fetched a light blanket to wrap around her.
“Zara, weren’t you supposed to be in Kenorth? What are you doing in Jindiwood?”

“Oriana?” Zara’s voice was weak and lifeless–gone was her usual bubbly energy.
Her head drooped low. “I’m so useless. I can’t do anything to help my family.”
